I first watched The Door in the Floor about 2 years ago, and loved the movie. When I found out it was based on one of John Irving's novels, I had to read it.
It's a 600 page book, and I'm only 1/3 done (the first 200 pages is the movie), and it's amazing how much the movie stays true to the book! Right down to the dialogue! The main difference is the time/years -- the book takes place in the late 50s, whereas the movie is current (late 90s/early 2000).
I can't wait to finish it and see how it turns out. But it's so refreshing to read a book where the movie has stayed so true to the original story.
