Thanks for this. Richard Yates is definitely going to be my "Y" author, but that doesn't mean I won't read the others on your list too.

Frances Yates is a non-fiction author I read a couple of years ago (The Art of Memory and The Rosicrucian Enlightenment, but they're quire heavy historical studies so I'm not sure I'm ready to revisit them yet!
W B Yeats also springs to mind: I've an old hardback of his somewhere around, but can't remember if it's poetry or drama, it's that long ago (and obviously barely made an impression!). I've too much else to read now in the light fiction department, so that's going to stay on the shelf.
