What's your favorite book store and place to buy books?

Chelsea Denisse (chelseadenisse) Barnes and Noble, it used to be Borders but they closed it down :(

message 3: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) Just about anywhere to be honest, I think Barnes and Noble is my go-to for most things though.

We don't have a local BN store. There's like 3 in the entire state!!! So I remain loyal to Books-a-Million (: and Joe mugs gotta love Joe mugs

Chelsea Denisse (chelseadenisse) I have never been to Books-a-Million is it a good store?

message 6: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) Yes, same question (we don't have any near us but I hear they are good)

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I like Barnes and Noble, I liked borders too but it is gone now.

Ok guys be honest are books really that much cheaper when you buy them off of Amazon.com? I keep hearing that, but I just can't bring myself to believe it.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

From what I've seen, a lot of books have been marked down from their listed prices. Of course, having Prime (2-day free shipping) helps too, because then you don't have to worry about shipping. I guess the biggest difference is that, even though they're cheaper, you have to wait to get them, whether or not you have Prime. But, yes, they seem to be cheaper.

I find that it's harder to put up an anti-amazon front when your pocket book is so small...... :/

I depends really from book to book. Wednesday made some good points so I won't restate them but I am the sort of reader who buys from here there and every where. I really depends on the price (yes, I am one of those people who will spend thirty minuets to find the best deal on something, especially if is is expensive). So like I said, it really depends on the book and whether you are willing to wait for it to ship.

Ok so are there any other good sites where I can find book cheap? I have no problem supporting my favorite authors (I have most of their books on my ereader and in print!) but I still love a good sale/discount.

message 14: by Carly (new)

Carly I usually don't buy books anymore unless I get a gift card to barnes and noble. I find barnes and noble to be outrageously priced so I depend on the library for my ever-changing supply of books.

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I quite enjoy buying my books from Chapters.

Is that a local bookstore?

I always keep an eye out at B&N, this little bookstore cafe near me, Amazon, http://www.half.ebay.com/ , bookstores.com is sometimes good, powells.com is sometimes good too.

Shotgunguyiscool ♉ (shotgunguyiscool) Bookdepository.co.uk !!!
They're awesome. Cheap and quite fast! :)
Or maybe it's because books in my country is very expensive, more and more book stores are closing down :(

Aw, that stinks.

message 20: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 102 comments Used book stores. I don't have a lot of money, and new books are pretty expensive. >_<

message 21: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) Try Amazon they have used books that are in new condition for pretty inexpensively.

message 22: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ | 102 comments Amazon is also useful and I've bought used books that way, too. But I always have to get my parents to do it since my debit card doesn't work for some reason. *Grumbles* So, it can be kind of a pain.

message 23: by Irene (new)

Irene (wingdesilverii) Oh, I just ask my parents if I can get something and give them the money for it

message 24: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (gabshi) I live like an hour from any good bookstore. There's a tiny one about ten minutes from me, but I haven't gone there ever. I usually try to find an Amazon gift card so I can buy on there. It's cheaper on there than at most bookstores.

message 25: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (gabshi) My opinion is to just go for the library for now and ask for the books at holidays ;)

message 26: by Terab (new)

Terab (fiddylover) | 34 comments Barnes and Nobles because it usually is in stock or they can order for you. I will also look at Sams/Costco bcuz books are cheap there, too. However, lately if I'm visiting a college campus I always check out their bookstores because they often have a very different variety than B & N.

Most colleges around here have a BN. There's only like 2 BN stores in my state. We have a lot of Bam stores though.

message 28: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccatheawesomeone) | 146 comments barnes and noble is the best!!

message 29: by Alina (new)

Alina | 7 comments ebay....=]

message 30: by Preethi (new)

Preethi (itsmepreethi) Barnes & Noble. Their online prices are a steal!

message 31: by Chris (new)

Chris Sorensen (csorensen) Usually I try to get every thing I can through the library (how can you beat free!?). THEN if it is a 5 star-er for my permanent shelf, then I'll pick it up online through Amazon. Every now and then I'll impulse at BN, just because the feel of a good book is very hard to ignore:-)

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I was a loyal Border's customer until they closed. Now I pretty much only buy from Amazon. I can't bring myself to pay full price at a book store when it is so much less expensive online. Plus, I am addicted to reading indie books on my Kindle so I buy lots of those.

message 33: by Jenelle (new)

Jenelle I miss Borders... and their Seattle's Best Hot Chocolate :( sob. Now, I buy books generally at Barnes and Noble... or I get them through paperbackswap.

message 34: by Precia (new)

Precia (preciak) | 3 comments I love shopping for books at Barnes and Nobles its near SoHo in Manhatten! They have a wide spread collection :)

I'm from the NY too :) but I seriously prefer Barnes and Nobles :D

message 36: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 1 comments I buy from b&n for my nook its a lot cheaper than buying hardcover

message 37: by Filippa (new)

Filippa (Flo1190) | 1 comments The UK doesn't have Barnes and Noble - though it sounds awesome - but we have Waterstone's which is pretty much the equivalent (if B&N has leather sofas)

But for all the hours I spend there, I very rarely buy from the shop. Amazon is so much cheaper, often by 50%

message 38: by Betty (new)

Betty | 11 comments Here in Canada
I only buy books in chapters and indigo
It's usually very expensive....
So most of the times i just buy an electronic one if it's available...soo much cheaper
Or I just go to the library but for some of the good books it takes half a year to get a book ><

message 39: by Valencia, Boss Lady (new)

Valencia (empowered) | 1777 comments Mod
That sucks having to wait half a year :/

message 40: by Lady (new)

Lady | 10 comments If im buying from a B&M store I usually buy from Chapters or my local used book store. For older books I like bookcloseouts.ca. I also download alot of e-books from various torrent websites- dont arrest me!!

message 41: by Sye (new)

Sye (shambamz) | 2 comments I have to admit that i love the library... i mean here in new york you can have books routed to your local library from anywhere in your borough and that makes reading so much fun... i can just come on good reads and select a genre of books and request it... lo and behold about a week later its at my local library... i guess i'm really patient and can wait but i have had once instance where I JUST HAD TO read the book and it was about when i was like 15 and i started reading gossip girl (don't judge me) well... i just went inside barnes and nobles (my all time favorite book store when i want to splurge or get a book i know i want to keep) and since they have a starbucks inside i would order a frappe and just sit inside the store and read it...lol now thats what you call money savvy!! =]

or you can go inside borders which is still around in new york and have dean and deluca's (they make THEEE BESTTTT red velvet cupcake)

message 42: by Marybeth (new)

Marybeth (narutofan14) i love Barnes and nobles. I will go for other bookstores because i am so far away from that store but when i am near it i always want to go to it and look around.

message 43: by Ayesha (last edited Mar 07, 2014 12:25AM) (new)

Ayesha | 11 comments Mostly I bought books from liberty in Pakisatan...because they look so fresh and not rough like other cheaper stores where their prices are low....And they pack them in a nice bag of liberty so it makes me feel good that the best thing i want to read looks gud and and expensive..some times

message 44: by Ayesha (new)

Ayesha | 11 comments But some times if want to have many books i planned to go for cheaper prices...

nightlyreadingheather (heatherhy01) I have recently discovered our local Ollie's Bargain Outlet and they have really cheap books but you never know what you will find. Today I found City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6) by Cassandra Clare & The Retribution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #3) by Michelle Hodkin for $1.99 each! COHF was a hard cover while Mara was a paperback
