Latif was working in the hot plantation, sweat beading down his back. He paused for a moment, and the crack of a whip sounded over his head as a warning. He sighed, and went back to it. He was new here at the plantation. Maham and him had just been bought yesterday.
"They'll go easier on you once they know your a hard worker." A slave about his age said to him. Latif nodded at him. He was in no mood to talk.

Matim stired at the soup some more. her hair stuck to her brow,even though she didn't work out in the fields her job was still hot and tiresome.Her brothers were working out in the fields and her mother was working in the washroom. she sighed as she added more vegetables to the soup.

Latif sighed as they were given a break. He relaxed in the shade by the kitchen. He used his shirt to mop his face, then threw it on the ground beside him. His muscles rippled in the sun. He looked up as a beautiful girl walked out of the kitchen.

Matim grabbed a towel and thew it over her shoulder before putting a small amount of soup into a bowl.
