Kristi (kristicoleman) Good to hear...since you are the leader...lol. I will be sending you your "Discussion Leader" Gift by the end of the week xD...have fun on your trip!!

Andrea Thanks!...hahahaha

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) This looks great, Kristi. Thanks for all the work. I am looking forward to starting next week!

Andrea PS...I love your new pic :)

message 7: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) thanks...I was camping last weekend, and the husband was taking candid shots...he caught me with my "head scarf" on...lol. It was a fun and chilly trip!

Andrea You look in your natural "element" which is fun!

Branden (cinefessions) Great work Kristi! I'm excited to get going.

Nathalie (natjen29) I'm joining in! :)
I'll be reading it in Dutch, but I hope the translation doesn't get lost on the way. I'm sure the chapters are the same.
THis is FUN! My first group reading!

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) This is my 3rd reading and I'm very excited! :)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Nath, it is my first one also.

Andrea I'm so excited that we are going to have a good amount of people reading this one!

message 14: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) I know...this is going to be lively!! Awesome!

message 15: by Loretta (last edited Aug 19, 2010 04:26PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Loretta (lorettalucia) Thanks for setting this up, Kristi! Just got back from my vacation to find the copy I ordered waiting at the front desk. I'll start work on it this weekend. :)

Nathalie (natjen29) Kathy wrote: "This is my 3rd reading and I'm very excited! :)"

Hey.. it's my third reread too! Maybe we'll see some hidden meaning in between the words :)

Nathalie (natjen29) Lyn M wrote: "Nath, it is my first one also."

ALways good to know that I'm not the only one. :)
I'm sticking close to you!

Nathalie (natjen29) Indeed, thanks Kristy.
Your enthusiasm got me going. I wasn't planning on participating since I read twice already, but then I just got carried away. :)

It's good that we're spreading it over a few months. That way I can read other books in between.. although I'm a bit worried that once I start reading The Stand, I won't be able to stop! :P

message 19: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Nath, no worries, just keep a notebook of your thoughts on the sections and then post them in the Discussions when we get there. I'm pretty excited about this book too! From all the great feedback I can't wait to read it!

I still have to get caught up on Anna, that is kind of proving to be a battle of wills at this moment, since I'm on a WWII jag...oh well, I'll keep chipping away at it.

Only 2 days until we kick off The Stand!!

Nathalie (natjen29) You're first time reading The Stand?
I sure you'll like it!

It has been praised King's best.. and having read most of his work, I'm not the one to deny it.
Going to use my weekend to get the first part done!

I always catch new things and little hints or tidbits relating the the Stephen King Universe with every reread of any of his books. It's great ! Always something I didn't catch before. I'm really looking forward to this! We'll have to compare notes, Nath! :)

Nathalie (natjen29) Equally excited!
I think I've read most of his work multiple times.
Certainly the Stand. Only wish I had it in English. The language in which it is written is ten times better than translations.

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) JUST SO HAPPENS MY MOM WASHED HER CELL PHONE THIS MORNING WITH HER JEANS SO I AM GOING TO BUY MY COPY TODAY SINCE BARNES AND NOBLE IS NEXT TO VERIZON. ILL CATCH UP TONIGHT OR OVER THE WEEKEND FOR SURE. THIS WILL BE MY FIRST EVER STEPHEN KING READ.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Dawn, that's so exciting! I remember my first King book....Pet Semetary when I was 15! Ok, that was awhile ago. Enjoy! :)

message 25: by Dawn (new) - added it

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) I SAW THE MOVIE

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) lol. It wasn't the best adaptation, but it wasn't bad. It was a great book, though! :)

message 27: by Dawn (new) - added it

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) Got my copy last night will starting to read it tonight.

Loretta (lorettalucia) I read the prologue last night... all maybe 4-5 pages of it. :-P

In my own defense, most of my evening was spent reading another 100 pages of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Only 60 pages left! I'll likely finish that tonight and get another chapter or two of The Stand done.

message 29: by Dawn (new) - added it

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) i heard that was great is it?

Loretta (lorettalucia) Yes, it really is. I'm quite certain it's going to end up being a 5 star review for me. :)

Keep in mind, too, that I am NOT a mystery lover, and I loved this, so that basically means that it was great enough to overcome my general prejudice against mysteries.

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) Ok thats

message 32: by Gwenyth (new) - added it

Gwenyth Love (everythinggwenny) Oh I am glad to find this schedule! I haven't been able to start this yet because I wanted to read The Hunger Games trilogy before my son read it, and I am just finishing up the last book this week. Then I will start The Stand. With the breaks you have given us I should still be able to finish up with everyone no problem! Awesome!

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Gwenyth, The Stand is very readable and goes pretty fast. You won't have any problems, I'm sure! :)

message 34: by Dawn (new) - added it

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) I STARTED WITH THE REST THEN GOT STUCK WITH SOMETHING ELSE AND AM FINALLY GOING BACK TO IT TONIGHT. SO ILL COMMENT WHEN I REACH THE FIRT 50 PAGES

Andrea We'll hold off for changing the schedule for now and give some leeway for people to jump in late or catch up. Maybe when we get a little further into the book we can revisit the idea.

Loretta (lorettalucia) I would like to speed up at some point in the future (if only because I'd like to finish The Stand before 2010 ends so that I can include in my "2010" shelf).

But I'm currently also reading Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitler's Eagle's Nest, which is WONDERFUL, so I'm glad the reading schedule gives us time to read other things.

Nathalie (natjen29) I agree. I'm reading The Prince of Tides and Burning your boats at the moment too. The stand it a novel too thick to carry everywhere with me (I don't leave the house without a book) so it's good that there is time to read something else in between.

But I do agree with the fact that I'd like to finish it before christmas. Somehow it seems a bit sad to have two weeks of no reading so close to the end.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I don't understand any "no reading" weeks. But maybe that's just me.

message 39: by Dawn (new) - added it

Dawn rizzi (dawnie278) ILL LET YOU KNOW HOW I FEEL TOMORROW AFTER I TRY TO CRAM IN THE FIRST WEEKS PAGES TONIGHT.

message 40: by Kristi (last edited Sep 13, 2010 01:29PM) (new)

Kristi (kristicoleman) Kathy, the "no reading" weeks are holiday weeks. I know lots of people have family visit or they travel, so I thought it would be nice to let them take the week off and not feel pressured to read while getting ready for the holidays. You can feel free to get ahead if you want to...

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) No, I understand. I'm just teasing.

Andrea I see what you guys mean and I know Krisit build in the holidays so people would not feel like they had to read and entertain family, cook, shop for the holidays etc. In a couple of weeks we will most likely have a group of several us that are sticking with the book, at the point we can talk about what we want to do. It is nice at this point to go a little slower so people can still jump in and participate. If there are just 5 of us reading the book and we all want to go a little faster I'll redo the schedule. Sounds ok and fair to everyone?

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Sounds good. :)

Nathalie (natjen29) Sounds marvelous! :)

message 45: by Victoria (last edited Sep 14, 2010 01:49PM) (new)

Victoria Sounds good to me too. I read more during holidays.

Trisha I am kind of happy for the "no reading" weeks in December since we are expecting our second little munchkin to be born on Dec. 21'st and I am not sure if I can read "The Stand" and deliver a baby at the same time. My doctor might frown on that! Hahaha!

Andrea Vicky, I also read more during the holidays those extra days off are perfect for reading when you are sick of the malls...lol

Trisha, first of all big Congrats!!! How exciting for you and your family. Do you know what your having? Second, maybe if we end up pushing up the schedule we can finish so you don't have to come home to a newborn and the Stand...lol

message 48: by Gwenyth (new) - added it

Gwenyth Love (everythinggwenny) OK I finally started this today! Yay!

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) Enjoy! You'll get swept away with the rest of us! :)

Nathalie (natjen29) Congrats Trisha!! Is it your first? :)
