Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome to the group!

Hope ya'll enjoy it here and find some interesting reads.

I realized recently that I read more serials than stand-alones. Not necessarily on purpose though. It's great when you find characters you love or love to hate and get to follow them along on their, hopefully long, journey. :)

++If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Amber (crazyaboutbooks) | 499 comments Thanks Steph for the add and the welcome. I to have found that I am in the middle of a ton of series myself and for some odd reason keep looking for more. LOL I'm sick I know but glad to know I'm not the only one with the same disease :D

message 3: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Symko (csymko) | 26 comments Thanks Steph for the welcome to the group. I am also reading quite a few series right now. I actually went to the library and got 3 books today and have 3 here at home to read also plus we had a book fair at work today and I bought 2 books. So don't ever feel lonely about having too many books to read...I love to read though and don't mind having that as a disease!

message 4: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 12, 2010 05:48PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome, Amber & Cheryl! You are not alone, that's for sure!

I continue hunting for new series, like you, even though my list of "hurry-up-and-finish" series doesn't get much smaller. I did create a self-challenge for myself at the beginning of this year to try to read 1 book for an already (as of 1/1/10) on-going series each week. So far, that's been working for me. Doesn't stop me from reading new ones though, which I also have a challenge for ... New2Me series - one book a week! LOL!!! What can I say? I'm a series-whore and I'm not ashamed to admit it! When you fall in love with characters, it's all the better when you get to keep following them, instead of saying good-bye after only 1 book. :)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) Hello Ladies! Glad my friend LooLoo introduced me to this group, I thought I was the only one who had this problem!:):) Glad to know I'm in good company!:)

I keep saying I'm not going to start any new series or by any new books as I have tons of each already, but it just never happens!:)

message 6: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 12, 2010 05:47PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome, Suz and thanks to LooLoo for inviting you. You are definitely NOT alone! Fellow series addicts unite!

Susan (Suz) (sharney) Thanks Steph! LOL, LOL

message 8: by Alisha (new)

Alisha (schalazeal) | 13 comments Woo hoo! Total series addict. I've found that I'll even seek out series that have at least a handful of books already out before reading the first... there's nothing more painful than finding an awesome book and then finding out you've got a year-plus wait for the next awesome installment! ^___^

message 9: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 12, 2010 05:47PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome Alisha!

Broken record, that's me, but I'm in the same boat with ya. *Row, Row, Row your boat ....*

Kinda like finding a series a bit late in the game. It gives me a chance to read so many of them one right after the other, or at a slower pace, if need-be. At least it's on my terms and not the publishers. :) It also helps temporarily patch the gap waiting for the next release of your all-time-favorite been-with-from-the-start series.

message 10: by Bookwatcher (last edited Jun 16, 2010 10:06PM) (new)

Bookwatcher (bookwatcher) Hello girls. .
My name is Camila, and I'm addicted to series (first step to the cure is admit the sickness... so I'm admitting)

Well, you named one serie and I'll say "yes, I read/started it". I'm always promising myself that the serie I'm reading will be the last... but no, always searching and finding another.
For example: last week start another Once Bitten, Twice Shy (Jaz Parks, #1) by Jennifer Rardin and now I'm at the 4# ...
help me friends... I can't leave without a serie! Everything started with Fantasy Lover (Dark-Hunter, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon . She's the one I should blame? After the Dark Hunter serie I start to search for others... and never stop... I'm hopeless

message 11: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 12, 2010 05:47PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome Bookwatcher! You've come to the right place and are definitely not alone! :)

Bookwatcher (bookwatcher) Steph wrote: "Welcome, Bookwatcher! You've come to the right place and are definitely not alone! :)"

thanks. We, the addicts to serie, must unite ours forces [image error] to try the cure... but I'm really hopeless [image error]... Sherrilyn Kenyon, JD Ward, Jennifer Rardin, Jacquelyn Frank etc etc... they are the ones to blame! Should exist some law to punish writers that create addicting series!

message 13: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) Thanks Steph, I am definitely happy to be here! It'll be good to hear about a series, especially if I can read the first, rather than starting with the 4th, as I usually end up doing!

BTW

Does anyone remember reading a PNR series where the protagonists are prehistoric animals? There's a t-rex, a mammoth shark, a raptor, etc. They fight an entity called Zero (yeah, really). I read these books, and now can't remember the names or the author. *sigh* senile dementia for sure!

message 14: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) I thought I saw White Cat (Curse Workers, #1) by Holly Black in one of the threads, anyone remember where? I loved that book, and am wondering if there will be more?

Nina Bangs maybe? Eternal Pleasure & Eternal Craving (Gods of Night)

message 16: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 12, 2010 05:46PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome Marisella! You'll find TONS of new reads here. We're happy to have you.

"White Cat" was listed in the new release threads. You probably saw it there. And, Red Glove, book 2, is due out 06 Jun 2011. :)

message 17: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) ooooh good to hear about red glove. sadly, it's so far away! I'll look at those nina bangs books (wouldn't it be kind of fun to have BANG as your last name :) For a few days at least

message 18: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) Yes! see how smart you are :) the bangs books are the ones I was thinking of. now to find the rest

message 20: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) I know this is out there, but does anyone watch the "avatar, the last airbender" series? I was watching the final episodes last night with my kids, and there are MOCKINGJAYS! flying around! really. I thought that was cool :)

Has anyone read the Black Jewels or Ephemera series by Anne Bishop? Starting with Daughter of the Blood (The Black Jewels, #1) by Anne Bishop , and also Sebastian (Ephemera, #1) by Anne Bishop She's a wonderful author, but I can't find any info about whether or not she's got more coming. Anyone know?

message 21: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Marisella, I've read the Black Jewels trilogy (loved it -6 stars!) but not the ones that follow in that series. I have Sebastian but I haven't read it yet. I believe the author is still writing books in the BJ series (I think there're about 9) but I don't know about the other one.

message 22: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments I haven't read either, Marisella.

Can you help me??

message 24: by Anna (new)

Anna (stregamari) (from the group) Hi Christine! um, sorry, I think in this case it would be like the blind leading the blind, we're all struggling with our own addictions :)

Sharon (sstogner1) | 62 comments I am militant about reading a whole series before moving on to the next. But, if the next book in a series I have already read comes out (like when Magic Bleeds came out) I will read it first chance I get.

message 30: by Donna (new)

Donna Hi! I'm Donna and I joined Goodreads about 6 weeks ago. It took me until now to find this group and I'm glad I did. It's nice to not be alone... ;)

I answered a thread on series for another group and realized I have about 30 series (off the top of my head - there may be more) going right now! Of course I'm not counting ones where I've either read the entire series already or series where I'm waiting for the next book to be published. 30 series are ones where I have multiple books to read just to catch up!!!

I'm more than a little afraid you guys are going to be adding to my to-read list! Oh, well. At least we're all kindred spirits!!!

message 31: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 12, 2010 05:45PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome Sharon & Donna! Great to have you here. We will MOST DEFINITELY be adding to your TBR lists! It's going to be hard to avoid it here, but you are right, we are all kindred spirits, all addicted to series and lovin' it. :)

message 32: by Aske (new)

Aske | 119 comments Well, I'm new to this website and don't really know what to do, but I guess over time that will change. Anyway I LOVE to read on going books because I really like how the story continues, especially if it's a great one! I stick to a lot of PNR but am open to any other suggestions.

**Warning: I can and will read through at least 1-2 books a day and will finish series within days or weeks depending on my free time and how long the series is**

message 33: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Hey guys...I'm Sashana and I'm new. I never really realized that I was a series addict before I read this post! I'm reading many different series right now, but they're new so I have to wait for the rest to be release :(...It sucks when you have to wait for a book that you love to come out. But never fear, I've found a new series by Morgan Kingsley and I'm on book two at the moment. I also have about 5 different series that I really should finish, but I'm always looking for something new. I really do have a problem.

message 34: by Steph, Serious series addict (last edited Jul 12, 2010 05:45PM) (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments Welcome Aske and Sashana! (I know, I've said that like three times now, Sashana, but seriously ... WELCOME! hehe)

Aske, when you say you don't really know what to do, do you mean in this group? or on GoodReads in general? If it's referring to the group, you can check out the "What now?" thread and group's site map here and it will help you get to know the group a bit better.

Everyone's welcome, so jump in on any thread in any folder at any time. :) Have fun and find some great new series to add to your TBR stack!

I've always loved to read series. I look forward to participating in the series madness.

Erin here...

Hello all!

I hail from British Columbia and I enjoy reading, when I was younger I ate up vampire and witch novels like they were going out of style. For a long time I was under the impression that these novels were only from Teens... until a friend untroduced me to Women of the Otherworld series, by suggesting I read; Bitten and from there I found Lara Adrian's Midnigt Breed series and fell in love with Lucan and the likes in Kiss of Midnight.

But now I have a problem, I have read through those books and I have to wait for the new releases I am looking for something to fill that gap! :o! And it looks like here is the place.

Aske, first place to start with GoodReads in general would be to try to enter as many of the books you've read as you can remember. Try to rate them and list your "read on" date. Then, update as you read more. You can edit your bookshelves just about any way you want. Just take a look at other GoodReaders' shelves and you'll get some idea of what I mean. Organize your books in whatever way works best for you.

There are 100s of groups you can join to chat about just about anything under the sun (and probably including the sun ... hehe). Most groups are "public" which means anyone can join. Some are "private" and either not accepting new members or you must either be invited or approved by the moderators/members.

I've created a folder in this group called "Around GoodReads". You might find some helpful tips and hints there as well.

In regards to the group, I hope the map helps you find your way around. If you ever have any questions about the group, please feel free to send me a private email.

Again, welcome to both GoodReads and my group! You'll have a great time on both, I think. :)

SOS is most definitely the right place for you then. I don't know if it's possible to NOT add tons of new series reads to your TBR stack while cruisin' around this group! Hope you're able to find some you enjoy.

message 43: by Diane ~Firefly~ (new)

Diane ~Firefly~ | 913 comments My name is Diane and I am a series addict. Well really just a book addict but so many of them are part of series.

Even worse than being a book addict, since joining GR, I've become a challenge addict. In fact, that's how I heard about this group - something about a challenge of firsts.

So the first thing I do is check out your challenge section and they sound interesting, so of course I have to join. What is worse, is I look at the "Challenge" Challenge and realize I have 13 challenges that started this month.

So thanks for being one more enabler for me and I look forward to all the new series I'm going to end up adding to my TBR/wishlist.

message 44: by Fran (new)

Fran Hi, I'm Fran and like Diane I heard about the challenge of firsts on the RRRC thread and here I am. My love of reading was rekindled when I read the Twilight series a few years ago and I have been full force since then. I have only been doing challenges for a few months but love them. So far my fav series are BDB, Wolf Tales, Sherilyn Kenyon's Dark series, Christine Feehan's Dark series, Lorelei James' Rough Rider series. Have started a several other series but not too far along yet.

I look forward to expanding my series horizons!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Hello I just joined yesterday. I was directed here from the Romance Readers Challenge Group. I was looking for a 1st ina series challenge so I signed up for that one.

I'm moving soon and packing up books. I've been making goodreads shelves by series # because it seems like every book now is part of a series. Anyway I need a better way to sort my books and think might try going by series #. I have so far well over 100 1st in a series books. I've been trying to read a couple every month so I can decide if I want to get rid of others that I have or get the ones I'm missing.

Again, thanks to whoever suggested my group. I hope you enjoy it here. We here at SOS are all serious series addicts and many of us are challenge addicts as well. So, you've come to the right place. :)

Mary, I have a thread called "How Do You Keep Track of Your Series" which might help you with organizing yours. There are a lot of suggestions there. Hope you're able to find one that works for you too.

Good luck with the move!
