Alright guys this is one of the many books that I put up the somewhat questionable disscussion on vampires for. This book, however was out after Twilight even though I've said there are those books out there that were out before Twilight I still feel like this counts since it's a vampire book. First off, I just wanted to say that I love this book and I can already tell it's going to be one of my new favorite series! Well, hopefully anyway. Some series seem to have a great first book but then it kind of dies off or at least none of the books following can top the first one. Ok I'm rambling so off to the review. This book I've read really recently so I remember this one a lot better than some of the others I reviewed many months after I read them. Ok, still rambling
Summery: Alright, this is a book about a vampire dhampirs named Rose. Okay, first let me explain some things so this doesn't get to confussing. There are three types of vampires. The Strigoi, the Moroi, and the Dhampirs. The Dhampirs are half vampire and half human but they can't have children with each other or humans only the Moroi. The Dmapirs are the protectors of the Moroi, these vampires are royalty. There are a great deal of them, they are normal vampires. They have to drink blood, only a little, and can't go into sunlight for very long. They are good, however, and don't believe in killing people and what you'd probably think of as a stereotypical vampire. Oh and they also live and die like normal humans. The Strigoi are the evil vampires. They all want to turn the Moroi into bad vampires like them. They’re dead and don’t die unless killed. They're just plain evil which is why the Moroi need the dhampirs to protect them. Okay that was long but neccessary. So now, for the plot. Rose and her best friend Lissa, a royal Moroi are taken back to St. Valdimir's Acadamy after two years of freedom. There comeback is news to everyone and sturs up a lot of trouble in some of their classmates. They weren't safe when they left and Rose feels as if they still aren't safe. Rose has to protect Lissa from not only the Strigoi but from everyone else and even from herself. That's all I can really say without giving it all away.
I LOVE this book. Sometimes I wonder how Twilight became this huge thing when there are vampire books like this out there. In my opinion this book was so much better! I loved all of the characters, even the ones that you hate. They all were very strong and each there own person. Rose, oh my gosh I love her! She has a confidence that I wish I had. There is a very thin line between a characters confidence and haughtiness. Seriously, I'm sure everyone's read a book at some point where they just want to throw a book across the room because the character is so arrogant and/or doesn't have any other qualities to smooth it out a bit. Rose lays just below this line perfectly, I really liked her. She was a very strong individual and new what was important to her. Lissa was also a character that I loved. She was the perfect balance to Rose. She was so sweet and kind. I could go on and on about every name mentioned in the book but basically the characters were very likeable! The plot was also really good. This book kept me on my toes at all times. There was so many twist and turns and while you can see some stuff coming other things kick you in the butt when you're really not expecting it. It's so original and unique. This is one of those books where I was like how do you even come up with stuff like this? I would definitely give this books a 5 out of 5! It was really good. One of the best books that I've read in a while and I even got the next book, in my already expensive B&N order. All in all this book was amazing with so many plots and twists but it fits together perfectly. I can't wait to start on the next one!
