What are you initial thoughts on this book? I'll be picking it up later today ...

nb | 3 comments Just read the description on Amazon. Not the typical type of "fantasy" I've been used to reading, but sounds very interesting.

Donna (donnahr) I'm reading Hero Wanted by Dan McGirt today, I saw it recommended somewhere, maybe by you Geoffrey. I'm enjoying it--very funny.

I voted for Stealing the Elf-King's Roses, the premise sounded interesting. I should start on it tomorrow.

Charles (nogdog) Downloaded and read the sample last night. I've not yet convinced myself to spend the $9.99 on the book. It didn't look bad, but it didn't look real good to me, either. But then a lot of you already know how picky I can be. :-)

PS: FWIW, I'm about 1/3 into The White Wolf's Son: The Albino Underground and finding it a mixed bag of interesting writing but an unbelievable main character.

I read to 34% so far, there are a lot of interesting ideas being thrown about.

Lyndl | 27 comments My initial thoughts are Bugger! This title is not available for customers from: Australia

I'm only about 14% into the book and the plot is just starting up - it appears like it's going to be an odd mix of urban fantasy without all the darkness and a cop drama .... I'm curious where its going to go.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished it just now, was a decent read and kept my interest to the end. Not much to say without spoilers, but I thought there were some fun concepts being played with here, but not in a terribly heady way (for good or for bad).

message 9: by Donna (new)

Donna (donnahr) I'm 66% in and really enjoying the book. I can't decide though if it should be classified as a fantasy (with a mystery plot) or a mystery (set in an alternate universe). I read a lot of both mystery and fantasy, so I really like the premise.

My only criticism so far is that I got bogged down and a little bored with all the details of the fairy gold market manipulations, but I have to put that down to the fact that I hated economics in college and haven't changed my mind about it since then.

I am curious to see where the story goes. In fact, I was hoping this was a series because I like the characters so much but apparently it's a stand-alone book. Too bad.

message 10: by Eric (new)

Eric (proggyboog) I'll be getting to this book, but it's probably going to be a few more days. I've bought it and read the preliminary stuff. Still haven't started the first chapter, though.

message 11: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Swingle I just started the book yesterday, and I have to say, it's not holding my interest at all so far. (I'm a couple of chapters in.)

I'm surprised, as I like some of Diane Duane's other stuff.

message 12: by Sue (new)

Sue Bowling (sueannbowling) | 12 comments I just got and started the book--about a third of the way through. I really liked Duane's Door Into Fire, and while this looks quite different, I really like the characters. Especially Gelert.
