Harvest by Tess Gerritsen
Harvest by Tess Gerritsen

Feel free to discuss the book here. Please use *Spoiler Alerts* when needed. I've ordered the audiobook through the library so hope to join the discussion soon :-)

Renee (rays_reeds) This book is nothing like Ice Cold. Ice Cold starts slow and relaxing, this book hits the ground running! Could do without all of the foul language in the first few chapters - but I guess that is what sells the book. Having completed courses for medical transcribing and medical coding I completely understand what is going on with the patients. Will the resident have the knowledge/courage to stand alone or will she give into the pressures of the prestige around her????

Renee (rays_reeds) WOW! This book moves fast - the characters are very believable with the exception of Voss. Abby is in over her head, yet she has not learned who to trust or not trust. Chapter 1 was completely unrelated to the story until I hit chapter 7 where this part of the story pick ups. Funny typo -(Abby) "She opened Mary's chest and wrote..."

Is that Typo in chapter 7? I plan to start Harvest later this week :-) Audiobook is in transit to my library branch from another library.

Renee (rays_reeds) No, it is in chapter 6. Abby is examining a cancer patient and opens the chart not chest. Too funny!

"She opened Mary's chest and wrote:...."
That is too funny! :-) I have a printed copy that I got from the library but I'm waiting for the audiobook before I start. I had to look this up though :-)

I'm now listening to this on Audiobook from the library. The discs are so worn that some of the writing is gone and some tracks have to be skipped but I'm enjoying the story and I really like the character of Abby - again, I can't help being reminded of Abby Lockhart and ER :-)

Renee (rays_reeds) I can see that. Still frustrated by the loose ends of the boys - I know the outcome of the boys it just seems like she was grasping straws to pull them in. The story goes great without the snippets about the boys.

I do see what you mean about the boys - their story just kinda shows up every once in a while in the middle of Abby's story :-)

I enjoyed Harvest. I gave it 5 stars. I listened on audiobook, so if I was reading it, I might have given it 4 stars but I found the narrative entertaining, even though I had to skip some tracks because my library discs were damaged.

My favorite quote - from Chapter 17

"God, it's like reality's completely shifted on me. I used to think I was standing on such solid ground. If I wanted something badly enough, I just worked like hell for it. Now I can't decide what to do, which move to make. All the things I counted on aren't there for me anymore."

Dean Koontz's Your Heart Belongs to Me
strikes a similar chord, but I think Gerritsen's book is better written. I only gave Koontz's book 2 stars, so needless to say I didn't like it but I'm willing to give it a second chance some day :-)

Renee (rays_reeds) I began Bloodstream tonight. The first chapter is very dramatic then the second chapter is quite humorous. Similar to Ice Cold. I like how she uses humor in her story line. In this one a hunter shoots himself in the foot - an annual event for him - but refused to go to the doctor because he cannot afford to pay.

I've created a Bloodstream discussion thread - feel free to comment as or after you read the book :-) http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/3...

Sheila (sheilaj) I just finished Harvest - Wow!

This was one fantastic medical thriller. It reminded me a lot of Robin Cook's Coma which is what the title Harvest refers to. I honestly couldn't put this book down. I am doing several goodreads challenges and when I got this book from the library and it was 650 pages in large print version I groaned because of the length. But by about page 200 I literally couldn't put it down. I worked in a hospital for 35 years so I tend to like medical drama books and tv so I am probably preprogrammed to like it. Anyway what a great book this was. I give Harvest ★★★★★'s

Renee why didn't you think Voss was believable. In my career as a respiratory therapist I met many controlling family members that wouldn't hesitate to report you and try to get you fired or somehow think they were the only patients in the place and demand special attention. Most people were very nice but there were a few over the years.

Did you folks think there was ever resolution as to who put the guts in Abby's car or tried to get all the lawsuits against her? I just finished it and I don't think it ever said what the deal was.

I thought it was similar to Robin Cook's writing style also. I stopped reading Robin Cook back in 2006 but I might pick him up again sometime. Glad you enjoyed the book Sheila :-) My favorite stand-alone by Tess is The Bone Garden, hope you get to check that one out sometime.

Sheila (sheilaj) I've already read the Bone Garden Dustin and liked it a lot.

Bone garden was my first read, for a paper in high school..or 1st year college cant remember..24 n memorys gone haha...its what hooked me. I love crime, mixed with a bit of medical, and thrills. Im not a person who wants to work in the medical field, but they thought process of serial killers and crime and law enforcement is fascinating.

I feel horrible when i find typos anywhere. Worst one wassssss...in this book I was reading where the character was Juanita..a nurse..and they slipped up and said Felicia in the last paragraph, now i know there was no Felicia in the story...unfortunately that was one of my reviews that probably had the publishing company going "oh my"

Sheila (sheilaj) Ah yes, one of my favorite Tess standalones! I may just have to reread this one.

I have been rereading the Rizzoli and Isles series in another GR group and just finished Vanish. I can't believe how much I had forgotten from the first reads.
