Nicolle Buddy reads have been requested, and I think it is a great idea. Whether you have just gotten hold of a book or are desperate to read a book at a particular time, feel free to make a buddy read and add it to the Buddy Reads folder with the title and author as the topic heading. If the book is established as a future group read, I would appreciate it if you waited and read it with the group!

Feel free to discuss any reads ect...

Martha (marthas48) A few?!?! You've got to be kidding!! LOL I'm going to read Treasure Island for Halloween. A GR friend's comment to me was "Nothing says Halloween like pirates!"

I would love to read Persuasion with you, but maybe later ... August perhaps. Have so many going now, don't know how I'll finish them all.

message 4: by Nicolle (last edited Jul 10, 2011 04:51AM) (new)

Nicolle I am basically just reading, eating and sleeping as I am on my summer holiday till beginning of september! I have nearly 3 months of free time, though I am doing some work experience this week and next buyt that's it really.

OK, I will probably hold back persuasion till August but I'll read Treasure Island soon as it is from the library and I expect they will want it back!

message 5: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) :-) I downloaded free copies of Treasure Island (2 b/c the first was a kid's version & I didn't realize it). I own nice copies of most of the Austen books. I did hope to get to Persuasion this year so this will help me stay on track. It is so much more fun to read with friends. Let me know how you like Treasure Island.

message 6: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle It is more fun to read with friends!

I will let you know probably in a few weeks...

Nicolle Desiree wrote: "Uh I'm sorry what exactly is buddy read? The way I see it, reading with a friend? In this case, an online friend? Sending messages to talk about the book that has been read together?"

Basically a topic will be made like in the group reads and you read a book with two or more people from this group. It is basically a read which is not one of our official monthly group reads.

message 8: by Uday (new)

Uday Desai (udaydesai) | 8 comments I would like to read Persuasion, David Copperfield, The Color Purple, For Whom The Bell Tolls OR Wuthering Heights.

But I am very slow reader, so I may want to go with really a slow pace.

Let me know Nicolle, what you think.

kwesi 章英狮 (kwesifriends) | 138 comments Hi Nicolle, I love your buddy reads idea. I'm interested in reading The Lost World, Treasure Island and Wuthering Heights, let me know when are you going to start reading those books.

Susan O (sozmore) Courtney - I think you like the little house books :-) I agree they never get old. I read them every couple of years too. Usually when it starts to get cold and I smell wood smoke in the air.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
Desiree, I have S&S on my reading list, but I don't think I'll get to it this year.

message 37: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) Me, neither! Wish I had the time, but maybe next year.

message 38: by The Pirate Ghost (last edited Sep 15, 2011 03:32PM) (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) I'm wanting to try Edgar Rice Burroughs, The Lost Continent after "The Lost world" starts to fade, but no so long I can't get the chance to compare the two.

message 39: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) So, if The Woman in Black: A Ghost Story doesn't win for the group read, anyone want to read it with me?!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
If I can get a copy, Jill. I'd love to join you. When were you thinking of reading it?

message 41: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Sometime in October? I've finished the Hobbit, and am Buddy Reading Frankenstein starting October 1...but I think I could do both. Want to start around the 15th?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 614 comments Mod
I don't think I can do it this month. But I will jump in and talk about it when I read it.

message 43: by Jill (new)

Jill (jillelise) Okay, we can do November if that works better? I'll start a new thread for it and we can decide!

message 44: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthas48) I would like to read it, but October is pretty full for me, too. Is it available as a free download? I'll have to check it out.
