I was tempted to get this book.. is it good?

It's okay. I enjoyed it. It has lots of suggestions on books divided into themes: love, war, politics, humour, memoirs, death...and then they sprinkle the pages with anecdotes and trivia just to make it more interesting.

So how was it? I remember reading a book with the similar content - compilation of journals from the colonialists. they told us about how the local people stink, about elephants as the main transportation, about how local peoples were too afraid of hospitals, about amok cases among the malays..

It was a fun read. It was mostly about his work at the plantation, his search for the right girl (to sleep with not to marry, although he did marry in the end), gossip about his superiors and his astonishment that his house could be haunted by a pontianak.

The book you read...was it The Golden Chersonese? I plan to read that book someday soon.

My suggestion is don't listen to Brother Khairul's review because he is biased. He is so against Dr M I feel like they are archenemies or something like that.

17) How I Killed Pluto and Why It Had It Coming - Meh. It didn't keep my interest. It's about a very interesting subject and written by the guy who downgraded Pluto from a planet to just an ice ball and the book was not at all technical but my mind kept wandering to other things when I read it. Always a bad sign when that happens.

Encik Khairul, please pardon my daughter's latest obsession - Erin Hunter and the rest of the feline gang. She probably know not of the "Thundercats" that you are referring to in the title of this thread.

I think both her and I are mistaken. She thought I was referring to Thunderclan and I thought she was referring to my thread title (the Thundercats cartoon).

Ah, the young. They know not what they missed. Thundercats, Dungeons & Drangons, Smurfs, Duck Tales....good times, good times. We only had three TV channels and we enjoyed it, darn it!
