Fantasy Book Club discussion

Seems to me Wit is going to be a major player later. Although he didn't appear much in this first installment, enough mysterious clues were dropped that makes me think he may end up a playing a bigger role in later installments. Any seers out there with predictions?

If Wit is 'Hoid' then he's been in all of Brandon's books (not including Alcatraz and WOT). He's been a very mysterious character throughout, always seeming to be in a teaching/storytelling position. I wonder if this is Hoid's world and will have that bigger role in this series.

I wonder if maybe he is one of the wandering heralds because somehow he knows how to travel to different planets and that doesn't seem to be very common knowledge for anyone else in those other worlds. He also seems to be in the right place to give out that pertinant bit of information when it is needed. In Way of Kings, he helped Kaladin understand a little better what was happening to him and what he needed to do about it. Plus he knew where the last Herald would show up.

I thought it was interesting that Wit/Hoid seemed a little sad in this one. Or maybe resigned. The connections between books have niggled at my brain ever since finding out that it's the same "Hoid" in all of Sanderson's novels and I'm excited that we may find out more about Hoid's back story.

Wit reminded me very much of the Fool in Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, which I happened to have recently read. Both are great examples of characters that know far more than they're telling, but even with all that knowledge are somehow powerless to stop what's coming. It's interesting that Hoid seems to show up right around the time of cataclysmic events... a historian, perhaps?
