It's time for our nominations for October's group reads. If you haven't done this before, our rules can be found here: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2.... If you have questions, please ask.

Our theme for October is fairytale retellings! You may nominate 2 Young Adult books, one that is themed, and one that is not. Please label your books as themed and non-themed.

Please include authors' names when nominating. Authors may not nominate their own books!

Thanks!

If you need ideas, check out this list:

Just make sure the book is geared to YA.

Angela Sunshine (angelasunshine) Be sure to check our bookshelf before nominating, we've actually read quite a few good ones already that fall in this category.

Indeed we did. Feel free to revive the conversation if you like, Jamie. Is there another non-themed book you would like to nominate?

Ok, how about Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs?

No worries Jamie :) And welcome :)
Sweet Venom is a great choice! I really want to read it.

Jennifer Fuentes | 24 comments Has anyone read The Looking Glass Wars? I'm not sure if it's good, but it sounds like an interesting plot for a fairytale-retelling.

Just wondering.

I've read the 1st two (The Looking Glass Wars and Seeing Redd). They are both great! I want to read the third, but haven't gotten to it yet.

Brittany | 35 comments I've read The Looking Glass Wars and didn't like it as much as I expected. There's not a lot of Alice in Wonderland retellings because it is already a story with a lot of depth and it's relatively modern in the scheme of Fairytales... There's some Japanese manga ones, but it's the only English one I've seen. I have Seeing Redd on my bookshelf but haven't read it. The concept was better than the plot, if I recall.

And though not a YA book I've heard good things about Alice I Have Been

Brandi (librandian) | 206 comments Themed: The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman

Non-Themed: Memento Nora by Angie Smibert

Throwing my opinions in here...I loved The Looking Glass Wars, but I was really disappointed with Alice I Have Been. The author jumped around bluntly throughout Alice's life and she did not handle Dodgson's possible attraction to Alice well at all.

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Themed: Princess of Glass by Jessica Day George

Non-themed: This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen

Might as well give my two cents :) I enjoyed The Looking Glass Wars very much (listened to the audio book and the narrator was great! I never read the sequels, though I want to. I did have a couple students who truly loved the whole trilogy.

Brittany | 35 comments OOh heard good things about Miss Peregrine's ... Some good nominations here and a lot of stuff I haven't heard of. Looks like a lot of people have read Looking Glass Wars and liked it. I liked it too, just not as much as I had hoped I would...but I think with so many good opinions it's worth you trying it out :)

Karis Jacobstein (yalitwit) | 419 comments I just changed my non-themed to All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin because I'm reading it now and it's effing AWESOME! You guys MUST read it!

I didn't mention it before, but I LOVE Hatter Madigan form The Looking Glass Wars. HUGE book crush! If it were a movie, Jude Law would have to play him! <3

Miss Peregrine's was great! the use of historical photographs really helped up the creepy factor.
