Hello, I'm Hugh. I'm currently reading "Event," by David L. Golemon and James Rollins "Sigma Force" Series. I just hope I'm a smart guy.

Hi, I'm Danielle. I am a bookaholic, and a Goodreadsaholic. I read a lot of genres, but I admit I love a good action book. My favorite action authors are Matt Reilly and Lee Child. Although urban fantasy, Ilona Andrews writes some really great action scenes.

It was actually Hugh's idea to start the group. Great idea Hugh.

Aw...shucks! thank you Danielle. I also enjoy a good Clive Cussler story now and then. I'm glad there's a group for action adventure now. Suspense/Thriller doesn't quite cover the genre anymore.

Alice (nationofcrumb) | 297 comments Hey there, I'm Alice. Lady D has great taste- John Maxim, Matt Reilly and Lee Child are some of my favorite authors. I also enjoy James Rollins, Ted Bell and Douglas Preston.

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) I am Alex. I read mainly fantasy and YA novels, but I always enjoy a good action novel. This summer I discovered James Rollins and I am enthralled. I also like Matthew Reilley and Lincoln Child.

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) Hi, Danielle! It seems that our taste in literature is kinda similar. Hugh, thanks for the warm welcome. I am sure that you will like Mathew. Start with "The Contest"- awesome standalone action novel.

Eileen Hi, I'm Eileen. Thanks for the invite. Great idea for a group. I enjoy reading just about anything as long as there's some action. Just finished reading Hounded and already got the next two in the series in my tbr list, which gets longer everyday.

Now you got me thinking, Hugh. I like alot of Urban Fantasy because of the action. One of my favorites is The Ghost Walker series by Christine Feehan. Always looking for new suggestions on good action books. One I'm hoping to read soon is For Nothing.

I'm working on Event and enjoying it. Not sure about a thumbs up or down, but it's kind of ... Je ne ce pas? ... cleanly written... polished ... I like it. And I'm a huge fan of James Rollins and James Stewart (The James Boys)... Patric Bowers Files and Sigma Force. Good reads.

I love the GhostWalkers, Eileen. We will be friends forever now! I'm rereading Ruthless Game on audiobook right now. I love how scary Javier is. I can't wait to read his book. The action is awesome in this series.

Hi, many of you have already met me...others, well I'm not as unbalanced as I may seem at first. (Of course, if I was, would I know it? oh well.)

I enjoy A/A reads and of course Fantasy, Science Fiction and their sub-genres. There is a lot of cross over here and there. I'm reading (though it had to go on the proverbial "back burner" as I finish some library books) Hard Magic right now which could be said to straddle the line A/A-UF. I just got Monster Hunter Alpha and Chimera both of which will fit the same description. I'm a fan of Jim Butcher's Harry Dresden, a couple of Rob Thurman's series, the Repairman Jack books. I also like techno thrillers (Tom Clancy, Larry Bond, [some] Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Robert Ludlum [that is actually Robert Ludlum], Harold Coyle, David Morrell and others).

Looking forward to adding thousands and thousands more books to the multiple thousands I already have waiting to be read...of which i hope to actually read a large portion. LOL

At this time I'm also reading some nonfiction...but I won't belabor that. :)

Welcom Mike. Glad to see you here. I'm on board with Robert Ludlum, I like the Covert One series but the best Ludlum is The Holcroft Covenant, The Parsifal Mosaic and things from that era.

MIKE....I MEAN I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN....

Sorry about that, he's a little finicky right now, had to get control of the house locks away from him, sheesh.

For a while (especially back in the '80s) I was on a Ludlum quest almost. I actually think I like The Bourne Identity most (thus I hate the recent movie which completely rewrote the plot and changed the book to the point it was unrecognizable). The earlier miniseries with Richard Chamberlain was pretty good.

I forgot to mention Frederick Forsyth, I just gave myself 5 demerits for that.

The Movie for the Holcroft Covenant re-wrote everything so much I wanted to barf too. The book was super good. Tense... exciting. The movie? Well lets just say this was after Micheal Caine's prime (Though I liked him in the Fourth Protocol).

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I hate intros...

I know most of you, I think, so I'll be brief. I wasn't originally going to join this group because I don't actually read a lot of non-fantasy action-adventure; however, I do watch a lot of AA movies... and I was invited... so here I am.

Hi.

Lee | 55 comments Hi folks, know most of ya already. Hugh, seen you lately on HA.
You guys have covered the big boys of action already, that I enjoy also.

Darth, I agree Reilly's "Contest" is a very fun read. His Schofield series is non-stop action.
Preston & Child, haven't written a bad one yet.

Laurel Hello all,

I'm a pretty big fantasy / sci fi bookaholic, but I also read a fair bit of murder mysteries and action adventure. I love the Jack Ryan series by Tom Clancy, (books and films)! I read Robert B. Parker as well.

I spend a fair bit of time on Goodreads, so I already know (and adore) many of you. And, I've already added a ton of your recommendations within the group threads to my wish list. Matthew Reilly looks especially promising!

message 47: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Michael | 449 comments I've read since I was 4 or 5 years old and over the years, some of almost everything. With limited bookshelf space, I actually own only those books that I enjoy re-reading, but those seem to encompass everything from many of the Louis L'Amour westerns, through some of the Georgette Heyer period romances, lots of fantasy, science fiction and mystery ... and a some action/adventure.

I have to admit both of the authors I enjoy the most are deceased now, Alastair MacLean and Desmond Bagley. I've read some of the Clive Cussler books as well as a few others and I suspect some of the mysteries I have tend to overlap into this category as well.

Will definitely look forward to new authors to try, have two on my list for the next library trip now.

Hey, Sharon. I'm glad to see you here. Guess what. The Enemy is one of my all time favorate Espionage books, (even with my decided love of Robert Ludlum's work). Welcome. I started an Alistair MacLean thread if your interested. I was looking at my library the other day and realized..."boy, this guy wrote a lot of books and their all goodl" I liked The Gun's of Navarone (an essintial in my opinion) and Breakheart Pass.

Glad to have you here. The Enemy

The Guns of Navarone

message 50: by Traci (new)

Traci *wave* Hello familiar people.
I'll admit this is a genre I know little about and I'm a little confused about which books fall into this category. I'm a fan of the Preston/Child books and pulp era sword & sorcery action, like Burroughs and Howard. I'm open to reading almost anything though and I figure there'll be plenty of books and authors to be introduced to here.
