message 11: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccabeccabooklover) I've read The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, The Children of Húrin, Unfinished Tales, Tales from the Perilous Realm (Farmer Giles of Ham, Smith of Wootton Major, Leaf by Niggle and The Adventures of Tom Bombadil). I've also read J.R.R. Tolkien: A Biography which is of course not one of his books but is so interesting. I've also read Tolkien: The Illustrated Encyclopedia which I LOVE and any complete Tolkien nut like me should definitely get this!
On my bookshelf at home though I have quite a few of the histories of middle earth from volumes 1-8 so got a few more to get to complete my collection :) I've also got The Atlas of Middle-Earth which I've had a peek at but haven't read it thoroughly yet :)

So as you can tell....I'm obsessed with Tolkien haha.

message 13: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccabeccabooklover) I am planning to read them...someday! I started to read the first one but knew that it would take me ages as it hasnt the flow of a story, but gave up when I wanted to read something else!

message 14: by Christy (new)

Christy (authorchristygthomas) | 1 comments The Hobbit & Lord of the Rings. Part way through The Silmarillion! I plan on reading more once I finish what I'm on. . . duhhhh. :)

The Silmarillion was amazing. I read it in seventh grade, but since I'm older now and I know things, it should make more sense when I read it again...

message 17: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccabeccabooklover) I read The Silmarillion when I was younger too, got half way and didn't understand alot of what was going on. But I read it a year ago and loved it. It is a book that needs to be read again but also needs a more mature outlook whilst reading it as the way its written is alot different to The Hobbit or LOTR

message 18: by Connor, LOTR EPICNESS!!!!!!!!!!! (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 147 comments Mod

message 20: by Connor, LOTR EPICNESS!!!!!!!!!!! (new)

Connor Kinkade (connork) | 147 comments Mod
You need to read all of The Hobbit. That just takes a day or two to read.

message 21: by Marika (new)

Marika | 10 comments Ok. But I'm too lazy.

message 22: by Melanie (new)

Melanie The Silmarillion, The Children of Hurin, The Hobbit, LOTR, Unfinished Tales and Smith/Farmer Giles (Tales from the Perilous Realm). And I want to read the histories at some point.

Agree with you about the Silmarillion, Becca. First time I read it I was like 14/15 and really struggled getting through it. Re-read it twice since then and enjoyed it more each time.

message 28: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccabeccabooklover) Hi Jonathan. I'm planning on re-reading all the books this year sometime too but I've decided that everytime I re-read them now it will be in order so will take me a while haha. What other fantasy series do you enjoy? I love fantasy novels and would like some ideas :)

You could join my Sci-fi fantasy group. We have done so much reading. I haven't been active lately though. I've kinda turned it over to Jonathan and Xdyj. Xdyj isn't in this group so you probably wouldn't know him.

I have never come across that one. Translation of the Morte d'Arthur (etc) or a Tolkien penned Middle English version of the story?

message 45: by Anastasia (new)

Anastasia aka Taurendil (theanastasia) I've read The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, all books. Once I started Silmarillion but didn't get far. I will definitely read it still! And I'm planning to read The Hobbit again soon...

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

i'm always reading the silmarillion, that is just such a long winded book. i really didn't think about how many book's of tales of middle earth there are. but before i die i hope to read them all, but sadly like most only The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy.

Now I've also read Tales from the Perilous Realm and am going through Quenta Silmarillion. Not really a book, or even by Tolkien, but I started a Quenya Course last year which I didn't get far with but which I'm going to finish during the next months.
