V.C. Andrews discussion

It's a cute picture!
Sorry about the late reply.. I sometimes forget about this website lol.
And yeah, I'm buying and re-reading V.C. Andrews books.. I haven't read the Hudson series yet but it's next on my list!
I got into the series.. from the Flowers in the Attic series. My mom owned the hardbacks of the books and I got into them one day and couldn't put them down. I actually have those books, as I borrowed them a year ago and she hasn't asked for them back!
Anyways I'm glad you joined! My first member here. :)

Sorry it took me awhile to write back, I';ve just been super busy.
I did like the Hudson series. I've heard that V.C. Andrews actually past away & the larger books (I think) where actually written by her & the smaller ones by people who....I'm not sure...maybe worked for her? That's totally rumor though, I'm not sure about any of it. My cousin Danielle told me something like that years ago, she's the cousin I mentioned before. I do love the V.C. Andrews books though.
Have you read one that has a guy, Julian I want to say, who lives in a cottage? I can't remember which book or even series it is, but that one always sticks out in my mind. I love how the series follow people who are connected like mothers & daughters & that they sometimes go backward so you'll read about the daughter & then her mother.
I hope this finds you well & blessed,
Michele
P.S. Thanks for the pic comment. I like yours too, I see that your is a self-portrait also =-).

Troy sounded like quite the "hottie"

I love V.C. Andrews and her style of writing. I have read many of her books over the past few years. I haven't found any other authors as of yet that I enjoy reading as much that write close to the way she writes. I was beginning to think I was the only one that enjoyed these books. So glad I found this group.

I joined Good Read last night, and I'm still learning what is available on the site. This is the first group I've joined. :)
I've been reading and collecting VCA books for nearly 23 years now. I've read them all except for the last two books in the Gemini series and Gathering Clouds.
Regarding the earlier discussion about Ms. Andrews' death: There is a bit of controversy among fans about exactly how many books she completed prior to her death. The general consensus is that she completed seven: the first four novels in the Dollanganger series, My Sweet Audrina, Heaven, and Dark Angel. It's also the accepted belief that, at most, she wrote only half of Garden of Shadows before passing away.
She definitely had no hand in writing anything beyond the novels listed above, beyond story outlines. When news of her death and the admission of the use of a ghostwriter was finally released to fans, it was said that Ms. Andrews had a great many story outlines written out for planned future novels, and that was how they were able to continue publishing new novels under her name.

What is everyone reading right now?

My grandmother got me into VC Andrews, and now I can't get over her books! :)

Hi Monique,
You won't be disappointed in the V.C. Andrews books. I've read every single one of them and I'm going through withdrawal now trying to find another author like her. I'd have to say, out of the 65 books I've read of hers, my least favorite series was "Willow." I'll tell you to read it last or not at all because it's just not all that interesting. All of the other series are really good and keep you turning pages. I did really enjoy the Wildflowers series and the Shooting Stars series as well. Happy reading!

That's good to know about the Willow Series since it's next on my reading list. I actually thought the Hudson Series was a bit boring. I'm reading Runaways right now after finishing Orphans and so far so good!!

Haven't liked the last two sets of books and REALLY didn't like the vampire novel - lame.

I have been a Virginia Andrews fan since my early teens when I read my Mum's copy of Heaven. I couldn't stop after that and I have read her books several imes. I haven't picked one up for quite a while but when I see them on the book shelf I promise myself that I will pick them up again one day. I didn't finish Willow's series, I kind of lost interest but I will finish it at some point. It is so good to see other Andrews fans - her books seem to be regarded as a guilty secret by a lot of people. Well I stand not guilty :)

Yes, it does seem to be considered a guilty pleasure sort of reading, once you're past your teens; I suppose that started due to the "questionable content" of Flowers, and the early books.
I don't care for the ghost-written books, they lack much of what made the Flowers and Heaven series and Audrina memorable. I also wish the books didn't always have to deal with teenagers. That gets old, IMO.
Glad you found the group!

I see you like V.C. Andrews too =-), it's been few years since I've read any, but I love V.C. Andrews. My Grandmother was a librarian many years ago & got me into the V.C. Andrews books when..."
Dear Michele,
Hi, my name is Connie and I first read the Flower In The Attic when I was 14. It was such a hard book to read. To know that their own mohthers love of money over powered her love of her children. I loved the book that followed, Peals On the Wind. I would have prefered for Cathy and Christopher to some how stop having sexual feelings for one another. I was even more disgusted when she married Jullian. What was more intresting is how she explains how it was Bart Winslow that she carried a tourch for all this time. I least liked the If There Be Thorns. To confusing going back and forth from one brother to another. I wo loved the PRE-QUILL, Garden Of Shadows. It explained everything. How much more disgusting it was for Christopher and Corrine's romance. Not to mention how hyprocritacal Oliva became. She could have put an end to all of the lust and lies. She had her own money, and lots of it to. She could have told Alicia I am giving you $55,000. cash, it will be up to you on how you spend it. Then give her son back and have her leave once Melcome is at work. And then face him like she shoul, or maybe never mention that Alicia was pregnant, but tell him her body and her sons were discovered drowned. That would end the vicious. I know I have rattled on some, sorry if I overwhelmed you. I like your picture of your parrot, but then again I like parrots. Hope to hear form you.
Sincerely,
Connie

Sorry that no one has welcomed you. It seems the site has decided to stop sending me e-mails. :/

I asked the seller for the details, but never heard back???Weird...

""I am very glad you enjoyed the movie as well. :)
I thought about what you are saying as well but I have both copies and while they used different pictures on the covers, they were not made years apart. Only one movie was made. When CD came available Anchor Bay legally put the movie on CD, it's very well made. Top Ten Media's is obviously recorded directly from a bad VHS tape and even hacked up menu gives away the ending right when you put it in. The movie company wouldn't allow that. So it's like a cheap knock off, you seriously can not see most of the movie on this CD.
So I am trying to warn people to stay away from this one. I hope that helps and it's really nice to see someone else who likes the movie too. ""
Damn, I was hoping for another to watch : )

I got into the books ironically through the movie. My mom had it playing and I got hooked on it. Then in 9th grade I saw my friend with the book "Flowers in the Attic." I was so excited about it that after she finished, she let me borrow it. Then I borrowed the Doll, Casteel, and Cutler series (and My Sweet Audrina) from her until I started building my own collection. These were my staple in high school. I even got involved in roleplaying groups based off the books (so fun!).
Unfortunately it seems the newer books suck. I thought Daughters of Darkness was terrible. And the sequel to the Heavenstone one. I'm so mad at the ghost writer and the publisher and VCA's Estate. I won't cry if they stop writing the books. They are no longer enjoyable. I'm just going to stick with the older ones and maybe just check out all new ones from the library. But I will no longer buy any new ones unless they are actually better than the crap A. Neiderman's been throwing out at us.
Glad to find more VCA fans! :-D

I thought the DeBeers was okay, but you're right, Willow isn't that likable. I loved Linden and Grace though. Into the Woods was pretty good. The other ones were just "meh."

I bought the FITA film when i saw it in a shop, and was so excited, but when i wathced it i was very disappointed, i didn't like the ending and how it was so different to the books.

My name is Destiny. First read the heaven series somewhere between 4-5 grade and fell in love with VC. I have read every short story and book except for the elusive gathering clouds since then. I always make sure to get the new bbooks as soon as they come out. I've also watched both rain and flowers in the attic movies. I prefer the older 5 novel books to the newer two book ones but I can't stop reading them.

My favorite series is the Heaven series, then FITA and then Dawn SeriesCapturing Angels
I have a VC Andrews group over on Shelfari in case any of you are over there too. It's been kind of dormant lately though. I used to have a website called Paperflowers but haven't updated it since I lost my website maker.

Amazon usually has them. There is also a website for V. C. Andrews and it has links for buying the books. Just google it, I don't know what it is off hand (new computer, favs are gone). I have a kindle fire and I noticed amazon has a lot of them for kindle as well. My goal is to get the whole collection again on there so I can take them all with me everywhere. Love her books.

I see you like V.C. Andrews too =-), it's been few years since I've read any, but I love V.C. Andrews. My Grandmother was a librarian many years ago & got me into the V.C. Andrews books when I was probably in my mid-teens. I have a cousin who's very into V.C. Andrews too. The last that I bought/read where in the Hudson series (Rain, lightening strikes, ect...). I saw you had older ones in your books too (I.E., Heaven, Fallen Hearts & I think I saw Flowers in the attic too).
Anyway, I only joined goodreads a couple days ago & thought I'd join this group. I hope this e-mail finds you doing well & I'd love to chat w/ you.

P.S. The parrot pic probably looks funny, but, I like it =-). I was on my honeymoon in Jamaica 2 years ago, actually 2 years ago this last week.
