my dad tracked down this one guy who lived at the commune with us back in the early 70s that I have always remembered and wondered what happened to him. He lives in NYC and looks to be this really interesting, cool, amazing guy:

http://www.factorymade.org/about/inde...

I LOVE THE INTERNETS!

Also... I spent the night having dreams about an old flame from Ireland. My daughter and I were recording an album together and he was going to sing on it. Even when I can't be with people I love I at least get to spend time with them in my dreams. That makes me amazingly happy.

Also featured in the dream was some giant, black football player who I had won a bunch of money from at poker one night. His name was something like Guy DeBererdinas. My brain is an odd odd place.

message 5: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I went through a playlist of old songs I used to sing in my voice lessons, and I remembered how happy singing made me, which made me immediately form the resolution of getting back into voice lessons. I spent part of the morning looking into voice teachers. That made me happy. :)

Bunny: I'll trade you my heat for your cooling off. I much prefer fall weather to summer. Not a summer person at all, particularly with the constant beating heat and humidity I get here in DC.

Dave Russell Well, that's an asset in your line of work. Also, I see you take your work home with you.

message 8: by Xysea (new)

Xysea (xysea) That when I get home tonight, instead of my boyfriend being 3000 miles away, he'll be in my living room. And we're doing an open mic poetry reading tonight.

:)

message 12: by Misty (new)

Misty It was too hot to go outside today, so I de-cluttered and organized three closets! I wouldn't normally consider that a cheerful activity, but WOW I feel like I accomplished something!

Tim (Mole) The Gunslinger (Mole) | 62 comments The air conditioner made me happy today it was 100 degrees and felt like i was in a jungle!

message 16: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony Murakami's new memoir...

Misty, I'm closet cleaning today! I'm dreading it but I'm going to feel better afterwards, I'm sure. Tomorrow I'm tackling the basement...

message 17: by Misty (new)

Misty RA, be sure to vacuum while you're in the closet. Yeah, it's a chore, but it feels so good to close the door on a clean closet. Good luck with the basement...I pretend I don't have one.

message 18: by Nadine (new)

Nadine Hi, Charly, and all,

I agree, happiness shared is happiness multiplied. What made me happy yesterday was putting on some Irish music, dancing jigs, and making my husband laugh. He's been down with strep throat for our vacation.

Luckily for me, there are no pix of that jig....

message 19: by Charissa, That's Ms. Obnoxious Twat to You. (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) | 3614 comments Mod
irish jigs are a sure way to happiness. They were created to distract people while they starved to death.

I'm cheery today because I cleared out some of my extra projects. I got the review done for a challenged book, got all the July orders sent in, finally, and did all the Interlibrary load requests. I'm free to just do the regular work!

message 27: by Misty (new)

Misty Nice, Sarah M.! My sister likes for me to read aloud, but we don't get to as much as we did when we both still lived at home. I miss that.

What did you read?

message 28: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I got up at 6 am this morning, which usually wouldn't be happy for me, but it was today. I got up to go work out, which is great on so many levels. I feel better about how I look today, and about eating normally, and I don't have to dread going to the gym as soon as I get home! I usually do work out after work and I'm too exhausted to really push myself half the time, so my workout was better. And I feel generally badass for actually getting my ass out of bed to do it!

Also, the walk to the gym was lovely. I'm sick of summer weather, so it was a nice dose of upper sixties, with a slight breeze, which is my favorite weather. Also, I got to see the lovely colors just before/during the sunrise.

Yay!

message 29: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca | 83 comments A field of thistles. Love their frost-like geometry.

message 30: by Misty (new)

Misty I'm happy because I'm on my way to the beach and still get to play on GR because my hubby has this neat-o broadband wireless thingy. Yay for me!

message 31: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony Oh my god. That device sounds dangerous, Misty.

The first season of Veronica Mars is cheering me up. I'd never seen it but I bought the first season on a friend's recommendation and it's gooooood.

I love waking up early and working out. I already worked out too, Kelly...while watching Veronica Mars, actually.

message 32: by Misty (new)

Misty I'm just the passenger, so no danger! I have made him promise that he pulls over to check email; too many other distracted drivers out there!

message 33: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony I don't mean dangerous driving, Misty...I mean I might not even notice I was at the beach if I had it:)

message 34: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Oh, I've never seen Veronica Mars. Its credibility went down with me after they had an ANTM contestant on their show as a prize in one of their challenges. Though I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and say they bowed to network bigwig pressure, since the shows are/were both on the same channels. Whatever gets you motivated to work out, though! :)

I can't talk, though. I read the trashy tabaloids that people leave lying around. I always virtuously bring my New Yorker or my Economist, but half the time read those instead. Which is how I can say- has anyone else seen the fugly that is Hollywood shoe trends? It cheers me up that at least my shoes/feet area looks better than the bombshells strutting around red carpets. :)

Rereading Rebecca's plan to hunt for blackberries with a spear made me smile again, just now. :D

Jackie "the Librarian" | 1811 comments Mod
Taunting blackberries are evil!

Yeah, I know what you mean, Bunny. They look so beautiful, but it's just surface beauty. They have to get that film to them first, not be all shiny and bright and attractive.

Soon, I will be dragged to the blueberry fields for hours of picking "fun" with Chris.

Okay, one hour of blueberry picking IS fun, but then I'd like to do something else. Like, say, read a book. Chris, on the other hand, thinks about his blueberry needs for the year, and just keeps going, and going, like a blueberry Energizer Bunny.

at least they are not taunting you by poking you in the eye with their brambles!!

I have taunting blackberries infiltrating my backyard, everywhere we don't cut them back. They are endemic here.
The blueberries are a ten minute drive, or a 20 minute bike ride, come to think of it.

Blackberries: friend and foe! Hah! I'm glad they got your ex, Sarah. He should have listened to you.

And that's a sign, right there, that he was NO GOOD. He didn't listen to the Montambonator. Tsk tsk.

message 40: by Rusty (new)

Rusty (rustyshackleford) My baby is rolling over pretty good now, and every time she does she looks up at you with a big, goofy grin, like she’s saying: “Tah Dah”.

Also, that stinky guy wasn’t on the train today.

message 41: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Awww, Rusty. Your comment about your baby is what cheered me up this morning now. :)

message 42: by Hayley (new)

Hayley | 576 comments my business meeting being cancelled cheered me up today - though I'd got dressed up for nothing - Friday is dress down day and I stuck out like a sore thumb.

For me, it's post mole-removal surgery, Ko. It wasn't a big deal, but I'm a delicate flower, so I'm making as much of it as I can for the sympathy.

Actually, it's a bit of a big deal, because when I think about the stitches, I get queased out for real. I HATE needles, and I can still remember the tugging sensation (it was numb, so no pain though).
:::Ack! Stop thinking about it, Jackie!:::

My arm is starting to be owie again, so it must be time for more Excedrin (and yes, my Excedrin is the generic, fake, cheap kind, too).

You are a delicate flower, too, Ko, and sometimes that means you need a little extra TLC.

I've had more fake Excedrin, and am indulging in real (not diet) Coke, AND peanut M&M's with my afternoon banana, so I'm feeling dandy once again.

I'm feeling like a frazzled flower at the moment. I just went through boxes and boxes of weeds from the branches, full of yucky old dirty books, with worn corners, or crayon marks, or falling out pages, or water-damage. Lots of water-damaged books up here in the Pacific Northwest.

Mixed in with the crud are some books that are in okay condition, but they haven't checked out in a year or two. I look for the ones that might have a bit of life still left in them, and send them to other branches.

For the rest, if they aren't too bad, they get sold at library booksales. The cruddy ones get recycled.

message 49: by Dave (new)
