Ok loyal members. The poll to cast your vote for the October group read has been created. If you scroll all the way down to the bottom of the TNBBC homepage, you will see it!!

Let me know what you think of it, and if you think we should use this method going foward. It should be much easier for me this way, thats for sure!

DO NOT CAST A VOTE HERE. anything you post here WILL NOT BE COUNTED towards the group read.

I left it open until Sunday. Monday I will post the winners!

Thanks everyone!

silvia | 282 comments whit so many nominees its a pitty we cant cast 2 votes. lol

I voted for the book I nominated, but I'm not expecting that one to be picked... well I'll just waite to see what comes out of it and if i'll join in or not

message 3: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments If it's really close maybe we can have run-off voting?

message 4: by Nawar (new)

Nawar (nawaralq) | 199 comments I hope everyone actually votes, there's only 17 so far.
I don't know if there is a "message all members" feature, but if there is maybe you should send everyone a little notice.

message 5: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments Earrings, trust me, we never have a problem getting enough votes. They'll show up. They always do.

message 6: by Joanie (new)

Joanie | 714 comments Are we going to read the top two or are we doing three again this month? (God help me if we're doing three!)

message 7: by Jen (new)

Jen | 278 comments Yay! My two favorites are in the lead. It was tough to pick between the two.

message 8: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Joanie, only two.
But I like Logans idea. If there are clear front runners, since we will have some time before October is actually upon us, maybe we can cast a second vote/poll for the top 5 books, this way everyone still has a chance to change the top two?

message 9: by Angela (new)

Angela | 1934 comments I like that idea Lori...

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 1736 comments Given the theme, do you mean H. G. Wells' "The Invisible Man," which would fit, or Harlan Ellison's "Invisible Man," which I believe is about being black in America?

message 11: by Sherry (new)

Sherry I really like this way of doing the voting.I hope it works out.

It was really hard to choose just one. There's so many good choices this month!

message 12: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 1000 comments I too like the idea about another poll with just the top 5 books after the initial round of voting.

message 13: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments I voted. Ya'll just tell me what to read, and I'll read it. So far, I have not been let down. Thank you, everyone.

message 14: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Susanna, I only copy and pasted what was nominated. So Im guessing that was the one they wanted. I could go back and ask, but its already voting time....???

message 15: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 382 comments I'm headed to vote now.

I also like the idea of voting again with the top five.

message 16: by Allison (new)

Allison (sockweasel) | 432 comments Thanks Lori, that's a good way to do it! :)

message 17: by Chloe (last edited Sep 17, 2008 12:56PM) (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments There are so many Ellison's in writing that even Susanna, who spied the problem in the first place, didn't get the right one (Harlan Ellison is a Sci-Fi writer).

So we have The Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, which deals with being black in America, or we have the classic Invisible Man by H.G. Wells, which is probably what Andrew was thinking of when he nominated it.

Wow. I just put a lot of thought into a nomination that hasn't received a single vote yet. I feel silly.

message 18: by Ann from S.C. (new)

Ann from S.C. | 1395 comments No Logan, you just care.

message 21: by Katie (new)

Katie (hockeygoddess) | 257 comments Kellie -- How funny, I'm the reverse (voted for HofL, but would enjoy HSB too!)

message 22: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments I signed up for a bookring for Heart Shaped Box (after Lori raved about it) and it should be coming any week now.
That's why I voted for it.
Everyone has been talking about House of Leaves and I think I'd enjoy it.

message 23: by Kellie (new)

Kellie (acountkel) | 992 comments Sorry...
I have one more thing to say.
I love this voting thing!!
It's so cool!

message 24: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) I voted!

message 25: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Wow. Two whole days in and only 68 people voted? By this time last month, we had sooooo many I wouldnt be able to keep track .

Vote People. Vote!

message 26: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Do what she says people, DO IT!!

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

This is great! Lori it will be so much easier for you! Yeah! :)

I don't know how you did it last month but Kudos!

message 28: by silvia (new)

silvia | 282 comments I've already read dracula and not very convinced about the house of leaves. I've read bought good and bad reviews, my curios, but I'll what to see your opinion before jumping to it... but I did pick a copy of heart shaped box at bookmooch ;)

message 29: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Hey Lori, a quick question:

Are we allowed to recommend books ourselves, or just vote? I'm not always quite clear how these lists work, and I don't want to spam anyone.

BTW, many thanks for this great group! I wish I could spend hours and hours with it.

Doni Tamblyn

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Doni, once a month we each get to make a nomination for what will be voted on. This months nomination window closed a few days ago. Now we are onto voting.

At any time, people are allowed to discuss books they have read that they feel others will enjoy.... but PLEASE be careful if you are thinking about recommending your own novel here. We are very wary of authors who spam thier novels to us.

If you read the discussion folders farther down the group site, you will see a section where members can "plug" thier own work/site in a sense, but in order to do that, the person must be an active member in the group... participating in the threads, getting to know us.... We dont like when someone pops in just to shoot off an email about thier book and then vanishes.... That is where the Spammers Circle In Hell comes in :)

message 31: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Hey, if the voting doesnt change much, and Dracula and House of Leaves stay this far ahead in the race, perhaps we wont need a top 5 revote??? They are clearly the leaders right now. No other book is even CLOSE>.....

Unless people get out there and start voting!!!

message 32: by Chloe (new)

Chloe (countessofblooms) | 1128 comments I think you're right, Lori. Run-off voting is only really useful if the voting is really close.

message 33: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Yeah, I saw that, hee hee! Wish there was a REAL Spammers Circle in Hell.

Hey, then again, maybe there is.

message 34: by Donitello (new)

Donitello Oh by the way -- I wasn't interested in discussing my books (they're non-fiction business books, and not appropriate for this group), but the novel of someone I know. I just adore it. I've reviewed it on my profile page, but would like to do more, as it's a debut fiction that needs (and deserves) all the help it can get.

message 35: by Kirsty (last edited Sep 18, 2008 10:22AM) (new)

Kirsty (kirstyreadsandcreates) | 610 comments Can I make a suggestion for next month? That we maybe only go to poll with the first 10/15 nominations? I just think that there are too many this time. It's all trial and error with these poll things.

Just an idea :)

message 36: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Certainly Kirsty, I can take that into consideration next time!

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

It'd be like first come first serve.

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Oh Logan, and Susanna, I emailed Andrew to clarify which author he meant when he nominated Invisible Man and he replied that he did mean the one he posted. He did not mean Wells.

Just wanted to let you know I looked into it for you. After all that research you did :)

message 39: by Krista (new)

Krista (findyourshimmy) | 382 comments Just picked up my copy of House of Leaves, just in case. It looks like it will be a doozy. I already own Dracula and wouldn't mind a re-read of it. Also hoping to pick up Heart Shaped Box on my way home from work. So much book goodness!

message 40: by Sera (last edited Sep 18, 2008 04:24PM) (new)

Sera Lori, excellent idea! You rock.

I intend to read both Dracula and House of Leaves next month so it looks like I'm in good shape. Also, I have been wanting to read The Heart Shaped Box so if that one makes a late surge, it looks like I'm still set.

Oh, and I did vote!

No matter what wins, I planned on hitting Dracula, Frankenstein, Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde..... all for October due to the awesome halloween theme....

THen whichever wins will be added to the pile :)

message 42: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments I might read Dracula, and I will probably read Frankenstein, if I can ever pull myself away from my bookshelf.

message 43: by Lori, Super Mod (new)

Lori (tnbbc) | 10620 comments Mod
Haa haa Emma... If you decide to read them (if Dracula doesnt win) let me know, we can always try to read them together!

message 44: by Emma (new)

Emma Blue (litlover) | 2389 comments Sounds good, that'll give me more motivation! :)

message 45: by Andrew (new)

Andrew (sir_reads_a_lot) | 509 comments Frankienstien is one of my all time favorite reads, the old english version! It is amazing.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

both Frankenstien & Dracula are wonderful books. Though I have read them both more than three times.

message 47: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) I voted. My choice is way down on the list, but I'd be excited to read any book I haven't already read. I get so many wonderful suggestions from my fellow Goodreaders.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd never even considered reading Frankenstein. I guess I will have to now with so many good recommendations.

message 49: by Joanie (new)

Joanie | 714 comments Dracula and Frankenstein are the October books for the Rory Gilmore book club and I got both volumes in one off of paperback swap-I'm so excited! I'm really looking forward to the Halloween themed reads.

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Should be fun!
