Michele (micheleb) | 2 comments Hi,

I see you like V.C. Andrews too =-), it's been few years since I've read any, but I love V.C. Andrews. My Grandmother was a librarian many years ago & got me into the V.C. Andrews books when I was probably in my mid-teens. I have a cousin who's very into V.C. Andrews too. The last that I bought/read where in the Hudson series (Rain, lightening strikes, ect...). I saw you had older ones in your books too (I.E., Heaven, Fallen Hearts & I think I saw Flowers in the attic too).

Anyway, I only joined goodreads a couple days ago & thought I'd join this group. I hope this e-mail finds you doing well & I'd love to chat w/ you.

~ Michele

P.S. The parrot pic probably looks funny, but, I like it =-). I was on my honeymoon in Jamaica 2 years ago, actually 2 years ago this last week.

It's a cute picture!

Sorry about the late reply.. I sometimes forget about this website lol.

And yeah, I'm buying and re-reading V.C. Andrews books.. I haven't read the Hudson series yet but it's next on my list!

I got into the series.. from the Flowers in the Attic series. My mom owned the hardbacks of the books and I got into them one day and couldn't put them down. I actually have those books, as I borrowed them a year ago and she hasn't asked for them back!

Anyways I'm glad you joined! My first member here. :)

Michele (micheleb) | 2 comments Hi,

Sorry it took me awhile to write back, I';ve just been super busy.

I did like the Hudson series. I've heard that V.C. Andrews actually past away & the larger books (I think) where actually written by her & the smaller ones by people who....I'm not sure...maybe worked for her? That's totally rumor though, I'm not sure about any of it. My cousin Danielle told me something like that years ago, she's the cousin I mentioned before. I do love the V.C. Andrews books though.

Have you read one that has a guy, Julian I want to say, who lives in a cottage? I can't remember which book or even series it is, but that one always sticks out in my mind. I love how the series follow people who are connected like mothers & daughters & that they sometimes go backward so you'll read about the daughter & then her mother.

I hope this finds you well & blessed,

Michele

P.S. Thanks for the pic comment. I like yours too, I see that your is a self-portrait also =-).

Jenna | 1 comments I'm glad to find some people who love V.C. Andrews books as well. I think I have read every single series there is to read. To answer the question about which series has the guy living in the cottage..I believe it is Troy that lives there in the Casteel series.... I think Gates of Paradise is the first one. Hopefully that helps, talk you guys soon.
Jenna

message 5: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer I also got into V.C. Andrews in my early teens, so I got to read most of them as they came out...the Flowers in the attic series was alreadly complete and the Heaven series had just started. V.C. Andrews did die, i think she completed the Dawn Series on her own and since then family and people who worked for her have picked up her name and written in her style. It is explained in most of the books after Dawn. I haven't read much of the ones that she didn't actually have a hand in writing....but i loved her first 4 series and my sweet audrina. I don't know alot of people who have read her books, so it's cool to see I am not the only one here. :)

message 6: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer it is troy who lived in cottage in the casteel series, but Heaven is the book that started it all. Is Gates of paradise the prequel that always came out 5th in the series?

Troy sounded like quite the "hottie"

message 7: by Alanna (new)

Alanna (alannajean18) | 2 comments Mod
Gates of Paradise is the 4th one. The 5th one (which is the prequel) is Web of Dreams.

Catherine | 1 comments hey everyone. I just joined this group. I have read all the books. Once I first started Flowers in the Attic, I couldnt stop and had to finish the rest. I was describing the Family to my husband and he was like ' whattt ' lol. Hes not a book reader at all.

Pamela (parias1126) | 1 comments Hi all!

I love V.C. Andrews and her style of writing. I have read many of her books over the past few years. I haven't found any other authors as of yet that I enjoy reading as much that write close to the way she writes. I was beginning to think I was the only one that enjoyed these books. So glad I found this group.

The Geeky Bibliophile (tgbreviews) Hello!

I joined Good Read last night, and I'm still learning what is available on the site. This is the first group I've joined. :)

I've been reading and collecting VCA books for nearly 23 years now. I've read them all except for the last two books in the Gemini series and Gathering Clouds.

Regarding the earlier discussion about Ms. Andrews' death: There is a bit of controversy among fans about exactly how many books she completed prior to her death. The general consensus is that she completed seven: the first four novels in the Dollanganger series, My Sweet Audrina, Heaven, and Dark Angel. It's also the accepted belief that, at most, she wrote only half of Garden of Shadows before passing away.

She definitely had no hand in writing anything beyond the novels listed above, beyond story outlines. When news of her death and the admission of the use of a ghostwriter was finally released to fans, it was said that Ms. Andrews had a great many story outlines written out for planned future novels, and that was how they were able to continue publishing new novels under her name.

Alicia Reneau | 1 comments I just joined the goodreads group. So far I like that I am able to track what I have read, see title of books I have forgetten that I have wanted to read, etc..

What is everyone reading right now?

message 12: by Erin (new)

Erin H Hey everyone!! I just joined goodreads and I thought this would be a great group to join since VC Andrews is my favorite author!! I just finished reading The Eye of the Storm and plan on starting The End of the Rainbow!! My favorite series though has to be the Landry series I love the character of Ruby!!

message 13: by Monique (new)

Monique Gonzalez (monikirose) Hi everyone! I guess you can say I'm sorta new to VC Andrews. I've read the Dollanganger Series, of course, and the Orphans. And as for the pretty recent ones, I've read the Delia series and Secrets. I just recently bought the Wildflowers and Shooting Stars omnibus editions, so I hope to get into those soon.

My grandmother got me into VC Andrews, and now I can't get over her books! :)

Hi Monique,
You won't be disappointed in the V.C. Andrews books. I've read every single one of them and I'm going through withdrawal now trying to find another author like her. I'd have to say, out of the 65 books I've read of hers, my least favorite series was "Willow." I'll tell you to read it last or not at all because it's just not all that interesting. All of the other series are really good and keep you turning pages. I did really enjoy the Wildflowers series and the Shooting Stars series as well. Happy reading!

That's good to know about the Willow Series since it's next on my reading list. I actually thought the Hudson Series was a bit boring. I'm reading Runaways right now after finishing Orphans and so far so good!!

message 16: by Kim (new)

Kim Smiley (klaws32) Yeah, I'd definitely skip that one for now. I really liked the Cutler series, as well as the Landry and Casteel series as well. You can't go wrong with any of those. Enjoy!

Haven't liked the last two sets of books and REALLY didn't like the vampire novel - lame.

message 18: by Loraine (new)

Loraine (blueraine) Hello,
I have been a Virginia Andrews fan since my early teens when I read my Mum's copy of Heaven. I couldn't stop after that and I have read her books several imes. I haven't picked one up for quite a while but when I see them on the book shelf I promise myself that I will pick them up again one day. I didn't finish Willow's series, I kind of lost interest but I will finish it at some point. It is so good to see other Andrews fans - her books seem to be regarded as a guilty secret by a lot of people. Well I stand not guilty :)

message 19: by Christina (new)

Christina | 4 comments Welcome, Loraine!

Yes, it does seem to be considered a guilty pleasure sort of reading, once you're past your teens; I suppose that started due to the "questionable content" of Flowers, and the early books.

I don't care for the ghost-written books, they lack much of what made the Flowers and Heaven series and Audrina memorable. I also wish the books didn't always have to deal with teenagers. That gets old, IMO.

Glad you found the group!

Donna (donnaenden) | 6 comments Nice to meet everyone. I have been reading V.C. Andrews books since I was a teenager in the 80's. I lost track of the books for while and just recentley started reading the books again I think the last series I read before losing track for years was the orphans and runaway series (I believe thats what it was called). There are still quite a few series I have yet to finish. When I did start reading them again I have read the Rain series and daughter of darkness(which I hated) and the Delia series.

message 23: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (danielleeyypop) Hi everyone! I LOVE V.C. Andrews books, obviously why I joined this group. My mom had some of her books in her collection and when I was in my pre-teen years I borrowed them and fell in love with them. I've been reading and re-reading them ever since. Right now I'm reading Rain, and it's such an emotional story so far.

Dear Michele,

Hi, my name is Connie and I first read the Flower In The Attic when I was 14. It was such a hard book to read. To know that their own mohthers love of money over powered her love of her children. I loved the book that followed, Peals On the Wind. I would have prefered for Cathy and Christopher to some how stop having sexual feelings for one another. I was even more disgusted when she married Jullian. What was more intresting is how she explains how it was Bart Winslow that she carried a tourch for all this time. I least liked the If There Be Thorns. To confusing going back and forth from one brother to another. I wo loved the PRE-QUILL, Garden Of Shadows. It explained everything. How much more disgusting it was for Christopher and Corrine's romance. Not to mention how hyprocritacal Oliva became. She could have put an end to all of the lust and lies. She had her own money, and lots of it to. She could have told Alicia I am giving you $55,000. cash, it will be up to you on how you spend it. Then give her son back and have her leave once Melcome is at work. And then face him like she shoul, or maybe never mention that Alicia was pregnant, but tell him her body and her sons were discovered drowned. That would end the vicious. I know I have rattled on some, sorry if I overwhelmed you. I like your picture of your parrot, but then again I like parrots. Hope to hear form you.

Sincerely,

Connie

Connie J.estrada | 3 comments Hi all you V.C Andrew ardent readers, I had a question and I am hoping all you die harders can help me. All of you whom have read the Casteel series back in the 80's, if you remember "Heaven" is holding the "Portrait Bride Doll" that belonged to her mother Leigh. The dolls hair was black. On the in pre-quill "WEB OF DREAMS" Leigh is also holding the portrait doll Angel and the "dolls" hair is blonde, if you all remember it is Leigh's hair that was used after she got her hair cut. Now can anyone tell me why if both dolls where one and the same, then why would the hair be a different color? This has bothered me since forever, since I had read it the first time around. I hope someone can help, take care, and thanks.

message 30: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (brweldozer) | 6 comments Hi, I just read the first three of the Dollanger series. I came across a dvd being sold on ebay that had different actors playing the four children in FITA, but have since been unable to find anything of the web about there being another movie or even made for tv movie. Does anyone know of another?

message 31: by Kim (new)

Kim Smiley (klaws32) The only Flowers in the Attic movie I know of has Kristie Swanson playing the oldest daughter. Other than that, I'm not aware of any other movie regarding that series of books.

message 32: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (brweldozer) | 6 comments That was what I thought too. But I saw this cover on ebay : http://www.ebay.com/itm/Flowers-in-th...

I asked the seller for the details, but never heard back???Weird...

message 33: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (brweldozer) | 6 comments Ok, did an image search and it turns out that cover is the same movie....

""I am very glad you enjoyed the movie as well. :)
I thought about what you are saying as well but I have both copies and while they used different pictures on the covers, they were not made years apart. Only one movie was made. When CD came available Anchor Bay legally put the movie on CD, it's very well made. Top Ten Media's is obviously recorded directly from a bad VHS tape and even hacked up menu gives away the ending right when you put it in. The movie company wouldn't allow that. So it's like a cheap knock off, you seriously can not see most of the movie on this CD.

So I am trying to warn people to stay away from this one. I hope that helps and it's really nice to see someone else who likes the movie too. ""

Damn, I was hoping for another to watch : )

message 34: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Rhodes Hey everyone. I'm Jenny and I've been collecting V.C. Andrews books since I was 12. My mom got me hooked when she offered me some of her old books. Since then I've been adding my own collection. Look forward to meeting new people and having discussions.

message 35: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (brweldozer) | 6 comments Jenny, I have only read the Dollanger series (on book4 now). I fell in love with them. Was there another series that you thought was just as good as the Dollanger one?

message 36: by Kim (new)

Kim Smiley (klaws32) Secrets in the Attic/Secrets in the Shadows is a 2 book series that was really good. It's a relatively new one compared to the Flowers in the Attic series. Castee, Cutler, or Landry series you can't go wrong with either. I've enjoyed every Andrews series EXCEPT DeBeers. Steer clear, the main character isn't even likeable and the books are very boring.

message 37: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Rhodes Along with Kim I thought the Cutler series was awesome and the Logan series is ok but is a little slow in some parts of the books. I also really liked the Wildflowers series and Hudson series was good too.

message 38: by Jen (new)

Jen (jncahill) | 39 comments The parrot pic is adorable.

I got into the books ironically through the movie. My mom had it playing and I got hooked on it. Then in 9th grade I saw my friend with the book "Flowers in the Attic." I was so excited about it that after she finished, she let me borrow it. Then I borrowed the Doll, Casteel, and Cutler series (and My Sweet Audrina) from her until I started building my own collection. These were my staple in high school. I even got involved in roleplaying groups based off the books (so fun!).

Unfortunately it seems the newer books suck. I thought Daughters of Darkness was terrible. And the sequel to the Heavenstone one. I'm so mad at the ghost writer and the publisher and VCA's Estate. I won't cry if they stop writing the books. They are no longer enjoyable. I'm just going to stick with the older ones and maybe just check out all new ones from the library. But I will no longer buy any new ones unless they are actually better than the crap A. Neiderman's been throwing out at us.

Glad to find more VCA fans! :-D

I thought the DeBeers was okay, but you're right, Willow isn't that likable. I loved Linden and Grace though. Into the Woods was pretty good. The other ones were just "meh."

message 40: by Erin (new)

Erin H The DeBeers series wasn't the best but I liked it better than Rain's books.

Leanne (reading_with_leanne) | 3 comments I have been reading Virginia Andrews books since i was 11/12, and it was my nan who got me hooked, she gave me all of her FITA and Heaven Series as well as My Sweet Audrina. I really loved all the original books, but im not to keen on the new ones that have been written over the last 5 years or so.
I bought the FITA film when i saw it in a shop, and was so excited, but when i wathced it i was very disappointed, i didn't like the ending and how it was so different to the books.

message 42: by Jen (new)

Jen (jncahill) | 39 comments ^ Aw, how nice! :-D Yeah, I watched the movie first, loved it, then became disappointed in the movie after watching the books. They ruined a chance for a sequel or anything. I still love the movie, but I'm not thrilled with the ending when compared to the books.

Destiny | 10 comments Hi,
My name is Destiny. First read the heaven series somewhere between 4-5 grade and fell in love with VC. I have read every short story and book except for the elusive gathering clouds since then. I always make sure to get the new bbooks as soon as they come out. I've also watched both rain and flowers in the attic movies. I prefer the older 5 novel books to the newer two book ones but I can't stop reading them.

Amazon usually has them. There is also a website for V. C. Andrews and it has links for buying the books. Just google it, I don't know what it is off hand (new computer, favs are gone). I have a kindle fire and I noticed amazon has a lot of them for kindle as well. My goal is to get the whole collection again on there so I can take them all with me everywhere. Love her books.

I have every single book sitting proudly on my shelf. It has taken me years to acquire the collection.
