How do you feel about City of Bones so far?
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments #1) by Cassandra Clare
Once I got pass the first chapter it was great. I thought it was weird how Luke kept shifting personalities and I didn't really know what to think of him. I have to ask, who do you prefer, Simon or Jace?

i had already read the book like a year ago, and it completely captivated me, it was AWESOME!! ! I do have to say that the third book is the best in the series so far...

Crystal (crystalways) | 305 comments Mod
Yeah the third was definitely the best. Fake Sebastian was my favorite character. I'm really excited about City of Fallen Angels.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

Sebastian was my favorite character as well!! ! Many people told me I was crazy because of that though :)

Crystal (crystalways) | 305 comments Mod
You're not crazy, just everyone else who didn't like Sebastian was crazy.

What did you guys think of Jace? I thought he was kind of pompous at the beginning, but I love him anyway!

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

yeah, at first i thought he was just some completely arrogant guy, but i started to really like his character halfway through the book.

Sarah (sb3626) | 4 comments I LOVED City of Bones it definitely brought me into a different world within our own world if that makes sense and I was so drawn into the concept

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with you Sarah. The concept for it was different than any of the other books that I had reaad before then, and it was completely fantastic :)

Yeah, it's like its own little secret society. I remember I was a little skeptical at first to start reading this book, especially when I saw Stephanie Meyer's review, but in the end, curiosity got the better of me. Let me tell you, it was one of the book choices I had made.

Sporty No1 | 21 comments i love this book more then fallen and hush hush, more excitment, there is more to the book and i like jace more then simon

Which last two? The last two out of the initial first three, or the last two out of the four that are out right now?

city of glass and city of fallen angels.

Brandie (RoxxyReads) (roxxyreads) I loved this book, yet another one I couldn't seem to put down. I did however not expect the twist at the end, but I think it makes it interesting and I can't wait to see where the story goes from here.

Eilish (eilishization) Hi I've just reviewed city of bones on my website :) please check it out :) http://eilishization.weebly.com/index...

this is my review;

Clary Fray is just a typical teenager; clashing with her mother, spending time with her best friend Simon and doing what she loves best- her art. That is until a fateful encounter with an invisible world marks the start of a downward spiral which quickly changes her life to something far from ordinary.

Clary is swept up in the darkly glamorous world of the Shadowhunters, and finds herself intrigued by the self-assured, and very experienced demon killer, Jace. The disappearance of her mother and hinted-at-secrets of an unknown past lead Clary further and further into the dangerous (but exciting) realm of the unknown. With her bestfriend Simon unwittingly along for the ride, Clary uncovers her secret past, an uncomfortable present and a future full of endless possibilities.

From the very first page of City Of Bones I couldn't put it down. Clary's world is one where I would love to spend some time!(as will any other fan of urban fantasy) Clare's work of genius is filled with fantastic characters, most worthy of mention being the arrogantly endearing Jace Wayland, vicious villains and supernatural creatures aplenty. Her concept is a breath of fresh air in the genre and one which I'm glad to have discovered. She spins a thrilling plot filled with shocking twists and just enough humour to leave you wanting more and more even after the last page has been turned.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast paced and exciting paranormal story with eccentric and addictive characters. A fantastic example of everything that is great about the fantasy/YA genre. I for one can't wait to get my hands on the next in the Immortal Instruments series. A thoroughly enchanting read. 10/10

Arushi (arushilisa) i loved city of bones. it was sooooo good and after the ending, although heartbroken, my friends told me to keep reading. i looooved jace and clary together. theyre so cute :D but the third is the best in the series as of now.
the fourth one is coming out sometime in 2012... *sadness* but seriously, the fourth one was SUCH a disappointment. and i no longer pledge loyalty to jace. i still like jace, i just dont love him. not that i want clary to move on or anything. its just that he is no longer like topping my fantasy romance guy list D:
maybe he will in books to come...? by the way, for anyone who HAS read CoFA, the ending was such a cliffhanger. i cant wait for the next book, though i doubt it'll have as much appeal as the first three. i think cassandra clare shouldve just ended the series there to be honest.
trying to prolong it is just a money making scheme, and while most things were tied up, she decides to start CoFA with a new problem altogether. AAAAAAAARGH.

April I just finished the City of Bones a couple of days ago and I really liked it. It was a little confusing at first but the more I got into the more into their world I became. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Aneta Bak I love the Mortal Instruments, and i absolutely adore the City of Bones. This book was really interesting for me, it had tons of action and i loved how the first chapter was just soo intense! it made me want to read more

I know what you mean. The beginning confused me too. I mean the very beginning when Jace, Isabelle, and Alec were fighting that blue (or was it green?) haired demon. All the details made it hard for me to create an image in my head. But the rest, it was awesome.

Tina | 11 comments I thought it was good but I didn't like the part where Jace and Clary find out that they are brother and sister and just so easy embraced it, because early in the book they liked each other in totally different way and they were kissing.I know that if I found that I have a brother and I was in love with him I would flip out. So this just don't work for me.

I didn't think they took it too lightly. Maybe they were flipping out inside and that was just their way of coping.

Asiyah (vvanderess) | 11 comments Loved loved love this book! I fell in love with the first one and I'm happy to say that this is one of the series that didn't get me frustrated because you could tell that the only reason the author wrote more books is because that's what it said in their contract. I have to say though, honestly, after the first three it kind of felt like old problems were being brought up again or new unnecessary ones were being made just to keep the story going. Once I started feeling that way, the author made a prequel series which was incredible. The prequel series made me love the original series even more and forget how dragged out the original was becoming. Now the movie is coming out. So, I'm usually excited when a movie comes out for a book (I've ALREADY read) because I like to be reintroduced to the storyline all over again. But that's the exact thing that disappoints me. Either they mess up the storyline or they insult the image of the character that the reader had. Literally. I mean, has ANYONE seen the actor portraying Jace?! Are the serious? I didn't know if I wanted to scream or cry when they showed him. Clary is...decent although I would've made her hair a brighter red and curlier. Simon, to me, looks like too much like a preppy geek...he's supposed to be a video game geek and so awkward that you can't help but love him. NOT a preppy geek. Magnus is probably the most perfect matchup of actor and book character I've ever seen. As long as they have him with a bunch of weird crazy colored hair and outfits, I'm perfectly happy. The only thing I'm hoping for in the movie now is that they KEEP THE STORYLINE!! (i.e.don't come with your own and put random twists like they did on beautiful creatures...ugh,don't even get me started on that) Overall, I loved this book and it's characters so much. The characters are very well structured and the author makes the world they live in so easy to become a part of and I recommend it to any who asks. Even though this book is classified as romance I recommend it to some boys (those who don't go ewwwwww when a girl starts talking about a guy or vice versa) because the action and demons and swords appeal to them as well. If you're still thinking about reading it, stop thinking and go read it!

Käte Parsons | 9 comments I thought that the book was slow and had a strange ending but the plot wasn't bad

Great review Eilish! :)

Lilly (arlyn85) I finished City of Bones yesterday and I really liked it, but I gotta say I'm kinda ambivalent about Jace and his complete turn-around near the end of the book. I get that he wants his dad to be good and everything, but in essence Jace is good guy, and I don't think he'd be fooled so easily by Valentine.

Other than that, I thought the book was really good. Will definitely be reading the rest of the books.
