Themistocles (gryzor) | 25 comments Hello!

Back in the '90s I had what was, at the time, the only big collection of PKD shorts, aptly titled "The Collected Stories of PKD". This was a multiple volume publication.

At some point I gave it to someone as a present, thinking "I'll buy them again". Well, guess what...

So I wanted to ask if anyone remembers what was the publisher and how many volumes there were (5?). I really want to read them all again, preferably in the edition I had 15 years ago...

Thanks!

Michael | 88 comments I'm guessing you mean these:

The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick 1 Beyond Lies the Wub by Philip K. Dick

The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick 2 Second Variety by Philip K. Dick

The Father-Thing The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick 3 by Philip K. Dick

Minority Report The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick Volume 4 by Philip K. Dick

The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick 5 We Can Remember It for You Wholesale (Paperback) by Philip K. Dick

What a great collection of Dick's short stories.

Simon (friedegg) | 18 comments I've got part five sitting on my shelf which I'm hoping to read shortly. Then I hope to get around to finding the previous volumes.

Themistocles (gryzor) | 25 comments Hm, this doesn't ring a bell :)

Harkonen | 4 comments Yeah there have been a few similar collections out there over the years. Subterranean Press has begun a new series, basically the same contents as The collected stories of PKD in 5 volumes. The first, The king of elves, has 2 additional stories included. Lots of griping about this edition as it isn't laid out as well as prior editions. Plus side is it's available to a generation that hasn't gotten their hands on the previous collections.

look at the comparison of editions section here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliogr...

It shows 3 previous collections of the complete short stories, with Subterranean starting a 4th.

Ahhh thanks... I have now almost completed my PKD collection in English, might as well go for these compilations as well... :)

Simon (friedegg) | 18 comments I'm reading the second volume now: "Second Variety". They're good so far although some of them you can see the twist a mile off...

David Merrill | 14 comments About 20 years ago I ran the 5 volume hard cover set put out by Underwood Miller at a science fiction book/ comic book shop. It had been bought out by someone who only knew comics. The price on it was $125, so I offered him $100 and got it. I think their collections were the basis for the Citadel Twilight paperbacks. They had an awful lot of vintage SF paperbacks and a scattering of hard cover books. I bought a lot of stuff there before the store disappeared.
