Naomi There was a glaring date discrepancy in the copy I read. While most of the action takes place in the summer of 1996. At the very end, in the letter from a guest the mountain resort, mentioning ghosts that have been haunting the area since 1982. This leads me to believe that when he originally wrote it, it must have been set in 1976, or so. Just wondered if anyone else noticed the same discrepancy.

Dan ************* SPOILER ***************

The special place that he helped her escape to in moments of pain was the memory of the hill she was on with her friend.

So in their death they both went there because it was where she was most happy. This 'hill' must be near the place where the Mountain resort is. So in their death, they exist together there on a different plain. The 'ghosts' are exactly that, themselves existing in that same area of reality on a different plain of existence. So really the year difference is irrelevant. At least that's how I interpreted it!

Amayzun didn't notice the date discrepancy .. the only thing that troubled me about this book was how easily the neighbors believed Audrey. I understand that the events that were taking place were weird already but its like 'oh, your nephew is doing this with his mind, ok, what now?' it just seems like someone in the group would have been a little reluctant to accept her explanation for the events.

Warren E. The date discrepancy was there on purpose. Read the Gunslinger series, all seven books, and it will make sense.

It bugged me, but at the same time, I knew it had a purpose and wasn't an editing oversight.
