Q&A with Josh Lanyon discussion
START HERE: Introduce Yourself

"Hi, I'm Blaine, and I'm addicted to m/m, both writing and reading."
*quickly sits back down*
Sorry, couldn't resist :)
What my bio says is:
'Blaine is a purple haired, forty-something, writer of gay romance with a love of men, music, mystery, magic, fairies (the pointy eared ones), platform shoes and the colours black, purple and red, who sings her way through life. '
I was born and raised in Zutphen, the Netherlands, have been married for over 21 years, and have three boys (one foster son) of 20,18 and almost 17, and a cairn terrier called Kendra (which means protector).
I can't wait for the oldest boys to move out. lol
I have two stories coming up with Storm Moon Press soon. Is it december yet?
Oh my, there's an introduction thread, didn't see that before. So to be retroactively polite, Hi! I'm Cris, voracious reader and big fan.
Dear Author introduced me to you and the m/m genre back in March of this year with her review of ASW. In it she said "Notice I'm not talking about the other series..." which I read as "GO READ THE OTHER SERIES NOW"! So I picked up the FS/ADT combination ebook on a Saturday and finished TDT that Sunday... then I kept going and haven't looked back.
So thanks for that! And thanks for having such a lovely place here where it's so easy to hang out and join in conversations with some of my other favorite authors. It's WAY better than Twitter :)
Just realized I should say something about me other than "I LURVE YOU!"... so... I live in Nashville, have a lot of songwriter friends (who doesn't here?), so I'm fascinated by writing of all types. Regular admin job, fun yet relatively boring life... that's it. Damn, that's dull.

Well! You didn't notice this thread because I just created it a little while ago! But I think it's a great idea for people to say hello and introduce themselves. No obligation, obviously, but it's nice to know who we're chatting with.
Blaine, it is all too close to December!
Cris, welcome! And thank you for the kind words. I'm so pleased to hear you're enjoying the stories.

I thought it was strange that all the "other" posts disappeared - HA! Another thing about me - single most unobservant person EVER :D So when I see something new, I figure everyone else saw it months ago.

lol I have that with shops in my city. I only notice shops have gone until about a month after a new one opens on that address ...

Same here. And I can't usually remember what used to be there before, either...
See that's what I love here, like minded (like-absent-minded?) people :)

:-D :-D :-D
Do you really want us to introduce ourselves? I thought this joint was introductions-optional. Can't I be a woman of mystery? :)

I imagine most of us know each other but for anyone new, I live in Minnesota, with one low key husband, two creative teen girls (one off in college), and a crazy little white mutt. I write m/m romance and some YA, and read everything (although Josh you know I love you bestest :)

PAHPERS PLEASE!
You have to say that with a heavy German accent. My youngest nephew had this fascination with Silent Running -- or whatever it's called. The German sub game. Anyway, when he was very small he used to go around demanding PAHPERS PLEASE! And then pretend-shooting you whether you handed the papers over or not.
Yeah, I know. How delightful. :-P
Anyway, the intros are totally optional! Present your papers or not, as you choose.

I write and read in the wilds of northern Wisconsin. It's cold here most of the year so it's good to stay warm with a romance or two. Really, I think the truth is that I'm addicted to that feeling of falling in love and decided to quit relationship jumping and write them instead. That way everything turns out the way I want it to (other people are such a challenge, don't you think?).
Before I moved to the frozen north I lived in urban areas. I started writing about gay men because I missed them (I've since found a few really brave men and women here of whom I'm in awe - this is not a rainbow covered place).
I have a book coming out in March from Carina and this is my favorite (and really only) goodreads community. I like it here in Josh's online living room and try to keep from putting my feet on the coffee table or eating all the cookies so he doesn't throw me out or decide to close up shop.

I'm Oco, I write, have published a short, but mostly once a story is done, I'm too impatient to move on to the next project to actually work on publishing. Plus, this sense that none of them are ever quite what I was aiming for...
I lurk, then pop up with a vengeance, spouting long TL/DNR posts, then go back and lurk again. Sort of explains my entire personality...

Congratulations, Jan :D

I live in WV with dh and 3 kids. I'm a caffeine bunny & unrepentant insomniac, love zombie flicks and passionately believe in volunteering inside the community.

**Jazz hands out of lurking mode**
Hi, I'm Tanya and I love, love, love reading! It is the one pure joy in my life. Born and raised in Da Bronx, Ny ....but I now live in Arizona with my doggy Nalla. I am a Lanyon Fanyon! I watch bad reality tv because I enjoy going to work the next day and making fun of them.
**Does the roger rabbit back to lurking mode**

I'm a fan of Josh Lanyon, obviously. I lurked on this thread because I loved AE so much, met some other newbie writers, & decided I should try to be an M/M writer too. I hope to get published soon. I love everyone on this group. So welcoming, friendly, supportive, and funny!
Like my writer bio says, in reality I mostly live in a castle in the sky aka my head. Of course I have to maintain an outward appearance of sanity. Not sure if I'm too successful in pulling that off though...

As a member of the Green Party I'm in favor of recycling, so I recycle an introduction I already posted elsewhere ;-).
I was born in Italy, but I've lived in the German-speaking part of Switzerland for the last 22 years. I'm a professional translator.
I do believe we should leave behind us a better world. That's why I'm engaged in political and environmental battles and I've been working for the last 17 years as a volunteer in a Centre Against Racism: we try to bring Swiss citizens and foreigners nearer.
I came to m/m books through the Brokeback Mountain Forum: no movie ever went even near to the impact of ''Brokeback Mountain'' on me. The movie made me also painfully aware of the discriminations suffered even now by some persons just on the ground of who they love. I was already very in favour of gay/lesbians rights before seeing the movie, now I'm even more vocal ad active on the subject.
As a little present here two absolutely-freaking-amazingly-incredibly intense scenes from the movie:
- the ''dozy embrace'': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi6i8bfwV...
- the ''reunion kiss'': http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7OiGU5BF...
After BBM-slash I started to read m/m books. All of this helped me in a difficult time of personal changes: a divorce after 20 years together (NB: I've still got a good relationship with my ex). Now I feel all right again. I usually spend some hours reading every evening. My indulgence is dark chocolate in huge amounts. In fact I've never met a carbohydrate I didn't like ;-).
I'm here because Josh is my favorite author. I'm sorry it took me a while to start to read and comment o the thread. But now I feel like part of the family. Thank you Josh and thank you all!
BTW it is a good idea to have people introducing themselves.
Antonella

I guess I say 'hi', too :) I'm Kat and what's more to say... hmmm... I read a lot, someday my TBR list will bury me under it LOL
I stumbled over Josh's books one day started reading and was hooked :)
So here I am... oh and when I'm crazy, bouncy and bubbly just ignore it that's normal for me... *waves and bounces away* :D

*sneaks away to continue lurking*
Hello everybody, here are my PAHPERS (said with a heavy Finnish accent)...
I stumbled here into Josh's online living room only few weeks ago after I found his books and went to heaven. So, I'm the lucky girl that still has tons of Josh's books to read!!! I've only found m/m genre and my complete weakness to it this year, so I guess I might come across quite fanatic at times, 'cause this genre is almost all I read nowadays. Well, I see that there is a healthy amount of craze going on in this group, so what can I say... it takes one to know one, right? I must say, I've really enjoyed reading your funny, supportive and positive discussions. You have a group with a cosy and easygoing atmosphere to be treasured. :)
I live in Finland just a couple of hours south from the Arctic Circle. I'm 40 years old (young!), an art teacher and I've always loved words and pictures. I've been married to the love of my life for 15 years next summer and lately I've been unintentionally provided him with A LOT of m/m books from my iPad to his by synchronizing. *grin* I guess that he is still a little bit shocked with the situation, so I haven't told him yet that Josh's writing totally makes me want to be a gay man sometimes... ;)

Wow. So this turns out to be one of my better ideas because not only am I meeting new reader friends, I'm finding out stuff about the rest of you old timers that I never knew! :-D
I love this!
I love this!

I love this!"
Now it's your turn. :P Tell us how many people reside in your head and how often they're boinking each other. LOL.

I love to read. I used to read fantasy, science fiction and historical fiction and I'm one of those who looked for fanfiction of their favourite novels and stumbled over slash and from there onward to m/m. During the first reading frenzy in this new genre (for me) I came across The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks and it was a revelation. To think that I had nearly skipped it because I didn't want to read a ghost story... scary! It's still one of my most beloved stories.
Genetically, I'm a lurker and tend to stay in the background and follow the discussions quietly. So, I'm glad to have found this wonderful group where I feel comfortable enough to comment (language barrier and all). It's one of the very few I found where discussions and conversations are possible in a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Thank you, Josh, for letting us play here!

Hi Kat!

Hi Kat! There are some more of us around. Liade already introduced herself, but you might want to check here. ;-)"
Oh wow... I didn't know about that group! Thanks :)

My name is Traci and I'm originally from the Midwest in the USA, now relocated to North Carolina. I'm a bibliophile since birth (thanks Mom & Dad!) and have worked around books for the last 13-14 yrs, first in a used book store and now in a library. My TBR pile has morphed into piles and like others, threatens to take over my life. What, is that a bad thing?
I found Josh thru my library gig; while reading a professional mag (PW, I think), I came across a review of an AE title. I decided "why not?" as I don't really discriminate against any genre. I read it, reviewed it, and thought I'd try the next one - which was much better. And the rest is history! I've emailed Josh (yes, I stalk!) and have been FB and GR friends with him (and the Fanyons!) for a while now. I totally believe in supporting new authors!
On a personal level, I appreciate what the Kindle and Nook and other devices have done for the publishing/writing world. But I remain a fan of hard copy - gotta have the physical book in my hands! Now, lest you think me a complete technophobe, I will tell you that for the last 3 months or so I've been proofreading for an e-publisher - so there's hope for me yet :D

Like my friend Antonella, I'm another Italian-born living abroad. I've lived in London,UK, since 1996.
I'm a professional translator and proofreader.
I'd heard of Josh Lanyon from some of my friends in the Brokeback Mountain forum & fandom I've been a member for over five years.
I've been sensitive about issues of discrimination and inequality based on sexual orientation all my adult life, and since BBM I've become even more active in gay rights advocacy.
Some of my friends in the BBM fandom many months ago suggested I read Josh Lanyon's books so I finally took the plunge and haven't looked back since. Josh is among my favourite writers. His characters have had an incredible impact on me. I haven't read all of his books yet, but I find myself re-reading the ones I have more than once.
This a great thread. But more in general, I like the civilized atmosphere and tone of conversation here in Goodreads, whether topics discussed are light-hearted or serious.

Kristie, hello there fellow Hoosier! That's where hubby and I moved from almost 10 years ago :D
And don't worry - I don't write, either.

Since my teen years (late '70) I've been sensitive about gays discrimination. None of my friends cared about gays but I have always used my own brain.
I come from Brokeback Mountain forum. The movie left me devastated and I joined the forum to share my feelings. There I found slash and a healing fandom.
Josh Lanyon's books are high rated in the forum and some weeks ago a friend suggested me to read them, she was sure I would have liked the AE series and she was so right!
Adrien and Jake will be in my heart forever.
Antonella led me here.
Some hours ago I bought the two books of Holmes and Moriarity series. Can't wait to start reading.

Ciao all around

Ciao all around"
:) Still one of my favorite countries in the world, Antonella (and birthplace of one of my favorite writers ever). Would go back in a heartbeat if I could.
ETA: I don't think I ever mentioned that I took writing workshop (actually it was an arts workshop but I was in the writer's group) in the Lake Garda area once. Just beautiful.

I have had many professions. I am currently a nurse. I discovered digital books out of sheer laziness. I started reading m/m exclusively after 4 months of working in a Postpartum unit. Without TMI, let’s just say I needed a break.
I am not a writer. I took the bare min. of lit classes in college and avoided creative writing and poetry. I am a math/science geek. I am in awe of the emotion and inflection you all can express so simply.
Thanks all for letting me listen in!!

Wow, your job is cool! Medical researcher. I can easily picture you with glasses and doctor coat. :D

No glasses but well yeah doctor coat is obligatory -.-"
Friday I saw an ex student and he was soooo happy showing me his projects now, and he offer free gastroscopy if I need it :-D
Ex medical students are funny, it's so great how they say things like "oh Camila! So good to see you! Hey if you need to check your stomach look for me! I'm working at..."
:D
My answer is always "NO WAY in hell! I will go to a real doctor, not one of my ex students"
:-D
