So I noticed that on another topic the discussion point had completely changed to be on about Murtagh and Thorn so I have made this page for everyone to talk about their thoughts on these characters.

(Does anyone know how to make a folder for characters because then we could have a proper area for each one if need be.)

Rohan | 88 comments did thorn actually hatch for murtaugh or was that just dark magic from galbatroix? not too sure if thorn naturally hatched for him.

when they're fighting in Eldest Murtagh says that Thorn hatched for him, but Murtagh could have been made to say that if Thorn had hatched through dark magic, it wouldnt surprise me cos of how Thorn has had magic to make him grow faster.

Rohan | 88 comments exactly what i was thinking. if galbatroix could accelerate thorn's growth to suit his needs then he could easily hatched thorn with dark magic. He had already done so with Shruikan so we know he has done it in the past. Plus thorn seemed sad and alienated when paolini described his eyes almost as if the dragon didnt know how he had got here. and plus oromis mentioned that if you gave a thing its attributes through magic rather than on its own discovery and practise that thing would not have gained any lessons as to how it reached there. and it would effectively mean that the thing( lets say Thorn) would be a child trapped in a older beings body.

Nüll (westmoure) | 7 comments So if thorn is a product of dark magic than is there a chance he might rebel???

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

i guess he could but galnaorix knows his true name and its supposed to take awhile for it to change isn't it? so galbatorix would be able to stop him

message 7: by Rohan (new)

Rohan | 88 comments and also apparently Galbatroix would be alerted if Thorn's true name were to change, so the chances of Thorn rebelling are slim but as brom and oromis said dragons are capable of doing the most unexpected things in certain situations. So Thorn could do something really magical and he may no longer be galbatroix's liege.

Lauren (laurielou1121) | 26 comments murtaugh is my favorite character. so i'm hoping that he and Thorn change their true names, steal the last dragon egg from Galbatoix and deliever it to the varden. and then Eragon and Saphira can kick Galbatroix's ass.

message 9: by Rohan (new)

Rohan | 88 comments that would be so cool! I always wanted to like murtaugh and maybe he will redeem by getting the last egg. But realistically speaking Murtaugh hated the Varden so he might not be too keen to give the egg to the Varden. but hey if we can change his name then maybe he can also change his attitude towards the Varden

Nüll (westmoure) | 7 comments He never hated the Varden he hated his father !

Nüll (westmoure) | 7 comments and his reputation.... as the son of Morzan..

message 12: by Rohan (new)

Rohan | 88 comments so maybe hate was a harsh word but he there was dislike and yes it was not helped by him being Morzan's son. But there was no love lost between Murtaugh and the Varden.

message 13: by Rohan (new)

Rohan | 88 comments nah, that isnt possible as dragons are hardwired in such a way that they only hatch after finding their perfect match. you may be able to destroy the egg but then you would lose the dragon as well but from what Paolini has stated a dragon without a rider will die as the dragon cant live in the loneliness (not anymore anyways).

Michael (kovaelin) | 2 comments Wasn't there something earlier on, explaining how dragons can wait for hatching? I'm also certain that dragons do not require Riders in order to hatch; there are feral dragons afterall.

Actually the riders cast a spell so that the dragon only hatched when he or she thought that they had found a right match. Without the perfect match a dragon could stay in their egg for pretty much eternity without ever hatching!
