Katie Russell | 29 comments I agree with Heather it's a book with adult themes but done in a way that kids can enjoy too.

message 3: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I read it a few times when I was young, and again a few years ago. At that time I decided it was cool enough to push on my husband (favorite author: Dean Koontz) and 'tween son. They both enjoyed it, too!

Animals representing human behaviors, but for older readers, was a common strategy a while ago. Think Watership Down which my husband also read & enjoyed a few years ago, after I pushed it on him.

Laura (apenandzen) Wow I need to read this again. I've forgotten it, it's been so many years.

message 6: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) It is interesting to revisit, as an adult. Tricia, I recommend you read it, too. It's short & exciting. :)

Michelle Isenhoff (michelleisenhoff) I read this book for the first time with my kids this winter. We all enjoyed it. And, yes, it's deeper than it first appears.

vicki_girl | 157 comments I loved this book when I was a kid. I read it about a dozen times when I was ~8 to 10 years old. I've never read it as an adult, though. I think I'm definitely over due for a re-read.

I pushed it on my boys (9 and 11) this past year. They both loved it!

The chapter where the rats are at the Boniface house, and Nicodemus reads about the "rat race" has stuck with me and still affects my worldview...:)

message 9: by Jessika (new)

Jessika Hoover (jessalittlebooknerd) I'm so glad I stumbled upon this conversation! This was one of my favorite childhood books. I've read it countless times--even as an adult!

I know that when I have kids someday, I will definitely be reading this to them!

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 14 comments Oh my goodness... I didn't realize this was a book! I remember seeing the animated movie and just love, love, loving it. This is headed straight to my TBR and wist lists.
