Welcome to Action/Adventure Aficionados.

The rules here are pretty basic.

1. Treat others with respect. Please do not attack other members. Members will be warned if they do personally attack another member, and will be removed if the offense is serious and the behavior continues despite warnings. If you don't agree, that's okay. Just do it respectfully. Healthy discussion is great. Fighting is not (even though this an action/adventure group).
2. Try to use spoiler spaces when discussing major plot elements in a book, movies, or tv shows.
3. Authors are more than welcome on this group, but we ask you to be considerate to members and keep your self-promotions appropriate. If you would like to announce your books or promote yourself as an author, including blog posts, or contests, etc., use the Promotions section. We also have a Member-Authors section and you are free to post self-promotions in that section as well. Any excessive and unnecessary promotion of books is subject to deletion or editing by moderators.
Promotions Folder: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
Member Author Section:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
4.When you join the group, please feel welcome to introduce yourselves in the New Member Introductions thread and dive into any discussion that catches your fancy!

Asteropê (21tauri) | 8 comments I'm sorry if this is not the correct place to ask, I was wondering, for the Reading Challenge(s), do YA books count or is it just adult fiction?

Series such as:
Young James Bond series by Charlie Higson
Boy Soldier series by Andy McNab
There are also a lot of YA Adventure books as well, such as: The Middleworld series by Jon Voelkel and even many of the Rick Riordan series.

Youth books are fine!

Yes, Eileen said it.

the process for regular group reads is, First Members nominate a catagor (or genre-like group) for books, then members vote (any member of A/A Aficionados) to select a catagory. Then, members nominate books from the nominated catagory or subgroup followed by a vote, with the winner becoming the group read.

We also have a "Featured Member Author - Book of the Month" recommndation that is decided upon by authors. It's a project in flux right now but this is how that works (in a nutshell)

All books on our Member-Author book list are voted on by member authors. Then there is a run off, voted on by member authors, then that book is selected as a recommendation from A/A Afictionado Member Authors for the group (all of us) and featured on your header.

For a book to be eligible, the author must have been an A/A group member for one month. (We maintain a list in the "books" section) and the authors are on a list in the "authors" section.

It doesn't matter what the genre or catagory of the book is, if it's written by a member author it's eligible. (bear in mind this is an Action Adventure discussion group. Those are likely to be more popular, but, the idea is to celebrate member authors and their books more than it is chained to the A/A genre.

Hope that's helpful.

Asteropê (21tauri) | 8 comments Thanks for explaining how the other reads work! :)

I wasn't sure if there were any rules for the "Action/Adventure Reading Challenge 2013" so I thought I'd ask. It seemed really open and general. Good to know YA would work there!

Eileen Curmudgeon, thanks for the expanding on my answer.

Much appreciated!

I think Y/A action adventure qualifies for the challenge as much as any other Action Adventure book. The question is not is it Y/A or O/A it's "is this considered an Action Adventure?" (Which is something we are generally liberal about in our thinking).

You have already gotten your answer, but definitely YA A/A books count.

Feliks (dzerzhinsky) Just an observation: I've been on Goodreads a few years now and I've yet to see any really umbrageous behavior break out in any of its reader groups. Its all remarkably tame. Nothing like the rest of the net.

The reason? Probably because groups are self-moderated. Moderators are not Goodreads staffers. This is what makes all the difference. Moderators who are also users of the site, take an active interest in keeping things calm.

Of course, maybe I don't hang out in 'Harry Potter' or 'Game of Thrones' or 'Twilight' reader groups, so its possible there's a side of Goodreads --one I've never seen --which is filled with mayhem.

But for any 'adult' group like this, its true that just a handful of commonsense guidelines suffice to keep things humming cordially.

We have a few authors who have not been respecting the group rules about self-promotion. I will delete any and all posts that are outside of approved thread. If you continue to post self-promos when asked not to, you will be removed from the group. Thanks for respected other members of the group.

If you honestly made a mistake, I get it, but one thing you should make yourself familiar with is the group rules before you start posting.
