As far back as I can remember, my mail has always been delivered after 3 p.m., usually between 4-6 p.m. I've lived in various parts of a large city, and I've even had a P.O. Box for a while, and I always get my mail late. Now I'm wondering if anybody gets their mail early.

When does your mailman show up?

Rarely before 3 p.m. I really don't care what time it comes, as long as it all comes. Occasionally my credit card bill or a New Yorker will get .... lost. Or whatever.

We get our mail between 10 and 11-later on Saturday.

We used to be the the third to last house on Dale the Mailman's route, so we often wouldn't get our mail until 4PM or later. He retired and somehow our mail started showing up about 11:30. I think Dale the Mailman hung out in Harry's downtown a lot.

At the office, the mail arrives between 10-11, unless Tommy is doing the delivering, in which case it shows up stuffed through the slot after we close at 4:30.

At home, weekday mail is delivered between 3-4, Saturdays between 10:30-12.

I used to give cookies, too. Then I realized that the week I was giving them out (usually in the last few days before Christmas), my carrier was on vacation & the sub was getting the goodies. He must be high on the seniority list because he has that week off every year.

The PC term is mail carrier, but I answer to hey you, mailman, whatever... when my daughter was little she told people I was a "mailman lady."
A lot of factors determine the time of your mail delivery. Everything in the P.O. is timed. Some of our vehicles have GPS and I have 12 points on my route that I have to scan to track my movements during the day. Can you say BIG BROTHER? This has come in the last 5-6 years along with the mantra to increase productivity. The internet is killing the P.O.
Right after I started my current route, I had 10 blocks added. I had to rework the line of travel to make it more efficient and avoid crossing a major street multiple times. People that used to get their mail early were now at the end of my route. Unhappy campers! But, I explain the best I can and they learn to live with it. People HATE change! Also, if I am working overtime, I usually deliver those blocks first because I am not as familiar with that route and not sure how long it will take to drive to and from that route, where the mailboxes may be, if there are dogs or crackheads wandering around, etc.... A big apartment building may often be delivered at the end of the day because it it usually well lit and out of the weather.
Sorry to say, most cookies usually end up in the break room. Some apartment routes have 1500 deliveries. I have around 400 in a residential neighborhood. That is a lot of cookies, candy, and pounds!

We get our mail around noon. I tried to give our letter carrier a gift certificate one year--he blushed and seemed embarrassed, & hesitated to take it. Petra, what is the suggested limit on gifts for letter carriers now, $25?

A woman in my neighborhood was bitching the other day that since she is the last house on the route, she does not get her mail 'til 5 p.m. For the love of Pete, kwitcherbitchin'.

Petra is one of the unsung heroes of modern life. We sure do take our postal system for granted. It's really very reliable/dependable. But I guess those two words mean pretty much the same thing.

I was under the impression mail carriers couldn't accept gifts? Maybe that's just an urban legend.

I saw our mail carrier today sitting in her vehicle, doing the wordsearch.

The limit is either $20 or $25, LG, with an annual limit of $40 or $50, and gifts are allowed when you have a "professional relationship" with the carrier.

@ Cynthia - In our district, we are allowed to accept non-cash gifts of $20 or less. However, like Las Vegas, what happens between my customers and myself stays between us. ;) I think, like most people, I just want my customers to appreciate the job I do for them every day. Because I take pride in my work and get to know my customers, their families, and their pets, I have a great relationship with my customers.

@LG - I am definitely not sitting in my vehicle reading or doing puzzles. In fact, unlike many people in offices, I am not on FB or GR's while I am on the clock.

Ms. Petra, I would never think you would be doing puzzles on work time.

I know that area well
And I used to go to meetings at the Colo. Dept of Health offices near there.

The office I work out of is right by the Dept. of Health and our two zip codes span Glendale and Denver up to City Park on the North and Cherry Creek on the south, Denver Country Club on the west and Hilltop on the east.

Me, too. I'd invite her in to watch a ballgame and have a beer or six.

My normal mail carrier has been absent. I miss her as she delivers the mail consistently between the times of 11:30 and 12:00, is really sweet and brings any mail addressed to Little right to our door so that she can watch him open it.

My mail was not delivered until 6:45 p.m. the other night!

Aww. that is adorable. You should write a sweet note to the postmaster and tell him/her about your carrier.

What I really wanted to do was leave some mail from Little in our box for our lady.

But I will let the postmaster know how great we think our mail carrier is, too.

Our mail is delivered some time before noon. As I dash by the mailbox on my way to work at 11.30am, I lift the mailbox flap with the tip of my shoe and see what's inside.

The mail at our current condo is not delivered until 4pm at the earliest - 6:30 sometimes is the norm.

I don't think they're very consistent here, but we don't usually check it every day. It's one of those security boxes two houses down. I liked the mail slots in the door we had in England...and I'm lazy.

11:01 am today. I was home and looked out the window at the exact right moment. But I didn't get any mail . . .

My mail is delivered around 2:30. We have a new mailman, after our man of many years retired. I have a problem with his stuffing parcels in the box that are so big that he has to leave the door open and the parcel sticking out. When it rains, everything is soaked. I guess I've been spoiled by the retired guy.

Around 4:00 p.m. Unfortunately, I've never lived anywhere with morning delivery.

About 12pm, Tues Thurs and Sat. NZ Post cut back delivery days for standard post. Junk mail is everyday though.

I actually have no idea. I'm so bad about checking the mail everyday or on time...we have a box that we have to walk to, it's not at the end of the driveway, so I don't always check it everyday. I work a 9-5, so I'm not home when it comes anyway.

11:30 usually. But our current mailman is less than enthusiastic it seems to me and frequently delivers mail to the wrong address, just a piece or two, or sometimes a package. VERY annoying. I have taken to putting the misdelivered mail back in my box with a large note on colored paper saying, for example, 5th time this month misdelivered mail.

It probably doesn't improve my service.

He's the kind that will cram a package into the box so tight it is almost impossible to get out. OR bring a package to the porch but leave the rest of the mail in the box. Our old mailman who retired wasn't like that and I miss SAM.
