TCF Mod Discussions
*this thread is for the TCF Mod's to discuss the group and the running of it. This is where Mods will be notified of what is going on and be kept in the loop!

The logistics are killing me!

My biggest questions about this whole thing would be what challenges stay in the groups? I guess we could do them all here but I kind of feel like the Monthly group challenge should stay in the group and have a link here...I think I started a folder to show you what I mean. And then if a challenge is very group specific...like Susanomics 101. But then again we could always have links for these things in the groups and just do those here too...what do you think?

Also, what about the challenges like the hero/heroine and seasonal challenges that are already started but will be going for awhile? Should we post the challenges here and let people have the choice to move their list and encourage them to do so? Should we just stick those out in their groups?

Last thing that is hurting my brain...when should we plan on having this up and going?

message 3: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I think each group should keep their own challenges--mini, monthly, yearly, whatever. I'm thinking a monthly group specific challenge, a yearly, and a couple mini's per month. If we move all of the challenges then we'll end up losing the casual challengers. If anyone wants to go above and beyond (or are just addicted to them like me) then they can jump over to this group for a bigger variety to choose from. Each group can have their own folder here where we can link directly to those group specific challenges if we want to keep everything cohesive. I think I'm rambling now. I'm gonna stop there. lol

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
That was my orginal thought, but I keep second guessing what will work easier. Good thing is we can always change it later if something isn't working right?!

message 5: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) So we're putting in some from other groups and new ones from here, yes? I think we should add the hero/heroine challenges, since there's still quite a bit of time left. We don't wanna make it too much about the other groups, since this is it's own. Linking a few challenges would be a good way to promote the other two. Like posting the book a month challenge here, but linking it to RIME and WLSM. Question about that, would we want a whole new one for here, since the two of those are different or would we just have people participate in one of those?

The only thing I think might get people is posting here AND the other groups. Maybe we could kinda make this separate from the others? People might not join this if they're just going to do what they do on the other groups or think it's the exact same thing. Does that make sense?

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I think the biggest thing is we need to decide for absoute sure what stays where and what goes. I think if we post one challenge in to many groups it's harder on us as Mod's/Host and the challengers might feel pulled as to where to do it. But we may have to do that a little at the begining. We also need to keep in mind that we will be adding more challenges, so Tegan while it's easy enough now to do your Book-a-month in several differnt groups, you will be able to host several different challenges here so condensing it down to one that is run here and linked to both groups may end up being easier in the long run. Though ultimately I'll let that be your call.

As of now this is what we are sure on...

RIME Will Keep For Sure...*However they will be linked in here)
♥RIME Monthly Challenge
♥Reading Is My Escape Yearly Challenge

WLSM Will Keep For Sure... *Will Also be Linked
♥WLSM Monthly Challenge
♥Any Specif SM Challenge exampel Susanomics 101

Reading Challenges (HELP pick a new name) will have here...
♥Hero Challenge
♥Heroine Challenge
♥GoodReads 2011 Challenge
♥Buddy Reads (the new challenge Tegan is starting)

What's Up In the Air...
♥Seasonal Challenges
♥Book-a-month Challenges for both groups

Did I leave anything out?
So just post what you think about the up in the airs and if you have a problem with any of the others. Remember that like with the seasonal we can still do a RIME group event for the seasonal challenge have a link in the challenges there so that RIMEers still have plenty of access but it keeps most of the challenges in one spot. I do agree with Jen that we should have at least a couple in the group for casual challenges...they have to start their addictions somewhere!lol

message 7: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Here's what I'm thinking: RIME and WLSM have different categories for the book-a-month challenge. I don't have to have two different ones running here. I'm wondering if we could just leave them there and then start a new one on here? I'll probably just use the same criteria as the RIME challenge, but that way it could get people that are only in this group. Does that make sense?

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Tegan that's fine with me if you want to run them all (and of course I'll help however) you can always downsize later if it gets to be to much. Does everything else look okay to you?

message 9: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Okay! Thanks! :) I'm trying to decide if I'll do it for sure on here. I might just leave it on the other two and do different stuff here. What do you think? And yes everything else looks great! :) I'm so excited about this!!

message 10: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Well maybe just don't do it in Oct for now (on this site) most of the member will be from one or both of the groups, but you can add it if/when we get lots of extra members. Or we can do something else but similar for here...

message 11: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Okay! That sounds good to me :) One less thing for me to keep track of while I move! haha

Dawn, Vicki, Rin...you want to be Mods? I don't want to push, but I want everyone to be as involved as they want to be☺

I'm getting excited, it's starting to come together nicely♥

Also so far you have one name suggestion for the group

The Challenge Factory (from Tegan) I really like this, I was thinking we could go with a kind of Steampunk theme because of the "factory"...hmmm, I even have a great clip art sight with victorian clipart to use in the threads...But if anyone else has suggestion please let us know!!!

message 13: by Zany Rin (new)

Zany Rin (zany_rin) You know I am down Shell and I second the name Tegan came up with ... way better then mine. LoL!

message 14: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments I like the name, too.

message 15: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Oh!! I like the steampunk idea, of course! haha :) Glad you guys like the name!

message 16: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Okay, changing the name and will start looking for a better group graphic, if anything comes up with a Factory with a steampunk feel send it my way! And speaking of Steampunk...here is the link with the victorian clipart, they even have a steampunk section, plus I'm sure we can find more. You don't have to use this for you graphics, I'm just giving you tools☺

I invited Anino from the Gotta Have PNR with a Kick group to stop by and see if her group want to be a part of this too☺

Also I changed the name from Mod Squad to the Usual Suspects...it didn't feel right to keep the Mod Squad since Jen and maybe others will be a part of this, but Rin promised to think of a great name, so as soon as Rin uses that brilliance I will change it again!☺

Okay guys I have a challenge sign up and a group sign up (whozits and whatzits) PLEASE let me know what you are willing to do. Just post it in that thread and then I'll add you to the signup and you can get started...The Book Buddy challenges starts on tuesday the 27th so we need to have this up and going as much as we can by then☺ We can always add to it later too.

message 21: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Shell, it doesn't start the 27th, it starts the 1st. But the 27th is the last day to sign up for it :)

message 22: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
That's right...I was just thinking of them pairing up. Well that takes some of the pressure off, but I would still like to hurry becuase you loose internet on the 29th so I want you to be able to help everyone get set up over here and everything running smoothly if at all possible!

message 23: by Tegan (new)

Tegan (therowdylibrarian) Aww, thanks you! :)

message 24: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Okay. So the hubby left this morning for Tennessee. I'm bored. The kid doesn't wanna play while Mickey is on (I really hate that mouse). SO...I made a facebook page for TCF. It's unpublished atm. If we decide we don't want it I'll delete it (but it might draw in more people...who knows). If we decide to keep it I'll need to add y'all to the page owners thing. Thoughts?

message 25: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Good idea...it certainly can't hurt anything. So what do I need to do for you to add me to the page owners thing? You can search me by Shelly Tallent or my email which you should have, or I 'liked' the RIME page so I don't if you can find me through there

message 26: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments K. Sent the friend request thing. Should be able to add you as admin then

message 28: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
It worked! Thanks for setting that up! I'm working on stuff tonight, and then I will hopefully start inviting people tomorrow! I'll let everyone know when I do and then you guys can invite people too☺

message 29: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Okay in order to start cleaning up the group, and getting it to look like it will when we launched I moved all the threads I had set up for us to have discussion in to the Archives...I didn't want to delete just in case there was info we still needed...

I'll post this in the whozit's and whatzits too

Doing the GoodReads 101 what are some tips/how to's ect that I should add? Same with the Group How To's...

message 31: by Zany Rin (last edited Sep 29, 2011 09:56PM) (new)

Zany Rin (zany_rin) How to add an image (for those who don't know) ... sorry that is all I can think of at the moment. Oh and this one is more for me but how are you guys freezing the posts and linking you comments? I mean I know how to make links but how are you obtain the url to your sole comments. That is what has me cornfused.

message 32: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Basic HTML & Images I would think would be all we really need just so we don't have to post it for every single challenge.

message 33: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I'm working on the basic html...and I'll just add stuff to it as we go. I'll get to the Images in a bit!

Rin, we are hyperlinking to our comments..is that what you mean? Just do the same thing you would for a regular link but right click on the time stamp on the comment you want to link to, and then choose copy shortcut...past that in the link and it will take you directly to the post...I think that's what you were asking but if not ignore me and tell me again what you were wondering!lol As far as freezing the post...do you mean like I did it the Group/Mod Intro?

message 34: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Okay, I opened to group to public and I linked the Buddy Read group, but I would like to hold off on the invites until Dawn is able to send the message out to RIME...Then we can start inviting our GR friends and all the groups☺

message 35: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Started a few spreadsheets on Google Docs to keep track of participation and completion stuff. If you want to take one over...let me know i'll share it with you. ☺

message 36: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I will be more than happy to do that!

message 37: by Zany Rin (new)

Zany Rin (zany_rin) I would like to help you out Jen but I can't until the semester in over. Is that okay?

message 38: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments RiN, That's perfectly fine. School comes first. :)

Shell you have access to all of them. I think they're all up-to-date...except for the ones made after this morning.

message 39: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Okay, I'll check them out here in a bit!

message 40: by Zany Rin (new)

Zany Rin (zany_rin) ♥Shellbelle♥ wrote: "Rin, we are hyperlinking to our comments..is that what you mean? Just do the same thing ..."

Thanks Shell but I figured out how to link my comments but the freezing a post I see at the bottom of some our threads where it would usually say this thread is closed but instead it says the thread has been frozen by the moderator. How are you doing that?

message 41: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Just hit the edit button by the thread title...like in this thread, go up to the top hit the edit, and then choose close this thread...for some reason it say's it is frozen by the mod instead of being closed... I have been doing it when I don't want anyone to add anything while I'm working on it. So I reserve x amount of post and then freeze it...it still lets me edit the reserved post!

message 42: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
Jen, I checked out the google docs and that looks great! Thanks for doing that! What do you want me to do... Do you want to split it somehow, or just add as we go? Whatever you think works for me☺

message 43: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I'm going to invite all of my GR friends to join...Hopefully we can get a lot more people to join, and I'm also hoping to become a featured group, so I'm going to nominate us for that. If we get new memebers then we might gets some run off to the other groups too! Other than that everything seems to be going smoothly☺

message 44: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments However you want to do it. I've been trying to update in the early morning when I have a minute or two to focus on something other than kid. I have a feeling if we get behind it's going to quickly get to be out of control.

I sent out invites to all of mine and I see a few have joined.

Could someone else see if they can link directly to the challenges on the Facebook page. I could do it before, but now I can't. It's weird. It just brings up the goodreads general Groups page.

message 45: by Shellbelle (new)

 Shellbelle | 434 comments Mod
I'll try and see if the Facebook thing will work for me...

I agree I think that if it behind then it will be out of control. I tend to have more time to update stuff in the evening but I can just pick some to update and then update them everyevening when I get on GR's...is that okay? I'll look at the list again and let you know what ones I can do. If that doesn't seem to be working we can always change it up!

message 46: by ~Jennifer~ (last edited Oct 05, 2011 09:24AM) (new)

Convert the < and > on the ends to the html.

message 47: by ~Jennifer~ (new)

~Jennifer~ (book_addiction) | 929 comments Trying something else for The Master List. There are 3 options up now. The Lists, The Individual Genre folders, and then I started My Favorite Books. I think the new one is going to be the easiest. Everyone can make their own folder and link their favorites. That way if you have someone you usually like whatever they're reading you can check their folder for an idea. I think if we keep updating The Lists! and then make our own folders we should be pretty well covered. What do ya'll think?

message 48: by Shellbelle (new)

That sounds great Jen! I'll check it out...and I have the next two days off so I plan on finishing up the How To's and work on some other stuff too!
