My name is a memory- fallen?

Okay I haven't read this book yet. But I have read fallen by Lauren Kate and this book basically sounds like a copy, I'm not saying it but has anyone read both? Because the main characters even have the same names, Daniel and Lucy. And the desription sounds like fallen was.

I've read both books. Fallen is an easy read, and did not affect me as much as when I read My Name is Memory. The similarities in characters and reincarnation theme unfortunately rips off some originality of My Name is Memory, however dissimilar its story is from Fallen.
I think that Memory has way more substance than Fallen, though. It has stronger and sensible characters with a thorough backstory that helps you understand them better. It gives a richly described setting for each scene, tells a bittersweet tale of how immortality can be very lonely. It relates the perpetual struggle of making each reincarnation of Lucy remember who she was, and trying to make her fall in love with him (Daniel) all over again. My Name is Memory is memorable, deeply insightful, and is worth reading.

I have read them both. At first because of the names of the main characters and the reincarnation aspects i thought My Name Is Memory but when i read it i realized that although simular they are completley differant. It is a captivating book about love and loss.

Some comments have made me want to maybe try readin this book, but geez it sounds too similar to Fallen for me to really want to read it. The thing i hate the most is reading two different books that have the same plot, same names, same everything. It feels like one author copied the other and that to me is sad and pathetic. Maybe i should give it a try but touching the book is going to make me vomit. it feels like a copy cat. Perhaps when i get used to the idea but for now My Name Is Memory is out of my reading list.

I’ve had “My Name Is Memory” lying around forever but only just read it now. The ending really got to me and I have a lot of feelings and a certain need for there to be a sequel.

As for the weirdness with this wonderful book and the Fallen series both being about reincarnation and their main characters having the same name, well that’s just weird.

I read the first three Fallen books years and years ago and back then I really enjoyed them. Recently I’ve reread the three first so that I could read the last one. And what a shitty experience that was. The fallen books are just so poorly imagined. The plot makes zero sense and the characters of the series are flat and boring.

If you have enjoyed “My Name Is Memory” then don’t waste your time reading the Fallen series. I really should have stopped myself from finishing the series when I was done with book 2 and I realized I was not enjoying them, but alas my OCD made me finish them. What a complete and utter waste of time.

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who noticed this. I know that neither authors can help that both of the main characters and plot set up are exactly the same, but it really bothers me. Honestly I don't think I can read this book because I read Fallen first, and they're just too similar sounding.

I've read the two books but in my opinion, the only similarities between the books are their names and the reincarnation theme (which is if you've read My Name Is Memory the whole reincarnation thing with Fallen series is different). I like My Name is memory more than the Fallen series but I didn't like the ending. It left me hanging.

I've read both books and yes there are lots of similarities but they are quite different in the long run because my name is memory is about a boy who can remember past lives while fallen is about a fallen angel who has never died . I love both books very much and they have given me hours of enjoyment as I have re-read them multiple times.

the names are similar but it's not the same well kinda

I read both and also really liked both. While there are some similarities (the names, reincarnation), the books are on the whole very different. My Name Is Memory is generally more serious, sadder and perhaps for a bit older/more mature readers than Fallen.

i love the book, i just got done with it. but i was kinda disapoted at the ending. i was hoping he'd show up at the vary end of it

they sound exactly the same. i haven't read it. but even the names of the characters are the same. this is a rip off.

I have read both and My Name Is Memory is a more sophisticated novel than Fallen. It is a love story but it is so much more than that. The whole story is much more fleshed out and real. Overall, Ann Brashares is an amazing author and Lucy is a realistic female protagonist who has remarkably normal reactions to occurrences in the novel. It is so intricate, I see it is a grown up (but still accessible) version of Fallen.

Well, I haven’t read Fallen (and probably never will because, to me, it looks like Evermore) but My Name is Memory is an adult book. Is about reincarnation; about the pasts lives and currently life of Daniel and Lucy.

Daniel is a man who have the strange ability to remember all his past lives. He also have the ability to recognize the soul of the person, so he can recognize reincarnated people he have met before in his past lives. He first met Lucy in the year 552 when he accidentally killed her. Then he finds her again centuries later, when her name was Sophia and she was the wife of his brother Joaquim, who was a very abusive man. Sophia and Daniel falls in love, but they can’t be together because she’s already married.

Because he can remember his past lives, he knows he loves Sophia every time he get born again, so he keeps looking for her and finding her. But because of age, class differences and deaths —they were either a war wounded soldier and Lucy was his nurse, or he’s a little kid and Lucy was an older woman from church, or he was a poor boy and she a queen, and so goes on— he never get to be with her until this Sophia’s reincarnation: Lucy, who is his same age and goes to his same school. But that's the only teen romance part of the book; the first chapters when Lucy, in this actual life, met Daniel for the first time in high school. Then the story goes 5 years later, so they are like 23 in the story.

There’s no fallen angels in this book or any other supernatural being. There’s only Daniel, a man with an extraordinary memory who's always trying to find his Sophia (Lucy) to make her remember him and finally be with her.

There's no "immortals" in this book. Remember this book is about reincarnation, so Daniel dies like every human would, and then he born again in another totally different body and then he just remembers his past lives. So in fact, his name is not really Daniel. He just likes to call himself like that because he REMEMBERS his past lives and his first name was Daniel. So for him, he is Daniel.

Oh and the book is narrated in third person; some chapters are about Lucy’s current life, but mainly is about Daniel past lives and the actual one.

It have a lot of passionate scenes, it have sex, lust, tragedy… The only thing I didn’t like that much was the end because it was an open ending, but I just read the book will be part of a trilogy, so I’m happy now XD

And there’s a villain too, of course. Is Joaquim, Daniel’s former brother, but he is BAD, so is not like a love triangle or something XD

You should read the book. It is really good.

Oh and according to IMdb there will be a movie too :)

I read both of them. And I agree that the story sounds the same if you read the blurb but they are definitely different!
My name is memory is more beautifully written than Fallenand it really has a full story behind it.
The plot of Fallen is still not very clear to me even though I have already read two of the series.
In My Name Is Memory is the history about the two chracters very clearly written so can't be an misunderstanding the story is also told in the perspectives of both the main characters making the story more realistic and adorable. Maybe it is because Ann Brashares is more experinced in writing than Lauren Kate is.
I acknowledge My name is memory also as one of my favorites so it DO is really worth reading it!

I read both and in my opinion My name is memory is better form Fallen only because of more realistic story about the two of them. I find it much maturer because of how he acts toward her and how he's trying to make her remember how much he loves her.

I've read "My Name Is Memory" but haven't read fallen. You can check the review and find out if they're really maybe related.
It's a story basically about a young manDaniel whose love for a young womanLucy cuts across many places, names and time.He has a good memory and always identifies his love each time and each age he sees her-as a granny, as a queen,as a wife to his brother and so on.But the novel is set at a time where they are at high school and David tired of having to loose her over again tries his best to let her recall and never to let go even as a figure who has hunted them for so long resurfaces.

It was a good read and a cool story. And it's idea about reincarnation and every being having a past life which events are limited by our poor memory......I can't really say

OK, I've read both. And I must say, this book does not belong in the adult section. It frequently felt that it emotionally belongs in the teenage genre.
This is the sort of book where people love through fate or destiny without having to get to know each other at all and it is, of course, 'true love'.
The plot feels a bit sparse to me and very fragmented: so there are lots of little sections, some only a couple of pages, where Daniel recounts his previous lives. The addition of an evil brother who completes the love triangle was a bit too much like a pantomime villain and the whole patterning too neat.
It wasn't as similar to Fallen as I predicted it would be, true, but the simple lack of fallen angels does not mean that the two are totally separate. Daniel came across as a poof to me, a little desperate boy who's in love with the idea of being in love. I prefer the Fallen series. I found this book a bit of a struggle. But to each their own, I suppose...

I havent read my name is memory yet, but it sounds almost exactly the same as Fallen in the reviews people have posted. I dont know if its worth reading My Name Is Memory if theyre the same :\

It sounds the same, but I've only read Fallen. I think My Name is Memory is like an adult version of it?
