You mean how it's affected it?

Dragonrider Like do you think more violence happens or abortion are not a big deal in some place?

message 3: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Evolution only affects someone's beliefs if they believe evolution.

message 4: by austen (new)

austen (oncebef0re) Examples?

message 5: by austen (new)

austen (oncebef0re) Some do. Hopefully not me. Have I treated you that way? (although you're not a scientist, neither am I)

austen (oncebef0re) Some might. I leave room for flaws in people, knowing that I have plenty myself. ;-)

Same here!!!!!!! Though we weren't supposed to have any in the bginning.

Thanks...and please don't judge us all by the same extremist standard...I don't think that (as a rule) we've been doing that to you...

Angus | 28 comments Girl4beluga wrote: "Um....well...what do you think evolution has done to modern theology?"

Evolution has given us the ability to do theology. The theory of evolution has challenged theology to do a better job of talking about God.

I'm not sure what yoy mean by "giving us the ability to 'do' theology", but I agree that it has challenged believers to express themselves better. There will always be things like that.

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments Girl4beluga wrote: "Well it seems that now people who are creationists seem to look down on scientists who study evolution and so on as complete atheists who have no moral values."

Science actually completely disproves evolution, sweetheart.

message 17: by Dragonrider (new)

Dragonrider For one, the high information content of DNA is great evidence against evolution. Did you know that a pinhead of DNA has a billion times more information capacity than a 4-gigabit hard drive. What evolutionary science says that all this information was random, like getting a group of monkeys together and give them typewriters and get Shakespearean writing from them.

message 18: by Kate (new)

Kate R (katetheshortone) Prove that evolution is true.

message 19: by Kate (new)

Kate R (katetheshortone) I'm asking you to give me a definiton and why it is true that tells me nothing.

message 20: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments Evolution.

message 21: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments uh yeah. that's what she meant.

message 22: by Dragonrider (new)

Dragonrider Girl4beluga wrote: "Yes I did. Your point???????"

So your saying that that all this info was randomly placed to make you or me. That is my point.

message 23: by Kate (new)

Kate R (katetheshortone) Girl4beluga wrote: "well considering who my mother decided to take half his genes from.............

If you are asking me if I think evolution is a random process? yes and No"

mostly yes.

message 24: by Dragonrider (new)

Dragonrider So a single cell to millons of cells by chance?

message 25: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Your argument is extreeeeeeemely vague

message 26: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments the chance of all of this in the universe being created by pure chance is the probability of ten rubix cubes being solved by 100 blind people, each of them making five random moves (or something to that effect). You get what I mean.

message 27: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments I got that from a class that I'm taking at my church on different world views. I didn't just make it up. I don't do that with my beliefs unlike some people. I can't believe that you have a problem with me potentially making up things, but everything you've based your life on has been made up besides the fact that there is a God. Hypocrite.

message 28: by Dragonrider (new)

Dragonrider Girl4beluga wrote: "Did you make it up or did you get that from somewhere?"

One in 10 to the power of 68.

message 29: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments yup, something like that.

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments A 1 in 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 chance. And yes I did count out 69 zeroes.

message 31: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments That isn't something that someone made up. I'm trying to find my place in this world, but not religiously.

message 32: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments I haven't got it comepletely figured out. I have a ton to learn and find out, but I know that I want to be a Christian. I'm comfortable with that fact and where I am. I've read the Bible and I KNOW that it doesn't contridict itself once, so I rather believe in that than anything else.

message 33: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments As an example, scientists who believe in evolution hypothesize that the whale evolved from a hyena, cat or hippo. So if you want to be scientific, then here is the likelihood of a hyena evolving into a whale. Mathematical equation:

# of body changes x # of new proteins needed per change x # of amino acids in each new protein x 3 new letters of DNA needed for each new amino acid added = total # of DNA letters that must be added

9 body changes x 1 new protein per change x 100 amino acids per new protein x 3 letters of DNA for each new amino acid added = 2,700 DNA letters

Since DNA is comprised of only four letters, the odds of adding the correct single letter of DNA for any one position on the DNA strand are one out of four. The odds then of adding 2,700 new letters of DNA would be 1/4 times 1/4 times 1/4 and so on, 2,700 times. (which is 1/4 to the 2,700th power)

Is this scientific enough for you?

So, the odds of a hyena becoming a whale by random mutations are one out of 364 followed by 1,625 zeros.

more than
364,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

message 34: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments So yes. The argument would be probability.

message 35: by Sharissa (new)

Sharissa Spangler | 65 comments That's actually really interesting! I need to right that down...:D

message 36: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Haha yes, you should :D Oh but btw, I didn't do the math myself, it's from EVOLUTION: The Grand Experiment bye Dr. Carl Werner :)

message 37: by Sandy (last edited Sep 26, 2010 07:50PM) (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Do you want us to find the exact probabilities for every possible evolution example?

Well, for starters, if you believe in evolution then you have to believe that a whale evolved from one cell, whatever came in between. And let's see, the exact probability has gotta have a LOT of zeros.

message 38: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Girl4beluga wrote: "of course, I never thought you would...however if he thought a hyena would evolve into a whale..then he doesn't understand evolution at all."

Okay, then you tell me exactly how evolution occurred.

message 39: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Girl4beluga wrote: "No but that one is completely inaccurate.

Well once it starts it doesn't matter."

How do you know it's inaccurate? Show me the flaw?

But once it starts, the odds are the same.

If you are so convicted that whales did NOT evolve from hyenas, then tell me where you do think they came from.

message 41: by Kate (new)

Well obviously wehaven't gone to a really weird church and learned about evolution and a God who doesn't care what anyone does.

If you believed in the Bible and actually knew about Satan then you wouldn't be saying that..

I'm glad I made your day and that you laughed out loud at God's teachings...

Wow how scornful to think that God's teachings aren't real..

And you can't say I'm not true....because God doesn't care what we think so I may(in you standards) be right.

message 44: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Girl4beluga wrote: "because a hyena would not evolve into a whale and if it did the whale would also be evolving so the math would have to include that . "

If a hyena is evolving into a whale, the whale is just the result and it wouldn't be evolving.

message 45: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Girl4beluga wrote: "but a hyena (today) couldn't evolve into a whale like whales are today."

If it's a series of random mutations, then anything could evolve into anything, right?

Go from 800 millon to 553,000,000 and look at the cells. How did this become a trilobites?

message 47: by Dragonrider (new)

Dragonrider So jellyfish came before, the trilobites?

message 48: by Dragonrider (new)

Dragonrider I thought jellyfish don't have bones, so how do they have fossils?

message 49: by Sandy (new)

Sandy (sandycrow) | 104 comments Okay you're always demanding proof, how do you know any of this?

message 50: by Dragonrider (new)

Dragonrider Plants have fiber, jellyfish are made up out of 95% water.
