Katie Do you think that Eragon and Arya should have kissed just before he left to leave? I do!!

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I don't think so. I think they both knew at that point that a romantic relationship would never work, and it would have just been melodramatic for them to kiss. I really like how they said each others true names, though. I thought that was more intimate and more appropriate for their situation

Tina I agree with both of you

Carter No way! Their relationship is not like that. I think the whispering true names was melodramatic, but a decent way to end the book. Murtagh and Nasuada is sadder then Eragon Arya.

Huh, half brothers, both fall in love with people who then become queens. WEIRD!

Katie Katie wrote: "Do you think that Eragon and Arya should have kissed just before he left to leave? I do!!"

Now, i do agree with your point of view of that aspect. I agree, but also disagree. It was very intimate that they did tell each others true names, but Christopher could have put a more supensful cliff hanger in there. I do think that there should be another book after this one though! it seems that it hasn't fully ended and your hanging off your seat to see what will happen next, even though there will be no 'next'. Once again, i do approve of some of your aspects towards the subjects, but they should have done something more than just say their true names..... What about Sapphira and Firnen?? That is another discussion to talk about later though. Perhaps i will make another discussion with those two. :) Happy Reading!

Agreed. There should have been something other than the both of them holding hands... i mean come on. So juvinile. You pretty much tell each other your feelings and then stand there and never do anything over the next month or two even though you see each other almost every day in that time span. and the way she left the boat... ugh. This IS a rant apparently. wasn't my intention but there it is.

Twila Guys, for Arya to just totally come out of the blue and kiss Eragon, it would have been totally out of charater for her. Arya is 100 years old, imagine all the things she have seen, imagine all the things she has done. Eragon's just 18, or 19, I'm not sure. Eragon is a child in her eyes. Since all the dragons gave Eragon all the knowledge they did, Eragon will surely mature, but it will take years for Eragon to understand what the dragons were telling him. Sure the Inheritance cycle is over, but Eragon and Arya's story isn't finished and they're relationship is far from over.
They have eternity yet to live. Plus, Christopher has confirmed that he will write other books taking place in Alagaesia and he did say that we will see Eragon and Arya in one or two of them. I'm sure they will end up together but not for many years.

Clara i really liked the ending all things considering... i mean kissing would have been weird! and i really like the fact that Arya FINALLY admits she has feelings for Eragon but then had to stay away because of her standing in elven politics. i thought that their whispering each others true names was FAR more intimate than kissing.

!SPOILER ALERT!

Agreed, agreed. But, if you have read Christopher's new newsletter, he said that in the new books (soon to be coming out!) ,since they are immortal, they will have a lot of time to get to know each even more over the years. And he said that Arya and Eragon will be seeing each other again! YEAH!!!

Tyler Where is his news letter? And what book?

Katie Tyler wrote: "Where is his news letter? And what book?"

Hey, thanks for getting into the discution.... but anyway, if you singed up on his website to get newsletters, you should have gotten one.....

Tyler Oh. Yeah... I didn't sign up lol but I just read it. There is a lot of interesting information on future books and ideas. It's all pretty exciting.

Katie yeah, ikr?!yeah, i'm pretty excited about it too!

Tyler So, Katie, I can't tell from all the posts but what were you expecting the ending to be?

Katie Tyler wrote: "So, Katie, I can't tell from all the posts but what were you expecting the ending to be?"

UH... haha, yeah i knew that they weren't going to kiss at the end, b/c it would be out of Arya's character, and i also knew that Arya would get the green dragon... there was a lot of foreshadowing for that to happen... so yeah.... what did you think?

Well i think your computer must have froze or something because there are a lot of identical responses. lol. I knew about the green dragon and arya. that was simple but i was expecting more after they expressed their feelings and then had i think like a month or two after that, that nothing else happened between them. It wasn't a, im telling you this on the boat while casting off so nothing can ever happen between us; it was a, i tell you and see you a lot afterwards and still do nothing and never bring it up until that night. pitiful. I mean, a kiss right before her dragon took her would have made the most since. Just a simple peck on the lips as a final goodbye. Not a makeout session or anything.

Phuong Hmmmmmmmm... all the comments are so interesting! I'm not trying to be all philosophical here, but I think that they really ARE interesting! anyways, I agree on the fact that kissing would be TOTALLY out of character for Arya. But I was awfully disappointed that they didn't even HUG... although whispering the true names was quite something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So to all those disappointing they didn't kiss.. well, life goes on ;)

Jason Wolfe People say that Arya and Eragon could no be together is bogus. The whole book is insinuating that possibility. The ending was very disappointing as I as so many fans thought that Eragon and Arya should be together. Yes, Arya was bound by her duty, but her duty was never fully to the elves, and once she become a rider her duty changed. As soon as I learned that Arya was queen I knew that her and Eragon would not be together, up to that point I totally thought they would be. And the fact they never did more than hold hands isn't really an epic romance, sure they had adventures but so did Eragon and Murtagh. Arya's character wouldn't allow her to leave, who always left to go with Eragon, Arya often abandoned her own people to go with Eragon. Their relationship was deep and intimate without the physical aspect. They had utmost respect and trust, they shared there true names with each other

The last couple of chapters seemed really rushed and did not have the grip that the rest of the book had.
Overall a very good book and I'll likely reread more than once.

Alexia I have to say that no matter what, I am disappointed that Eragon and Arya didn't kiss. It is totally understandable why they didn't, but come on, you can't help but be disappointed.

Carolyn I really thought they would get together

Alexia She could have at least kissed him on the cheek!

Well, I do agree with you except for maybe ONE little thing... I actually loved the ending. I don't feel as if it were rushed at all... I felt as if Christopher was trying to portray that life goes on, and while the STORY of Eragon, Arya, and the Rise of the Riders ended, a new chapter in their lives began. (whew that sounded cheesy!)

Phuong Alexia wrote: "I have to say that no matter what, I am disappointed that Eragon and Arya didn't kiss. It is totally understandable why they didn't, but come on, you can't help but be disappointed."

That's true... took me a while until I got over it :(

yojharobed || I have no sword. I don't need a sword. Because I am the Doctor and this is my spoon. En garde! I did want them to at least kiss. And I really want to know what their true names are!!! I mean, they go through all this searching to try to figure them out, and then WE don't get to know them??? How lame is that??? Also, I wish that Christopher Paolini had gone farther with the relationship between Murtagh and Nasuada. I mean, the entire time, I'm hoping that Murtagh will turn good again, then when he finally does, he LEAVES!!! I liked the book, but I am unsatisfied about some things. I feel like the author could have done a better job with the ending.

maybe that will something he writes about in the future but first Murtagh has to stop hating the world...

Monica The ending between Eragon and Arya was the only thing i liked about the entire book.

Christopher has said before that he will never write someones true name into a book. True names are no small joke

Twila Alexia wrote: "She could have at least kissed him on the cheek!"

Well, she kissed him on the forehead once.

When did Arya ever admit she has feelings for Eragon? Remember she told Eragon 'maybe in time'. She didn't say that she loved him like the way he loved her but I do believe she's halfway there, just not there completely. I think that after Eragon has matured and stuff and when he finally sees Arya again, that will definitely be when they get together.

message 37: by Clara (new) - added it

Clara i think that has always had feelings for Eragon but she just buries them way down because acknowledges the fact they since she is so much older than him, until he matures, there will never be a good chance of their relationship working out...

I agree about the name thing, but you should just be glad he wrote the book at all.

And don't forget that one elven guy that she liked. You know, the one that Durza the shade killed in the first book?

Twila You can't expect Arya to just completely forget about Faolin, you're right.

Yumi i was so disappointed that eragon and arya didn't finally kiss. she totally digs him and it was just sad that she didn't tell him before he left forever. i think the true names thing was intimate but a kiss would've sealed the deal. i was super sad that murtagh and nasuada didn't end up together. :( two couples not together=me unhappy. i like a good love story

message 45: by Josh (new) - rated it 4 stars

Josh Ugh no!!! The way this relationship resolved was one of the better things about this book! The way it grew so slowly and so subtly was beautiful and anything more, like a kiss would have been like making a paper crane and then sticking pictures of Miley Cyrus on it.

We knew that Arya had come to love Eragon and that was enough. They both also knew that a relationship would never work and to take it further would only make it harder.

And plus, if they had kissed or something, I would have stopped reading and set the book on fire.

Carter Once, when a series 55 book series The Invasion (Animorphs, #1) by Katherine Applegate Ended with a cliffhanger, I screamed and threw the book across the room.

Alexia Boys.

Twila Alexia wrote: "Boys."

Seriously. The most I've ever done is when I punched my book. I would never throw it across the room, no offense.

Alexia I slam it closed and yell at it. :)

Mariana i hate christopher paolini so much right now . -.-'' how could he ? :'c
