Just started re-reading this one :-)
Body Double (Jane Rizzoli & Maura Isles, #4) by Tess Gerritsen
Body Double by Tess Gerritsen

One of my goodreads friends won't read Tess Gerritsen anymore because of this book - she had a bad Body Double experience. She didn't like the use of twins, but I think it's interesting :-)

Raíla (railasoares) | 22 comments Wow... I don't want to hear anything more about it before I read it. I mean, I want everything to be a surprise.

"If you knew Dr. O'Donnell, you'd be disturbed too."

The isolated house and the bones kinda remind me of The Bone Garden (2007) and these two Gerritsen thrillers bring to mind this quote:

"The corpse you planted last year in your garden,
Has it begun to sprout? Will it bloom this year?"
- T. S. Eliot,The Waste Land

The Bone Garden by Tess Gerritsen The Waste Land by T.S. Eliot

I'm liking Body Double more than The Sinner. Like in The Sinner, we're learning more about Maura. The first two books were mostly about Jane.

Tess lives in Maine - so this description isn't surprising :-)

"She had never been to Maine. She knew it only as a backdrop in the L.L. Bean Catalogue, where tanned men and women wore parkas and hiking boots while, at their feet, golden retrievers lolled on the grass. In the world of L.L. Bean, Maine was the land of forests and misty shores, a mythical place too beautiful to exist except as a hope, a dream."
-Body Double, Chapter 10

"In her face, her eyes, Maura wore the proof of her parentage. In her veins flowed the blood of murderers. But evil was not hereditary. Though she might carry its potential in her genes, so too did every child ever born. In this, I am no different. We are all descended from monsters."
-Body Double, Chapter 33 (the last chapter)

Despicable. She is an evil woman, but one of those characters that is essential because you love to hate her.

Beautiful quote Dustin. Definitely valid. I love The Bone Garden. It was the first of Tess's books I read, and got me hooked right away. I think it is wonderful how Tess uses little similarities throughout all the books, kind of like reminders of the past, or precursors for the future.

How do you like the portrayl of Mauras father in the tv series? And the non-mention of who indeed Mauras mother is. Would we like to know more about both or continue in secrecy?

I haven't actually watched a single episode yet, but I wouldn't mind learning more about her parents - what was in the books was interesting.

Ahh well get on it! haha. It's on the web lol. The show doesnt really say anything about her mother, but what they do doesnt coincide. WHich book do they mention her father...im probably forgetting, I know they hit on the mother in Memphisto Club.

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 568 comments Mod
I don't know that Maura's father was mentioned - if he was, it was only briefly, but I thought the background on what's her name (Maura's mother) was interesting so I wouldn't mind learning about the father also.

Well since you havent watched I wont tell you what they say on the show..but they do paint Maura's mother in a white light , persay on the show..when really she was a monster. Instead on the show they paint hte dad as the bad guy.

Well, that's interesting. She was a really great character in the book. I'll have to let you know what I think after I've watched the show a little, but I always wonder why they have to change things so much instead of going more "by the book" so to speak :-) For instance, I'm a big fan of The Da Vinci Code and Angel's and Demons - loved the book but the changes made in film made absolutely no sense to me and ruined the power of the stories.

Here's a book that you might want to check out. The author sent me & others a free copy. I haven't finished the book but what I've read is pretty good:
No Greater SacrificeNo Greater Sacrifice
It's a little different from Dan Brown but an interesting mystery/adventure about Archeology. You can contact the author on goodreads also. If you let him know you review books/have a blog, and are a friend of mine, he might even send you a copy :-)

Body Double has been chosen as our October 2011 Group Read. Please feel free to post here with any thoughts, questions, favorite passages etc. As a courtesy, please use spoilers as needed.

Marla, how long did you want this title featured? I currently have it featured through the month of October but we can extend it if you want :-)

I just bought a hardcover copy of Body Double from the thrift store and I'm borrowing an audiobook of Body Double from the library. Looking forward to re-reading this soon :-)

Brenda Just received my copy in the mail:) Perfect timing!

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 568 comments Mod
We're actually getting a good response so far from the invite. As of right now 13 people have responded, 7 no's, 4 yes's and 2 maybe's. That's very good in my opinion. Thanks everyone.

Avid Series Reader (msbooties) I started listening to the audiobook last night. What a dramatic first chapter - returning home from Paris to find her double in a crime scene at her own home. The powerful startup will require lots of exciting scenes to keep the momentum. In the prologue, I think the little dog struggling to keep up provided subtle foreshadowing.

Curlyhair | 20 comments I would love to join you's in this group read, but I've only just read - The Apprentice, so I'm a couple of books behind this one. I will get to it one of these days though.

I'd like to extend this group read through December since our next group read won't be until January. I still plan to re-read it sometime in 2011. Anyone else going to read it during the next two months?

Brenda I didn't get a chance in October Dustin, so yes, that would be good:)

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 568 comments Mod
Fantastic!

Avid Series Reader (msbooties) I'm enjoying the story very much, love the forensic detail. I've reached the part where detectives figure out the 'business' behind the murders. Ooh...creepy thought! I'm glad more readers will join in later this month or next.

Brenda I'm reading it now, and thoroughly enjoying it:)

Avid Series Reader (msbooties) I completed the audiobook tonight, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are both strong female role models, tough professionals yet kind-hearted and sympathetic. I thought Rick Ballard was "disposed of" rather abruptly, which surprised me since I thought he and Maura had started a friendship that might continue in the series. I also wonder, will Maura ever visit her mother again?

I look forward to continuing the series with #5: Vanish, which won the Nero, Edgar and Macavity awards.

I'm about halfway through - I've forgotten how good this book is :-)

Brenda Finished it on the 5th November....my review here http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Dustin the wind Crazy little brown owl (dustpancrazy) | 568 comments Mod
This book still is similar to The Bone Garden with the history of these old houses and the secrets found on the property.

I am getting closer to the end now and finally learned how the opening scene fits into the story :-)

Emily (emfrandsen) | 3 comments Just started reading this book after finishing The Sinner! I didn't read all the reviews but 4 chapters in and I'm loving it. I wasn't sure how to take Jane being pregnant since that's not how she is portrayed in the TV series. I'm anxious to see how Jane and Gabriel make it with a baby as well as Jane's character handling the duty as a detective and a mom.
