Yeah, that's understandable, Candy. I'm wondering if a 3G version would have to have some kind of phone contract like the iPad. Otherwise, it would cost Amazon a huge amount more to put them out.
I did order the Fire, but there's a good chance I'll be getting Touches or the cheapy ones for relatives.
Is this going to be your first Kindle? I saw you mention in the other thread you're reading hardcovers.

Hi Candy I am new here (just joined) I seen your post and no there is no monthly contract for the 3g on the Kindle you don't pay ANYTHING more Amazon pays for it. They get by with this because the only thing you can do is download books and shop the Kindle store now. The Kindle keyboard you could surf the internet on it but I never do.
The Fire is WI-FI only tho no option for a 3g connection.

Mine too but I doubt it will be there since it is shipping to Hawaii. =(

Hawaii? Well, you never know. I doubt I'll see mine until the due date but, I keep my fingers crossed.

I heard something about how Amazon is testing a way to have same-day shipping to parts of the country. I'm sure it would be hugely expensive, and I doubt it'll ever happen, but that would be potentially amazing.

What I may have to do is keep myself from stalking the UPS guy ... although it is funny to meet them at the door, doing a happy dance, singing "My Kindle is here!"
(um. I kind of did something like that on the days the Fedex Man brought my day-of-release Harry Potters)

I understand, where I live you have a choice between dial up, hughes net or a local cell company, none of which are very fast. I have recently gone back to school and want something to use on campus (some of my heavier textbooks have etext versions through their websites that require flash and I have an iPad 2 currently that I hardly ever use because of the lack of flash, I ordered the Fire hoping to be able to use it for that purpose. I have the Kindle Keyboard with 3G already and will not be getting rid of it, though the Fire most likely will be great I don't it will have the same no glare feature as the Kindle Keyboard.

Yes I do, with a cellular router.

Wow! That's so cool! You could probably sell those to people getting Fires. Thanks for sharing, Sheila! Jealous! :)

Yeah, I'm waiting to see what the cover situation will be later when there are more. We'll have to compare notes!

Or lucky 13, if they ship to arrive on day of release (for which I am hoping)!

Yeah, I've been really wondering if they would do that. It seems like they would want to. I guess it'll all come down to when we get our shipping notifications.

I wonder if you could have the shipping address changed. Of course your sister might not like being ignored for your new toy. ;)

Yikes! Maybe it's better to wait...

Same thing happened to me when the K3 was released ... I ordered it and then scheduled a trip to Maine that turned out to be on the shipping date. I had someone watching my mail for it ... and guess what? It didn't come until I got home. The shipping date on the K3wifi was later than the K33g. It appeared in my mailbox on the day I returned home.

(for simplicity's sake, I'm going to assume the 11-16 arrival shown in my order status is correct).

First off, you get another month and ten days until Christmas, so you get BOTH.
Second, there aren't any rules about New Kindle Day ... you don't have to wait until Mom and Dad are awake.
You don't get in trouble for peeking before Mom and Dad are awake.
You don't have to wait patiently to open the box while your younger sibling struggles to rip the paper off her first package.
You don't have to wear the pink bunny suit from your aunt.
You don't have to stop playing with your new toy to have breakfast.
On the other hand, you will have to sit tethered to a power cord while the device takes on it's first full charge.
Or will you have the self-discipline to wait until it is fully charged to play with it??

This is epic. Post of the month right here! :D
Yeah, it'll be really hard to balance playing around with it and trying to talk to people here!

KINDLE DAY has: UPSGUY and his BIG BROWN TRUCK. So every day I need to recite: I will not attack my UPSGUY, I will not attack my UPSGUY, I will not attack my UPSGUY..

I stalked my UPS guy for my first Kindle delivery.
He asked me not to do that again. Apparently they have rules about actually going to the door with stuff.
I apologized and explained I was on the way to work and couldn't wait for him to get to my part of the neighborhood, and that certainly it wasn't safe to leave the package on the porch like that ... he took pity on me and let me sign for my box.
I now live in a high rise. The entire neighborhood's stuff gets delivered at the same time.
He's gotten used to me sitting in a chair in the mailroom on "special" days.
You'd figure that could at least cough it up if you showed them some ID or something. That said, I bet there'll be so many Kindles getting delivered on the 16th that it would be kind of easy to just walk out from behind a house, go "yay it's here!" and snatch it.

I hope the same thing happens for me! .. only if all of yours arrive on the 16th as scheduled though. :)

We have the same UPS guy at home and at my office, so when he stops in the office to deliver, if he has a box from Amazon he always has the secretary call me up front so I can sign for it and receive it right away instead of waiting until I get home.
*sigh* I love my UPS guy...

OOH! I never thought of that! This could be fun...

Just waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.....

No my favorite app is call Lose it and is a nifty calorie tracker for weight loss. I have it on my iPod touch and with its help have lost almost 30 pounds since the middle of August. It syncs with their website http://www.loseit.com/ . That will be my very first app purchase especially since it is FREE!
Oh, this one: Lose It. It looks like it'd be very useful. Using 30 pounds is nothing to sneeze at.
Edited: actually it does seem to work. I input my email address and got an email with a link that says if I open it from an android device it'll download the app. It has instructions too. So it should be possible to get them!

Yes, I'm staring at the calendar.
