This wasn't one of my favourites.

Thanks Shahela, 4 great reviews. Louis Sacher is a great author, who is very good at including sensitive issues in his books without bashing the reader over the head with them! Have you read Someday Angeline?

Two great reviews, Lisa. I think children will manage the tricky words that you mention in Ghost in the Post- they're both reasonably phonically regular, but may need help to work out what they mean. However, there should be a reasonable level of challenge. Paddington is one of those lovely characters that children love to read about; he's like a naive younger child for them and they enjoy laughing at the things he gets wrong.

I'll have to see if I can see what's happened with the Beverley Naidoo book review.

Thanks Liam, I didn't know about this book! Alexander McCall Smith has also written a children's book about Mma Ramotswe from No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency Precious and the Monkeys

These work Liam. The Beverley Naidoo book would be a fantastic resource for PNS Literacy units on traditional tales.

I agree, Lisa, children should know where their meat (if they eat it) comes from!

Great reviews. Jennifer, I agree with you about Mrs Goat and Her Seven Little Kids. I don't think it is one of Tony Ross' best books, but it can be useful as a version of a traditional tale, like The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. I think The Graveyard Book is astonishing as well. Have you read any Diana Wynne Jones? She was a big influence on Neil Gaiman.

From Ruth Miskin's Superphonics collection this is my review of Witchipoo's School: Purple Storybook.
