Take Flight

Brigid!! I know a book named Crash...except that it was for 4th graders...so write a better Crash so the name shall be redeemed!!

I posted a Tuesday Teaser on my blog!
(It's from Unraveling.)
And now I'm going to work on writing Rage for about ten minutes, then I'm going to sleep. *yawns*

So, I have one day of school before February break. WOOHOO! I plan to do lots of writing and such, since I have utterly failed at writing lately. I'll probably keep skipping around between Unraveling, Rage, and Sky-Fall ... plus I should be editing Walking Shadow again ... and outlining its potential companion, Sweet Sorrow. Or outlining my third Maxwell Collins book, Crash. Or outlining … a multitude of other things. Urgh.
Heyyyy, Round 2 of ABNA is announced a week from today! *crosses fingers*

I read it :-) Your descriptions are so powerful.
My mind. It is utterly blown.
Good luck with the ABNA as well!

Saaame. Well, I've decided to try to focus on Unraveling over break, since––out of all the novels I'm writing––it's the one that's closest to being finished. And I've been working on it on and off for almost a year now I think, so I should probably get around to ending it ... haha. Good luck with your writing as well! :)

Thank you Maezy! Heh heh ... doing better than last year would mean making the finals. Wow. I think making the semifinals again would be enough. Or even just making the quarterfinals. I have no idea what will happen …

Thank you! :D

Matho: Brother, maybe she's just been busy, resorting to lucubration.
Xanthus: Alright...but I want to see progress! You understand me?

So I posted another teaser on my blog!
Also I did a guest post on my friend's blog about fantasy writing: http://novelideaslifeofateenwriter.wo...
And I'm almost done writing Unraveling! WOOOOT! Plus Round 2 of ABNA is announced in TWO DAYS! AAHH!

I need to go write more of Unraveling now. Al...most... there!

Well, on the bright side, I FINISHED UNRAVELING. OMG. Here be linkage to chapters 25-33: http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/5...
And ABNA IS ANNOUNCED TOMORROOOWWWW!

Also, here is a pretty awesome interview with me about Walking Shadow: http://www.anamardoll.com/2011/03/aut...

My excerpt should be up on Amazon soon! WOOHOO!

So, I'm going to college in 9 days. Eeeek. I guess I never mentioned that after I got into Emerson, I also got into Hampshire which is where I wanted to go in the first place ... and it ended up being way more affordable and such. So, I'm going to Hampshire! Woooo! :) And, since it's more than halfway through the year now, I thought I'd address how my writing goals are going so far.
1. Enter ABNA … again. I have six days to edit 160 more pages of Edge. Woohoo! After that, who knows? Maybe I'll send out queries for it? Depends on how the contest goes and whatnot.
Yup, I did that. As you can see. I made the quarterfinals, but not the semifinals this year. And my review was ... well, kind of horrible. I believe the reviewer called my book "lukewarm and dotted with stock characters", so that made me happy about myself. Wahhh. Well, I kind of expected it, since I edited it so hastily. SEND OUT QUERIES FOR IT? I must have been on drugs when I wrote that. I don't think Edge will ever see the light of day again.
2. Finish editing Walking Shadow (again) and get back to all those agents who asked for revisions … errrm … 5 months ago?
Uhhh, I did that. I think there were three agents who had requested to see revisions. One agent had been all enthusiastic about it and said it had a killer premise and so much potential, and she really wanted to see the revisions, yada yada. So I send her my revised ms and what do I get? ... A form rejection. Not one personal note. At all. Typical.
Another agent ... uh, she just creeped me out and seemed to have a terrible reputation, and she wanted me to cut the ms in half because she thought YA books are supposed to be like 40,000 words long. O_o Ummm. So, I just didn't bother.
And, the third agent never responded. I emailed her. Twice. No luck.
I tried doing more submissions, but it was a fail. I'm still waiting for two responses on partials. One of them I think is just never going to respond to me. It was a 3-chapter request and it's been two months, so. The other one, it's been only a month or so, and it was a half-ms request so I expect it to take longer. Maybe ... *crosses fingers* But at this point, I doubt it. I may just give up on Walking Shadow completely, but I'm not sure yet.
3. Finish writing Unraveling, Rage, and/or Sky-Fall.
Well, I finished writing Unraveling. Gave up on Rage (at least for now). And I'm writing Sky-Fall right now.
4. Possibly start writing Crash … ? I'll have to at least write a chapter or two. I miss Max. <3
Ah ha ha. I don't think this is ever going to happen. Especially since, as I said, I don't think the first book will ever see the light of day again, much less the second one. So, I doubt I'll get around to writing the third. I don't really see the point if the whole series is going to fail utterly. Maybe I'll get back to them eventually, but for now I feel like they're just not working out.
SO, I've actually done most of these things––but even so, they've all resulted in failure. Hmm, that makes me feel a little bit bummed.

Congrats on ABNA, even if those agents were being stupid. If you can't get published, I don't know who else can! You're a super amazing writer :)

Well, thanks. :] I'm glad you think so. Apparently literary agents do not, which is sad. Right now I'm in one of those moods where I'm like, "My writing will never be special enough! Everything's been done before! I hate all my books! Blah blah!" *headdesk* I just need sleep right now...

Well, yeah. I did enter. But it was a total fail. And as August-me said, Edge will probably never see the light of day again. I just kind of write those stories for fun but they're not really any good... I mean, I think I feel a little less hatred toward it, now that I've had much more time to cool off. But, I still doubt it'll ever be good enough or original enough for publication.
Anyway, now I'm preparing for ABNA again. This year I'm entering Unraveling. We'll see how that goes.
2. Finish editing Walking Shadow (again) and get back to all those agents who asked for revisions … errrm … 5 months ago?
Did that. It failed. Those no-response agents I mentioned in August still haven't responded so, I'll take that as a no from them.
The other one, it's been only a month or so, and it was a half-ms request so I expect it to take longer. Maybe ... *crosses fingers*
Yeahhhh. Rejected. Told it was too boring. Same old story.
But at this point, I doubt it. I may just give up on Walking Shadow completely, but I'm not sure yet.
Good idea, Brigid. Good idea. You should go with that. *claps*
3. Finish writing Unraveling, Rage, and/or Sky-Fall.
I only finished Unraveling. And nothing else. Oh, man. This sucks.
4. Possibly start writing Crash … ? I'll have to at least write a chapter or two. I miss Max. <3
LOL I never did that at all. I still miss Max, but... Eh. Like I said before, I don't see much of a future for that series.
Well, looks like I barely did anything this year, writing-wise. But then again, I had college apps and then my first semester of college to deal with, so I was pretty busy. I can't just crank out novels anymore like I used to. I miss being able to do that...
I also started writing a couple of things. Like Sweet Sorrow, and Dancing on Glass. But I've kind of already run out of steam on both of those so. Acck. I kinda failed at writing in 2011.

About me: I'm 18 years old and a senior in high school. Just finished all my college apps––now just to wait for some magical acceptance letters to appear. I'm the oldest of six kids. I read, write, draw, tap dance, and drink coffee.
Last year I made my greatest writing accomplishment ever, when my novel Walking Shadow made the semifinals of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest and received a raving review from Publishers Weekly. (Still blows my mind every time I think about it.)
Ooh! Looky!
I also have a blog, My Life as a Teenage Novelist. :)
So, let's see what tricks I can do this year. Here be my 2011 writing goals:
1. Enter ABNA … again. I have six days to edit 160 more pages of Edge. Woohoo! After that, who knows? Maybe I'll send out queries for it? Depends on how the contest goes and whatnot.
2. Finish editing Walking Shadow (again) and get back to all those agents who asked for revisions … errrm … 5 months ago?
3. Finish writing Unraveling, Rage, and/or Sky-Fall.
4. Possibly start writing Crash … ? I'll have to at least write a chapter or two. I miss Max. <3
I guess that's all I've got for now. I'll edit the list if I think of anything else. :P
