RandomAnthony I'm not very good at meetings...I get bored and walk out sooner or later, but I'll do my best.

Since we have many members who are not active participants in posting our meeting will require name tags. YOUR NAME TAG SHOULD CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING:
1) Randomanthony
2) Uh...
3) Wind-Up Bird Chronicle
4) Don't have one, but I'm not big into Henry James or excessively formal prose unless it's Shakespeare or Bronte or whatever...
5) Hm. Edward Hopper, lately...
6) Um...off the top of my head...Alice in Wonderland.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Dave, Yeah...so?

Logan, really? Stranger in a Strange Land? I was with you up to section three...then...well, suffice it to say I was glad when Michael Valentine Smith died! I would have only liked it better if I'd have been able to pelt him with something myself...

RA, how did I know you were going to say Alice? :)

Summer, Rock On Next Gen!!! Data was my fav tho.

Jacks, you gotta read it again. I hated Wuthering Heights the first time too...then a few years later I re-read it and loved it. The first time I actually stopped half way through, threw it at my roommate who gave it to me to read in the first place and refused to read further. Heh!

message 11: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 78 comments Amelia, I can definitely understand a strong dislike for Smith. I wasn't too keen on his cult either. Still, I don't think that Smith is the main character. He's more of the foil that leads to Jubal and Jill's growth as characters. I dream of being as crotchety as Jubal one day, though I know I'll never have three buxom assistants.

I actually didn't know what to list as my favorite book, so I asked my wife and she told me. After a few seconds thought it made sense- I reread it about once a year, I buy multiple copies to give to friends and I'll talk about it from here to eternity.

T-shirt and jeans for me. And flip-flops.

message 24: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony I have a hard time walking in flip-flops. Those Nike sports sandals work better. But I agree on the t-shirt and jeans part. That's what I wear to work, usually, except maybe a collared shirt with the jeans, and better shoes in the winter.

Charly... are you one of those nudists? How shocking. I'm aghast!

at the moment me and flannel are reliving the grunge era. too tired to wear anything less comfy.

Reads with Scotch | 1977 comments Mod
They are trying to brush the Charissa out of their bikinis. Have you ever had sand in an unwanted spot? Sand is fun on the beach not so much when it is hanging out in taint town.

Hayley | 576 comments Least favourite book - The Shipping News - I couldn't think of it earlier.

I agree with Nick, sand on a beach is fine but I don't tend to venture onto beaches - I went to Turkey in May and for about a week I was finding sand everywhere - I went on the beach once. Which means Charissa that you where not only the sand in my bikini but in my shoe's, bag, purse and god no knows what else lol

RA, I don't like flip-flops either and I'm little so I live in high heels all year round.

message 30: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Yeah, David! Stick it to the misogynist Napaul! :)

Hayley: As a person not that much over five feet, I also believe in the magical powers of high heels. It's like a whole 'nother world a four inches up those stilettos. :)

message 31: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 576 comments Kelly - I so agree. I went to watch Bon Jovi on Sunday, he was in Manchester,UK and I was standing and made the mistake of wearing flats (for comfort) and couldn't see a thing - not good when I'd been waiting since November to see him live.

message 32: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Exactly! What is the well being of arches and heels and toes when a good concert is at risk? Pshaw, I say.

message 33: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 576 comments I wore flats because I thought 7+ hours in heels would leave me crippled for life instead the flats did worse damage and I am using the power of the heel to repair the damaged caused.

By the way the concert (of what I could see) was brilliant, Bon Jovi are amazing live.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Willa, are you Hawaiian?

My gran was a Kumu.

message 35: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony I dig girls in heels, but they look tough in which to walk. I feel badly for you girls when you have to put those suckers on.

message 36: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Yeah, I feel badly for me too, but only after about five hours in them. Before then, heels are in every way awesome. I generally don't subscribe to lipstick feminism, but I make an exception for the power of high heels. :)

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Mmmm, I'm with Kim on this one, no heels for me. There would be nothing sexy about me wabbling around on my weak ankles! I feel more "powerful" in my camo DMs, thanks.

message 38: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Life is too short for heels. But I did love the 70s when we wore those big platforms. I'm not short, but it was so cool to be taller.

No heels for Jackie, shoes or otherwise.

message 41: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony In professional wrestling the people who are the villains are called "heels".

Just thought you'd want to know.

(It's hard to be a good heel, and your success is measured by how much people boo for you.)

message 42: by Willie (new)

Willie | 57 comments Amy - I am 1/4 Hawaiian and went to school on Oahu at Kamehameha. What kind of teacher was your gran?

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Polynesian dance. I was forced into a grass skirt and bra top for 10 years of my childhood...UGH! It's beautiful, don't get me wrong. Grams could dance Brown Eyes and make me cry, but I have a distinct lack of rhythm and could never remember the steps.

I am sooooo jealous, Amy! I already told Willie about how disappointed I was as a kid when the hula dance class I was signed up for got cancelled because there weren't enough students.
I've never, ever, ever, ever gotten over that. HULA!!!

message 45: by Willie (new)

Willie | 57 comments I got out of learning the Hula some how, and it was not on my list of things I really wanted to do. I do like to watch others dance. I just could never get into the outfits and the seriousness with all the hip and knee movements. Sorry Jackie about the class cancellation...you would have been cute at it, where I just sucked and looked out of place and kept getting in trouble for laughing.

message 46: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
I do hula, but it's made up hula. In jeans and t-shirt, not a grass skirt.
Lovely hula hands, graceful as the birds in motion,
Gliding like the gulls over the ocean,
lovely hula hands...

Hey, wait a minute! There aren't seagulls in Hawaii, it's the wrong habitat for them. What kind of Hawaiian song is this??

message 47: by Lori (new)

Lori No seagulls in Hawaii?

message 48: by Jackie "the Librarian", Cool Star Trek Nerd (new)

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Not usually. Sometimes they get blown there by a storm, and apparently some migrate through, but no gulls actually LIVE in Hawaii. Weird, huh?

message 49: by Willie (new)
