Here we see the Crimson Guard's plan of just sneaking on into the Stormwall disguised as prisoners has become just a LITTLE bit problematic......hmmmmm..."
I was half way thru Stonewielder (the first time) when it finally dawned on me that the character "Shell" was um...my name!! :P
Oh and I do like her character!!!

Funny thing is, it's the first time that I've ever come across my name in a book!!?? I guess "Shelley" isn't a very common name authors use!!?? Thank you Mr. ICE!! Heheheheheehheehehhehheheheeeee....

I like Shell and the others too. The Sea Folk were great too. I just wonder why their subterfuge is to show more wealth instead of less when they are boarded and 'inspected'.
I really like the Adjuct, aka Kyle, but I miss his viewpoint like we got in RotCG.

Actually, I get the feeling that Eruko's death haunts Kyle. Plus he's grown up some too! :)

My question is this though: (view spoiler)
I'd kind of forgotten about Kyle's journey with Travelor and Eruko. I guess I was thinking he'd been with Greymane for longer than he had. He really just joined up with him at the very end of RotCG didn't he?
I've also got another random question, what was the purpose of Kiska's venture into Shadow? It doesn't seem like she accomplished what she set out to do. I did like finding out who Warren was (great name for this particular character, the irony of that name is just astounding.)
I'm hoping we'll get more of Kiska's story in Esslemont's next book. Oh and more Kyle. I really want to know what he'll be up to once he gets home and finds his friends.
I'm diving into Dust of Dreams next and probably won't resurface until after reading The Crippled God. (Of course, I'll be on Goodreads though.) :-)

Rellish is a great character and as they say, you can't keep a good man down! :)
Amelia have you finished Stonewielder then??

Oh yeah, I didn't expect the Lady to be who she was although I should have seen that coming.

I found this very strange. It wasn't who I expected it to be, well in fact, I didn't have any idea who it could be. But when I found out, I was stunned. I have already commented on how ICE change the personality of Jhevel, but this Warren character revelation left me flat. It was so utterly out of character adn at no stage when I learnt who it was, did I say "ahhh, that explains.... or ahhhh now I see it". So I was disappointed with that revelation.
I liked Rellish, his part was very well written in this. He was very stoic and disciplined in his responses to Greymane. I was hoping that they would have it all out int he open in a bit of a shouting match or a punch to the face. But I can see why Greymane kept them all at arms lenght.
I wasn't a fan of the whole wall story, never have been throughout the whole series, but this book really did explain it so much better. But happy it is gone.

I was wondering for a while if Warren was Iskarel Pust. I didn't think there could be another crazy priest wandering around shadow. Either that or the guy who's been killing all the people who traveled through the Imperial Warren. Honestly though, I don't think we really have a whole lot about him from Erikson, only snatches here and there. We get a lot more Cotillion, so it didn't ring true or untrue to me when I found out who Warren was.
I agree about the Wall. Nasty thing there. I also was very glad to see the end of Ussu. His way of accessing the Warrens just seemed pure evil to me. He's definitely on my list of characters I despise.
I am glad about the Black Moranth. I liked them. I wish we knew more about them. Do you ever think we'll find out what they look like underneath all of their armor?

The rengade Malazans were a mess, I needed to be reminded that they were originally Malazan army. They were completely feral, but then again, I suppose they were not all from Malaz and so cant really call them all Malazans, just ex - Malazan army.
Ussu was a fascinating character wasn't he. Another brilliantly written by SE, you hated what he did, but his story was hugely interesting and I wanted to hear more of what he was involved in.
I didn't quite get the whole Corlo betrayal bit, I saw the reason for the story line, to justify why the CG just didn't kick ass and leave when they wanted to, but it did make me frown a bit.

There I agree with you too. Corlo and Bars didn't ring true to how they were portrayed by Erikson. I still can't picture Bars just giving up like that and living the the squalor and mess that he did. I don't know how he got captured in the first place, especially after they'd met the Segulah in the last book and he whipped the one in shape giving him a rank of some sort, 11th or something like that. The Toblaikai guy on the Wall was a bit of a mystery too. I wondered if this was Esslemont's way of showing a tiny bit of those people, especially with his line at the end where he says 'Remember ... the Toblakai saved you.' (Can't remember exactly what was said). Was that his way of witnessing like what Karsa does?
Wasnt there something at the end of RotCG where a boat went off course and was captured by traders for the Wall?
Maybe I am making things up in my head again though.....

(Great new Mod title, btw)
thanks-since shelley is the high fist, I had to do something!
I liked that Black Queen who rode with Ivanr too...she seemed quite honorable...

I really like how Malazan sort of showcases both the neccesity and futility of war...
how torturous it was for the leaders here to have to bring the violence, but the deep knowledge that if they didn't, things were going to get even worse...
no good avenues at all

I am really liking this characters of Shell-although I am assuming they will manage to break Bars out, I am not so sure who all will make it....
