Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments I've been part of this group for quite some time but haven't really posted as of yet. A few people, especially Colleen, told me how great this group is so I'm excited about it.

My goal at the beginning of the year was to read 50 books in 2010. And then I sort of stopped reading for a couple of months due to issues going on in real life. Then one day, it was beginning of May and I realized I'd only read 5 books in the first 4 months and none in February! Shame on me!

So, I started slowly easing myself back into reading with graphic novels, which I apparently love, and have been on a bit of a reading frenzy ever since. I'm including my graphic novels in my list and highly recommend them to anyone who is interested. I'm ashamed to admit that I used to think that comics were for kids or people who didn't read or just for silly, teenage boys. Apparently not. Or at least not all of them ;)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments LOL That's another reason I decided to add the GN's on my list ;)

32. The Wake Neil Gaiman (GN)
33. Death: the High Cost of Living Neil Gaiman (GN)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Jennifer, I love NG and his Sandman graphic novels are supposed to be really good, although I haven't read any of them yet.

message 13: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments They really are Lyn. They're excellent!
What have you read by him? I haven't read any of his novels yet but am waiting for Stardust to come in at the library.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I read three of his novels:

The Graveyard Book- this was good, but for younger readers, so not great for me.

Neverwhere - I loved this book. It was my first 5 star read of the year.

AND American Gods which I started by haven't gotten to finish. It started sort of weird, so I didn't think I would like it, but then it got really good. By then, though, it was due at the library.

message 15: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments I've heard good things about them, esp. Neverwhere and American Gods. I thought the same thing (about it being weird) when I looked at AG but maybe I'll give it a shot if you thought it got better.

You should give Sandman a shot. I was skeptical but loved it!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I'll have to do that.

47. Stardust Neil Gaiman
48. Superman/Batman Vol. 1: Public Enemies Jeph Loeb (GN)

Wahoo! Actually got around to finishing a novel this weekend instead of just GN's :)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) How did you like Stardust? I have read a couple of Neil Gaiman's books and generally like him. I really liked Neverwhere, but thought The Graveyard Book was so so.

message 40: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Actually, I was sort of disappointed with it. I don't think I gave it a fair shot because I started out with such high expectations for it. I loved the Sandman comics (also by Gaiman) so much and loved the Stardust movie so much, that I could barely contain my excitement to read a novel by him, and especially this one. It seemed a little bit too... young for me, maybe? The story is a wonderful one and I loved all of the characters, places, etc. I guess, for me, it just wasn't as good as the movie. At some point I plan to read Neverwhere and I've also heard that American Gods is really good.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Interesting, that is exactly what I thought of The Graveyard Book, that it was too young for me. I have heard that his Sandman stuff is fantastic, and I gave Neverwhere 5 stars. American Gods is the next one of his on my list.
