Here is a short blurb about the book:

They don't call him Jackpot for nothing.

All his life Jack has beat the odds... at least until now. When a werewolf tried to kill him, vampires saved him. When he got tired of living as a vampire, another attack returned his mortality. Now he just wants to be normal, but what's normal about a hunter girlfriend, a brother who wants to stake him to be on the safe side, and a homicidal werewolf raising an army to rule the world?

message 7: by Kasi (new)

Kasi Blake (kcblake) | 24 comments I can't wait to read the reviews either.

No, this is not my first book, but it is my first ebook, and it is my first YA Urban Fantasy. I used to be a writer for Harlequin, but I always loved YA so I decided to give up the 'for sure' paycheck and try to follow my dream.

Hope you all enjoy it.

message 8: by Cambria (new)

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Congratulations on following your dream, I hope you get everything out of it and more! Dreams can be pesky sometimes, eh? At least mine is(ah, the things we will do to get our dreams)...but it is the driving force behind everything I do. and I wouldn't have it any other way.
So how was it writing for Harlequin? I bet it was a great experience.

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments You know...the lure of the werewolf if just too good....can I review it too??

message 10: by Kasi (new)

Kasi Blake (kcblake) | 24 comments Writing for Harlequin was an experience to be sure. They changed the title of my first book and almost everything else about my second. My editor was telling me to do one thing while the senior editor was telling her she wanted something else. Then I got the flack from the senior editor over not doing things the way she wanted it done, and I had to keep my mouth shut. I couldn't point the finger at my editor or she'd be mad. Anyway, it taught me a lot about the business, but I will never go back.

I wonder why they were being so horrible to you K.C., that would be a terrible thing to have to deal with! Just remember, there are publishing houses out there who do respect the author's work, and although sometimes things do need to be changed, your work should still be YOUR work, and the right publishing house will respect that.

Kasi Blake (kcblake) | 24 comments I know every writer with Harlequin didn't have the same bad experience, and I know other houses aren't like that, but I still like the whole Indie-Writer thing, and I think I'll stick with it even if a house offers me a huge advance like they offered to Amanda Hocking. I'm kind of a control freak anyway. lol

Wow K.C. what an ordeal that must have been. I can only imagine how I would feel if the editors and people were trying to change my hard work like that. I can understand the reasons that Indie publishing is definitely a good choice for you. And I know that you must really have had a bad experience b/c I can't imagine turning down the kind of money that I heard amanda hocking was offered......well unless they asked me to sign away my rights to my characters....that is a big NO NO in my book. :)

message 14: by Kasi (new)

Kasi Blake (kcblake) | 24 comments The worst thing about publishing with Harlequin is that the second book doesn't even feel like mine. They changed everything: the main character's name, got rid of her family, moved her house to out in the middle of nowhere. The editor had a vision of it being gothic, so that's what we went with. At least my first book only got the name changed, but I cringe every time I have to tell someone what it was called. I hated it that much.

Cambria (cambria409) | 3305 comments Wow. How awful to have that little control...I think it might be every writers worst nightmare.

That would be horrible, since when does the editor get to say what the vision of the book is?? YIKES!! I thought the vision was the author's!! I'm so sorry KC!! That is awful!!

message 17: by Kasi (new)

Kasi Blake (kcblake) | 24 comments Thanks, but it was probably for the best. I'm glad that I'm writing YA Urban Fantasy now. It was always my dream. Even if I don't sell thousands, hopefully I can scratch up a living doing it.

Jenn (bookishevents) Do you have anything to do with the formatting of your book? I mean I know you wouldn't if it were printed, but I didn't know if maybe with a small ebook company you might. The reason I ask is because I just finished reading your book on my ipod and while this isn't the first book I've read on the ipod, it the first I've had issues with. For example anytime my hand hit near the bottom of a page it returned me to the cover of the book and page one which is a little frustrated when you're on page 800. Then I'd have the use the table of contents which doesn't include the chapter titles and guess where I was at until I found my way back. Additionally there are 4 blank pages between chapters and 2 between where it gives the chapter number and when you get to the actual words. So basically you have to page though 6 blank pages to get to the next section of writing. I downloaded the epub version if that help any and if you can get someone to fix it for other readers. I mean in your shoes I'd want to contact someone to have it fixed. When someone's frustrated about having to page so much to find words or keeps getting flipped back to page 1 in the middle of a sentence their irritation might color their view of your story. That said I'm waiting a little bit and mulling it over before I write my review because I don't want my irritation at the book going haywire on me to color my review of your work.
