Hi Ian. I've actually came to the same idea. I've already started looking at perhaps developing some apps for the BN app store as well. Should be interesting to see.

I have a question for the group...So what does it mean for someone to hack into their Nook? What would it let you do differently?

Hi Mack. Since the Nook is Android based, it's an open source operating system. So there are a lot of people going out an changing the Nook up to fit their needs. Examples include, making it run a full Android set up, where you can install apps from the normal Android market (ie running a Kindle app). There's a lot of stuff you can do.
Thing is also that B&N announced that they would open up their own market but we've yet to hear much on it. That could be a good alternative to hacking if you can get the app you want anyway. I guess we'll see...

Hi I am Faith. I just got a Color Nook this week. It is a lot heavier than the other nook.
Can I buy kindle books on the Nook? Do I need to get an extra chip?

Hi Faith. Normally you can't buy Kindle books on the Nook. Just like you can't buy Nook books on Kindle. The books come in different formats. I believe if you hack the Nook to run full Android, install the Kindle app, you then can read Kindle books on the Nook. However, I do not know personally but I'm sure if you Google it you'll come up with something unless someone else can offer more info here.

Hope to get things going on this board so that we can all learn about the great thing the NC is.

Is there a technical section or other blog/users group where questions like this can be answered? I live a distance from the store . . another return will be a pain.
Thanks

Hi Chuck, welcome to the group. If you have questions, create a new post then put it in the General Questions or Technical category and we can try to help there without cluttering up this thread :)

I bought my NC a few months ago and I love it!! I was hesitant on the whole e-reader thing bc I love books (the feel, smell, etc) but I am so happy I bought it. I love it and find myself reading even more.
Excited about this group, maybe I can get some Nook friends now..lol

Name is Mike... this is my second Nook... have have the Nook Color and loving it. Although it has had it's hickups here and there with some Apps issues and some other minor issues, but overall it's been great! Nice to meet everyone and hope to make some great acquaintances here online... :o)~

I got my Nook Color a couple of weeks ago for my birthday - I'm loving it. The only thing I wish it had was 3G - I'm traveling every week for work, and I can't always come up with a decent WiFi connection. I'm thrilled there's a group here for the NC, and I've already picked up some great tips! Thanks!!

Where did you hear about a tech update Dorie? I'm interested as to what is included in it.

Thank you Dorie for the welcome. Um I'm a bit new to the group and was wondering what PM mean?

Hi, I'm Maggie. I've had my ColorNook for a couple of months. Love that the kids can have the Nook read childrens books to them. They love it, too.
I am currently reading Storm of Swords, book 3 in George R.R. Martin's Ice and Fire series. Had I needed to buy and hold the RL book (1000+ pages) I probably would have passed due to arthritis in my hands making it very painful to hold a large book open for any time longer than 5 minutes.
I also own a Kindle and love it, too. The constant clicking needed to turn the page is a little hard on the arthritis at the base of my thumbs, but I can live with it.

My name is Deb and I'm in Oregon.
I'm brand new to GoodReads and I also own a Nook Color and love it!
I haven't actually bought a book yet, between the free books and downloads from my library, I have had plenty to read!
So nice to "meet" other who have the NC :)

I'm Michelle; got my Nook Color for my birthday and I enjoy it, though I do tend to suffer from eye strain. I rotate between actual books and the Nook to reduce my eye strain issues. insane logic but its working for me.
I'm enjoying the apps too.
I also recently discovered you can change the background color..I use the Mocha background which helps a lot :)

I just recently got a Nook Color for Christmas and I adore it. This is my first ereader since I had been skeptical about the whole electronic reading for a long while. After reading about it and going back and forth to B&N scoping it out everytime, I realized all the potential there is to be had in this little machine.
I've read about hacking it but am somewhat a novice when it comes to that sort of thing (read alot about it but haven't taken the plunge yet) so, I'm interested in hearing about other users experiences. I hope this group can turn into a good discussion and resource space for other users. So far I don't know anyone else that owns a Nook Color yet, so... nice to meet you!
