Kerry Has anyone read this one? Without giving anything away, how does it compare to her other books? I loved The Pact, 19 Minutes, Plain Truth, and My Sister's Keeper but disliked The Tenth Circle. Thanks!

Ashley (bookworm84) (bookworm84) I haven't read this one yet but its on my too read list :)

I didn't like the Tenth Circle either. I couldn't finish it.

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) Kerry, I found Second Glance different from her other books because it dealt with ghosts. I really liked it. I wasn't to crazy about 10th Circle, either.

message 5: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I loved Second Glance. It was the first book I read by Jodi and it hooked me completely. I read alot of horror and ghost stories, and she handled this story very well for someone who had never touched the genre before. Don't worry, its not out-and-out horror, but its very believable! Try it!

Jaime | 74 comments I just started reading Second Glance. I really like it so far. It seems to be a really interesting topic. There are a lot of characters. I've only read about 30-40 pages and in little bits. I think I just need to sit down and read a big chunk so that I can get everyone straight!

Anna | 81 comments I enjoyed this book--I liked the past and present alternating of time during the story. I also liked the history lesson. Very different from some of her current books.

Stacey's All Booked (staceysallbooked) I just started reading Second Glance. It is my first Jodi Picoult novel, but hopefully not my last. So far I like it, however, I can see how some people would find it hard to get through the beginning chapters. She has a lot of characters that she introduces in the first chapter alone. I found it was easier to keep up if I wrote a list of all the characters as they were introduced and a brief decription of who they are and how they relate with the other characters. Nerdy I know, but it helps.

I would still recommend it despite this drawback, it is a unique story and I think many would it enjoy it if they would give it a chance.

Jaime | 74 comments The mass introduction of characters is definitely confusing but I think I've got them sorted now! I don't remember having this problem with any other of Picoult's books.

I think the book is really good so far but the supernatural element definitely makes it different from Picoult's other books.

Dara | 145 comments I haven't read Second Glance yet so I don't know about that one, but I like how in most of Jodi's books, or at least the more recent ones (Nineteen Mins, Perfect Match, Change of Heart) how each chapter is devoted to a character from their perspective.

Jaime | 74 comments I finished Second Glance today. It was a page- turner for me throughout the book but I'm not sure what I thought of the ending. I really liked the historical component though!

message 13: by Joanie (new)

Joanie | 23 comments I loved Second Glance-I loved how everything came together. I've always thought it was interesting that this book didn't get more attention-I'm glad it's happening here at least!

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Keep reading the book. Always a twist like her other books. It is a different topic than she usually writes about (I've read about 5 of her books) but also has the usual family, relationships, and controversial edge. In all, I really liked this novel.

message 15: by Jen (new)

Jen (zombietakeover) | 5 comments I loved this book! It was different from her others, but I am a big fan of the horror genre and this was great!

message 16: by Bev (new)

Bev I read Second Glance about two weeks ago (actually, I listened to it on tape) and I found it to be just as compelling as Jodi's other novels, but unique because of the ghost element. There's lots going on in this book, including some disturbing information (based on true facts!) about eugenics right here in the United States. The middle part is in the voice of someone from the past, and you wonder how all of these disparate characters and elements will come together in the end. Definitely do NOT skip this creative and compelling book!

message 17: by April (new)

April (aprilc) | 3 comments I am reading this book right now! It took me a while to get into it, but I love the paranormal element. I think that it was hard to get into in the beginning because of all the different characters and their early introductions (very confusing). But by page 40 or so, I was hooked.

message 18: by Maryann (new)

Maryann (uorgirl) | 3 comments I am new to the group and new to Jodi Picoult's world of novels. I enjoyed this book completely. The introduction of characters was kind of hard at first to get straight, but soon all their lives and personalities helped keep them straight. I hated putting this book down. It was such an incredible story and I look forward to reading all of her books.

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jenipooh722) | 6 comments There are definatley quite a few characters to get through in the beginning of the book. However, once you do, it is an amazing book. I loved the way all of the characters tied together. I would highly recommend this book for anyone to read!

message 20: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicadowell) I have only read a couple of chapters. Im having a hard time understanding whats going on...I'm going to keep pushing through b/c im hoping it will get better.

message 21: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollylu) | 19 comments Jess, it gets better, but it is hard to follow at times. I think she did it that way intentionally because it adds to the mystery of the storyline.

It was not my favorite JP book, but it is good.

message 22: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicadowell) Thanks Holly, I'll probably put it on hold for a while, then maybe start reading it again later. I'm egar to read The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins . It's different than most books I read but a friend recommended it to me & im excited to see what its about.

message 23: by Lindsey (new)

Lindsey (lindseyloo725) | 10 comments This book was very interesting to me. When I met Jodi back in March, she told the audience that this was her favorite book because of the research she got to do before writing this book. She said that she went on a paranormal investigation and they ended up finding pennies sporadically throughout this old house and they were all dated 1932. So, I thought that was a fun fact to know before I started reading.

As a paranormal investigator myself, I loved the ghosties in this book!! :)

TheReadingKnitter/ Kasey (thereadingknitter) I'm reading this book and will hopefully finish it today. It's taken me a while to get through it but it's still be good. Not my favorite of hers but not my least favorite either.

message 25: by Lynne (new)

Lynne | 3 comments I just finished this book and loved it! I love that Jodi does extensive research for her books so that there is truth within her novels. There is always something to learn from her books. I never knew what went on in Vermont in the 30's...it was shocking to hear that this happened here in the U.S. and not all that long ago. This was one of my favorites for sure.

message 26: by Emilee (new)

Emilee Ashline (eashline92) Love this book so far. Everything Jodi writes, she works hard on and produces an A+ novel.
