While taking a few days off in Brussels, Belgium where I was working at the time, I woke up one otherwise lazy and uneventful morning with a lightbulb blazing in my head. The revolutionary realisation that hit me was: today I can choose to do nothing, or I can choose to do something.
That pedestrian thought assumed a sudden power and urgency that was both frightening and thrilling. It is possible that I took my morning shower that day, but I would be lying if I spoke with certainty on this point. What I do remember is rushing to the Eurostar station, buying a ticket and whizzing through the Channel Tunnel to London, where I purchased my first ever Digital Multitrack Audio Recorder. This purchase forced me onto a new level in my engagement with audio engineering, and I soon found myself taking steps to support and justify the acquisition. These steps, in turn, added up to the emergence of a full-fledged recording studio. As I write today, I own five of those, and people are going there to record their music albums, commercials and audio books.
Tracking the journey that began for me with the flash of commonsense on an ordinary morning slowly congealed into an idea for a book the burden of which would be to elucidate the simple steps by which we can yank dreams and visions from the hoary world of make-believe into the real world of accomplished, productive projects. The book that I wrote illustrates the energizing power of the simple things we can do today, and I wrote it because I wanted to share the insights I gained as I took the small steps that culminated in great achievements.
