La Dolce Vita is okay, but kinda long and boring, RA. Don't set your expectations too high, okay? You'll be doing a lotta fast forwarding. It's three hours or so.

Unlike the image for this group, RA. I hope you're not offended but you couldn't find something more exciting than a
It's never been one of my favorite Fellinis. I'm in the minority here, but I preferred his post-La Dolce Vita surrealism. I just think La Dolce Vita reads like a quirkier Antonioni -- another long, insubstantial slog through upper class anomie.

I still haven't watched The Band's Visit, by the way. You ruined it for me, you bastard.
Well, you've already seen my favorite (Juliet of the Spirits).
But 8-1/2, Amarcord, and Satyricon (I'm ready to be ridiculed for that last choice) are also fun.

Can I suggest a film in the other direction: La Strada? He made it before LDV. It's a beautiful and heartbreaking film.

I agree with David about La Dolce Vita - interesting visually, but thin on storyline. I tried to watch 8 1/2, but the video had white subtitles that disappeared against the white background half the time, and I gave up in frustration. That was a while ago, and someday I will get the DVD version in hopes of readable subtitles.
I hated Fellini for making Satyricon. But I take comfort in him making 8 1/2 and Amarcord.
For what it's worth, Jackie, the Criterion Collection's edition of 8 1/2 is superb, as expected from the fine folks there.

Michael Cera is exactly the dork I would have fallen for at 15...
I would've. He is the exact sort of dork I would've liked. I loved him SO MUCH on "Arrested Development." My favorite character was always changing, but it was always between George Michael and someone else. He was awesome on that show.
I wanted to see Vicki Cristina Barcelona, but it came and went through my town's one indie theater in about two weeks. Yet, it's all right. I'm sure it would have made me all nostalgic for Spain and wish I were still nomadic and bilingual. Now I'm like a pale, pasty, root-bound member of society.
Sigh.
Sigh.

The thing is, last night, it was beginning to dawn on me that I'm entirely responsible for some of these freshman's college English experience, and some of them are NOT GETTING IT, it freaks me out. Whenever I get freaked out I want to leave the country.
Like when I went through the emigration process in 2004 and tried to move to Toronto. (They are remarkably unwelcoming to defecting Americans trying to do things legally, guess I should have just packed up a minivan.)

My darling wonderful woman, those Freshmen don't know how lucky they are. You're awesome!

I liked Clerks 2, but I know K. Smith's material can be hit or miss...
Definitely. I haven't liked his last few. Clerks 2 was a disappointment and Jersey Girl was unbelievably horrible.

I also want to see Get Smart...forgot it came out on video yesterday...

(PS - Watched Hitman last weekend....um...I have to admit I really liked that movie. That guy is in my Top 5 now too....Timothy Olyphant)
I saw Religigous last night. I went to see Vicki Cristina Barcelona but had the time wrong, and had driven all the way down there so I didn't want to come home unmovied. I'm rather sorry, however, and wish I had my 7 dollars back. It was fine, but Bill Moyers is just so pleased with himself and pretty rude.

Went and saw Pride and Glory. Of the 4 of us I was the only one who even remotely liked it. If you like violence and swearing this is your movie. They swear so much it almost made me blush, and I work in the construction industry.

I need to get out more.
Pride & Glory has Ed Norton & Colin Farrell in it. It is a bout a corrupt police squad in New York City.

Sincerely,
Pottymouth
Well Pottymouth, hope you enjoy it. Let me know, as I said I was the only one who liked it, the other three really disliked it.

Were there people that actually enjoyed Pineapple Express? I just saw it and have to say that it was the biggest letdown... after pretty much digging every Apatow project so far.
It kinda reminded me of the Life Aquatic... exposing the weakness of a director/producer that was being held up as the fresh new.
I think Pineapple Express was the worst movie I saw this year.

I tend to avoid chick flicks unless I go see one with my sister-in-law. I went right past Sex and the City and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day without a blink.
I just saw Mike Mignola at Wordstock (who made Hellboy). I've never seen or read it, but there was a constantly rotating slideshow of his art behind his head and it looked interesting. Maybe I'll watch it.
Jackie, I hate chick flicks, usually. BORING! I'm just done with romantic comedies forever unless someone I trust recommends one.

And I liked the water alien guy, who sounded like David Hyde Pierce.
And I would trust Gary to recommend a movie.
Okay, Gary, I'll go see if my library has it right now.
They don't. Maybe I'll join Netflix. Maybe.
