Sofia I read "the Man in the Black Suit" right before I went to sleep - bad idea ... Stephen K not only produces great works of fiction but also great nightmares :-/ ....

Kerra Lol, yeah that story was defitanely scary :D

Atarah Poling I loved Everything's Eventual. Stephen King really knows how to get under someone's skin... never a good idea to read his books before going to sleep. LOL.

Kerra Atarah wrote: "I loved Everything's Eventual. Stephen King really knows how to get under someone's skin... never a good idea to read his books before going to sleep. LOL."

Agreed :D I loved it too, the only short story book that he came out with that I really didn't care for was Nightmares and Dreamscapes. It was ok, but not as good as the others.

Atarah Poling I pretty much like all of his books including the Nightmares And Dreamscapes. However Everything's Eventual was probably the best one, in my opinion.

Yes, I have to agree with that too. However, I like The Skeleton Crew alot too. I really did like the Nightmares and Dreamscapes alot, but I did like Everything's Eventual a lot better.

Kerra Are you a big Stephen King fan?

Atarah Poling I am a HUGE fan of stephen king lol. The Skeleton Crew was pretty good no doubt I have to agree with you.

Lol, Great! He is my favorite author. Maybe sometime you would like to come on my radio show called Kerra's Weekly Book Club and talk about some of his books that you like and opinions about them. I would love that if you would. It is still new and it is for just books, book topics, and for buddy reads. I will schedule a show for Friday April 22nd at 6:00PST time and at 9:00EST time if you would like to come on and be a guest on my show. If you are interested I will give you more information. Also I am going to send you a friend request :)

I will think about it Kerra. Sadly that week is a very busy week for me. But we'll c if I can do it.

Tom Bensley My favorite from EE was Riding the Bullet. What a riveting story! Cliche'd ending, but great otherwise.

That is great :) When ever you have the time would be perfect for me. I won't post anything about the show until I knew you were ready and had time for it. Thanks for at least saying that you would be interested in doing it. I LOVE Stephen King. I think it would be an amazing topic to discuss.

Kerra Bensley56 wrote: "My favorite from EE was Riding the Bullet. What a riveting story! Cliche'd ending, but great otherwise."

I agree! I thought it was a good story too. However, the ending left you hanging, I mean you have a good idea of what the happened or could have happened, but I was like "darn" lol, at the ending. It was an amazing story though.

I think my favorite story out of the book was "That feeling, you can only say what it is in French" I really liked that story. I really don't remember it all the way because it has been such a long time since I read it, but I do remember that I liked it alot. I think the only one I really didn't care for so much was "1408" because I had watched the movie before reading it and I think the movie is way better. Which is weird for a Stephen King short story to have the movie be better than the story. That is really rare.

moore I'm a little different--I liked EE, but I wouldn't rate it as highly as the other collections. Still great, though.

I didn't really care for the Nightmares and Dreamscapes too much and felt that out of the short story books he has came out with that that is the one that I least like. I thought Just After Sun Set was a good short story book though. Probably my favorite.

Erin despite the mixed opinions, i thoroughly enjoyed Everything's Eventual. my favorite short story from this particular collection is "Riding the Bullet"-- it was a real chiller. also really liked "The Man in the Black Suit".

I also like the story "The Man in the Black Suit" :) That one was really good. I liked the Riding the Bullet too, but I hate to be left hanging with just your imagination or what you might think happened. I have a good idea of what happened, but I would have liked to know for sure. Not horrible though.

~ Cheryl ~ I loved EE. There's been some less-than-enthusiastic talk here about Nightmares & Dreamscapes. It may not be the best collection story for story, but there's one tale that has stayed with me for years now. It is "The End Of The Whole Mess" If you've never read it, it's worth picking up a copy from the libaray just to read that one story.

Kerra CC Doremi wrote: "I loved EE. There's been some less-than-enthusiastic talk here about Nightmares & Dreamscapes. It may not be the best collection story for story, but there's one tale that has stayed with me for ..."

Yes, I also loved this book. I think that was one of the best stories too. Was that a story in the Nightmares and Dreamscapes? I think it was. Maybe I am getting two stories messed up :D But I think I know what story there is and if it is from the Nightmares and Dreamscapes then there is also a movie for that book that has that story in it. You should check the movies out that they made for that book. I kind of liked the story Rock 'N Roll Heaven in that book.

Frank Zubek I have always thought that King's short stories and novellas were much better reads than most of his longer work (especially when he went over 500 pages)

But that's just me

Full Dark No Stars, (his most recent collection) has 4 novellas that just knock Under the Dome right off the map (and again- that's just my humble opinion)

Kerra Frank,

Wow thanks for letting me know that. I have been wanting to read Full Dark No Stars for a long time, but just havn't gotten to it yet :) Hopefully I will soon. I have Under The Dome too :) But I havn't read that one either yet. I am currently reading IT and I really like it a lot. But no you have me curious and I will have to read that sooner than I thought I would. Thanks!

I agree that some of King's strongest works are his short stories. Sometimes he can go on (and on and on) in his novels. 1408 was my favorite story of this EE collection and while I like some of the guy's novels, this is my favorite thing he's written.

Ooooh "It" that was one of my Very favorite books of his.. and then Needful things is my second.. You are lucky to be just reading them for the first time. I’m jealous! lol also Under the Dome was very good! Nice and Loooong just the way I like them. ;) Enjoy!

Scott Really enjoyed this book. I didn't like every story, but the good ones...nice. Skeleton Crew was my favorite collection in my younger days. Everything's Eventual is the next best. BUT for novellas, none compare to Different Seasons.

Awe thank you :) I started reading Stephen King when I was 16 and the books that I have read so far are: Misery, Cujo, Skeleton Crew, Storm of the Century, The TommyKnocers, Salem's Lot, and Duma Key. :) So far Duma Key is my favorite, but it is hard to pick a favorite out of Stephen King books because they are all so good! Lol, I am LOVING It! I am about 300 pages into it. Lol, got a long way to go seeing how there are 1,000 some pages, but that is one thing that I like about Stephen King books, they are always long and very enjoyable :) Thanks! I sent you a friend request, hope you accept and hope to talk to you more about Stephen King books!

Bryon Carter For me, EE's title story was a favorite. Loved many of the other stories but I think this is the one that stood out most. Next to that would be "The little Sisters..." but that being a spin-off of the dark tower series rather than an "original" short story I'm not sure it really fits into the discussion.

Kerra Yeah, I kind of thought the same thing with "The Little Sisters"...seeng how I have never read the Dark Tower series, it was kind of neat, but I was really lost :)

Stacey Lynn EE was a wonderful book with a fun variety of stories. I just finished it about two weeks ago. Stephen King is just a good storyteller all around and his short stories always stand out.

Stacey Lynn Scott wrote: "Really enjoyed this book. I didn't like every story, but the good ones...nice. Skeleton Crew was my favorite collection in my younger days. Everything's Eventual is the next best. BUT for novella..."

I didn't even think about Different Seasons! I agree, that was a great book! I should add it to my reread list.

Kerra Yes, Stacey I thought the same thing when he mentioned it. Have you read Just After Sunset? That is an amazing short story novel from him also :)

Stacey Lynn Kerra wrote: "Yes, Stacey I thought the same thing when he mentioned it. Have you read Just After Sunset? That is an amazing short story novel from him also :)"

Thats funny you should mention Just After Sunset because I was just looking at it when I was at the bookstore! I need to add it to my to-read list and pick it up.

Kerra :) It is a wonderful book. The first story especially! Did you get the chance to pick it up yet? For some reason that book in particular is a hard one to find. Every time I got to a second hand book store I never find it, or at Wal-Mart, I had to order mine from a book store. Hope you get it soon! Would love to hear what you think of it :)

Stacey Lynn Kerra wrote: ":) It is a wonderful book. The first story especially! Did you get the chance to pick it up yet? For some reason that book in particular is a hard one to find. Every time I got to a second hand boo..."

No I haven't picked it up yet but in my area it doesn't seem difficult to find. I looked at it at the bookstore yesterday. I ended up hitting the buy two get one free sale! I decided I had spent enough for the day and took my new treasures home. It was fun finding three books I had wanted to read all on sale!

Kerra :) That is always good when you hit good sales and you find books that you have been really wanting to read. I actually borrowed that book from my grandma to read, lol, and she just gave it to me to keep yesterday :D What a crazy cowinki dink hu? :)

Alledria Does anyone else really like "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe"? I know it's not the scariest story out of the bunch, but for some reason, I really liked that one.

Daniel Gonçalves Alledria wrote: "Does anyone else really like "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe"? I know it's not the scariest story out of the bunch, but for some reason, I really liked that one."

For some reason found it funny and not to be taken seriously. I think king wanted to do a parody on mariage and divorce. DOn't you agree?

C. J. Scurria Kerra wrote: "I think the only one I really didn't care for so much was "1408" because I had watched the movie before reading it and I think the movie is way better. "

I read this book and 1408. I thought it wasn't bad. I sort of was confused and not scared by the movie. I remember thinking in the theaters if I really read the short-story since it was nothing like it. I found the tension in the film more scary than anything that was supposed to be frightening.

C. J. Scurria Alledria wrote: "Does anyone else really like "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe"? I know it's not the scariest story out of the bunch, but for some reason, I really liked that one."

Really good. I liked that one. I remember thinking how he would have sounded screaming, "Eee. Eee." lol.

Sofia Alledria wrote: "Does anyone else really like "Lunch at the Gotham Cafe"? I know it's not the scariest story out of the bunch, but for some reason, I really liked that one."

I thought that was a great story - I mean, completely crazy - and in the midst of all the blood, death, and violence, a couple going thru a divorce will still manage to find something to argue about lol

Anne I think this is one of King's best collections. I loved it, was scared by it. I'll reread at some point because it is so good.

Tricia Any book by Stephen king is always deliciously frightening. I love that he picks up on the very human quirks we all have and embeds them in the story and it makes it all feel so real. Now I can't think a real orangey sunset without thinking about 1408 and getting a few goosebumps.
