Samantha McNulty Can anyone reccommend any books in verse that I could start with? I have been hearing good things and would like to give the sub genre a try!

Many Thanks,
Sam

Miss Bookiverse (missbookiverse) Good books to start with are the ones by Lisa Schroeder and Ellen Hopkins I'd say. Personally I think Ellen Hopkins is more skilled at verse writing but her topics are also very dark (drugs, violence, death, abuse) so that might not be for everyone.

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) I haven't read the book yet, but Because I am Furniture by Thalia Chaltas is in verse. I am with Sara, WMMDK was a great book.

Out of the Dust was in verse. I didn't particularly care for it, but it won the Newberry. Love That Dog is in verse and that was cute. I also am a fan of Hopkins' books. Come back and let us know what you find, Sam.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 44 comments I read Crank by Ellen Hopkins..really liked that. A bit dark. Also, Purple Daze is a book in verse set in the 60's. It was good but not great for me.

Bookworm (coolcat65) | 1 comments Steven Herrick has great books-in-verse
such as 'simple gift' and 'a place like this'

Amy I loved the Lisa Schroeder books. I read Chasing Brooklyn by Lisa Schroeder and the I love You book by her (can never remember the entire title). Both were really good fast reads.
