So which alpha doesn't warrant all the hype he often gets -- ie everybody and their cousin seems to rave about? If there are enough posts I'll start a poll to see who's the "worst" ;)

Mine are:

Rolfe from Brenda Joyce's THE CONQUEROR
Jamie from Diana Gabaldon's OUTLANDER
Clint from Lora Leigh's DANGEROUS GAMES
Sam from Linda Howard's MR PERFECT

message 2: by Kathrynn (last edited Aug 30, 2008 03:47PM) (new)

Kathrynn I'm going with Jamie. His character wasn't, for me, Alpha material. He was "just" a good 'ole boy from 200 years ago.

message 3: by Kathrynn (last edited Aug 30, 2008 03:48PM) (new)

Kathrynn Hey East, why did the library and grammar group go private?

Dang, I can't type today. Edited for typos.

That's a perfect way to describe Jamie--a good ol' boy!

Don't know why L&G went private--but I asked :D Should get an answer in the Intro/Welcome post.

message 5: by Teryl (new)

Teryl I feel the same Jamie isn't alpha to me. He was in one part in Outlander, but beyond that one scene he isn't. Love him by the way :)

Funny how he usually makes the Top 5 list of best alphas more often than not though...

message 7: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) I think Clint deserves all the hype he gets. That guy was an Uber-Alpha if there ever was one!

message 8: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) | 90 comments I second what Kim said!

Never read Outlander. Not sure if I ever will. There is so much hype over that one and too many conflicting reviews. Plus it is written in first person ...

message 9: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) I have to add Vic Sabian from Wicked Burn. I am in the minority of not falling for that bastard.

message 10: by Auntee (new)

Auntee | 494 comments Okay, that makes you, Laura, and East...there's got to be a few more...:)

message 11: by Miss Kim (new)

Miss Kim (thatsmisskimtoyou) I don't know, there are so many 5 star ratings for this guy!

message 12: by Auntee (new)

Auntee | 494 comments Well, he was too Uber for my tastes, but I did love the book.:)
I don't think too many women would put up with a guy like that in real life, but this is fantasy, so...:D

message 13: by Pamela(AllHoney) (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) I didn't like Clint from Dangerous Games either but I liked the rest of the series.

message 14: by Auntee (new)

Auntee | 494 comments Yeah, Clint definitely rubbed a lot of people the wrong way!

message 15: by new_user (new)

new_user Well, now I'm curious. I have to read Dangerous Games. LOL.

message 16: by Teryl (new)

Teryl I don't remember Clint irritating me too much.

message 17: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
Oooo NU read Dangerous Games and tell me what you think --what an a-hole I thought that guy was (grrr!)

message 18: by new_user (last edited May 28, 2009 04:05PM) (new)

new_user LOL! Well, at least he inspired strong feelings. xD I might as well start the series from the beginning. I kinda jumped into it midway.

message 19: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) | 90 comments East, are you knockin' my main man Clint again?! LOL!!!

NU, make sure you start with Reno's story first. It was part of an anthology. Real Men Do It Better (I believe - it's been awhile!)

message 20: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
Don't tell me you liked Clint Tammy! (lol!)

NU "strong feelings" certainly describes sentiments towards ol' Clint's character (lol!)

message 21: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) | 90 comments Yep! Clint probably came off as a jerk at times and deserved to be smacked around for being overly-protective, but he was manageable. Not the snuggly type, but manageable. And all man. =)

message 22: by new_user (new)

new_user Thanks for the tip, Tammy. :)

message 23: by Auntee (new)

Auntee | 494 comments East, you hate those bossy ones!:)

message 24: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
Oh yeaaah! (lol!)

message 25: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie | 33 comments I am not married to a bossy man so I guess that is why I dont mind the men I read about to be a little on the bossy side.

message 26: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
I don't really mind "normal" bossy, it's the extreme bossy ones that have this "do it because I said so" attitude that drive me crazy 8-)

message 27: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cheryllaflammegmailcom) | 14 comments New_user,

I do not know why I thought you read Dangerous Games. Yes, you need to read it. I have reread it a couple of times. I just love Clint's character. I found my self laughing out loud in a few scenes. I loved Morregana. She was not a weak character. Strong men need strong women to put up with them...

message 28: by new_user (new)

new_user LOL, Cheryl. I've noticed the women are stronger in that series. I can't say I dearly loved the heroine from Killer Secrets, but I might like Morregana better.

message 29: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cheryllaflammegmailcom) | 14 comments new_user
I think you will love her. I laugh now just thinking of a few of her scenes, which were not suppose to be funny per se.. let me know what you think of her.

message 30: by new_user (new)

new_user Will do. ;)

message 31: by Crystal (new)

Crystal | 16 comments East, it's funny because in real life I can't STAND bossy men. Try to tell me to "do it because I said so" and watch what happens. lol But for some reason, I LOVE the bossy heroes. Even the extreme bossy ones. Weird, right? Now, with that said, I'll have to check out this Clint guy you girls are talking about. lol

message 32: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cheryllaflammegmailcom) | 14 comments Oh!! I think you will love him!! I do enjoy the interaction between Morregana and him and also her interaction with his friends.. A couple of scenes I was laughing so hard I had to put the book down and my daughter looked at me like I was just strange. I tried to explain what was so funny and all I can say is it is not the same as reading up to the point. It took me a while before I could start again without tears coming to my eyes. Lora Leigh does have a sense of humor. I always enjoy that in a book.I cannot be the only one who saw humor in Morregana. I really enjoyed her.

message 33: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (tammymerlot) | 90 comments I love it! Another person pimping Clint in Dangerous Games. Look what you started East! =)~

Lora Leigh definitely writes a strong alpha female.

message 34: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
LOL!

message 35: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
Yeah, that wasn't a favourite of mine either Glitter Baby. Several readers rave about Sam too.

message 36: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
Right now it's Wraithe from Larissa Ione's Passion Unleashed. He's too much of an "in your face" big and brash alpha. I didn't like him.

Passion Unleashed (Demonica, #3) by Larissa Ione

message 37: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (creeker) Derek Craven from Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas. I just didn't get it. I absolutely loved Clint from Dangerous Games by the way.

message 38: by Pamela(AllHoney) (new)

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) Creeker wrote: "Derek Craven from Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas. I just didn't get it. I absolutely loved Clint from Dangerous Games by the way."

lol, I'm the opposite. I loved Derek but hated Clint.

message 39: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
Agnes, a lot of readers love Derek but I preferred Alex from Then Came You in the Gamblers series. As for Clint (**shudder shudder**) god I hate that guy (lol!) His dumb-ass bossiness just sent me over the edge (lol!) and I like a good uber but a classy one like Anne Stuart's Ice heroes :D

message 40: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
LOL Agnes! Taka was my least favourite Ice man! You must really like them extra uber then ;) Have you read Behind Closed Doors by Shannon McKenna? That's another psycho I didn't like ;)

Behind Closed Doors (McClouds & Friends, #1) by Shannon McKenna

Killian I think his name was in Isobel's story --I thought he was really mean ;)

Good luck with McKenna. It's a really big series too.

Auntee, Seth is an ASS! Just a step below Clint but an ass nonetheless :D Btw him and that TSTL broad in the story it was a wonder I made it through the book 8-)

message 44: by Auntee (new)

Auntee | 494 comments LOL, I didn't know you read that book! I guess you stopped the series after that one?

I totally agree I would prefer Alex , also liked the book Then Came You better than Dreaming of You.

message 46: by Eastofoz (new)

Eastofoz | 666 comments Mod
Auntee, oh yeah I stopped that series fast and thank god too! Way too many to buy (lol!)

Creeker, Then Came You is one of my favourite Kleypas books :)

Blasphemy!!! How dare you compare stalkerific Seth to Clint the Neanderthal? They're completely different, LOL.

OMG Dina you've got to be kidding! They're practically twins or cousins with their prick like attitudes! (lol!)

message 50: by Dina (new)

Dina (missdina) | 170 comments Oh yes, Auntee! The minute someone speaks ill of Seth, they're in big, big trouble! ;) I'm just glad East never got to know Connor. If she bashed him, I'll be on the 1st plane to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to teach her some good manners, LOL.

East, do not mess with me! LMAO
