One-word title, might include article. The book contained a lot of stories, some only a couple of pages long. Lots of symbolism and perhaps surreal situations. Almost no descriptions - you'd read about generic things such as "a table", "a door", "a man", not a specific person, etc. Only the first and the last stories are connected - I think the book gets its name from the first one, or an important item in it. Language was very simple and straightforward, but stories perhaps evoked simple philosophical questions.
Plot, as far as I remember:
First story has something to do with a room or a house with lots of doors, perhaps central character trapped. I think there's a presence of some sort, and then at the last story he realizes the presence was himself.
Another story about a fishbowl on a table in a room (?).
A story about two people in different, far away spots walking towards each other.
Something about a labyrinth(or am I confusing that with Borges?)
Also, for some reason, Jorge Luis Borges comes to mind when trying to remember the book, but it couldn't have been a Borges book, the language and plot was too simple. My book read like what Borges would have written when he was 10 years old.
That's it. Let's see what you come up with... thanks!
