A. (almas) | 21 comments Have you ever felt a bit disappointed after watching a movie and thought that the trailer was way better than the movie?
It happens to me all the time

Example:
Red Riding Hood (2011)
Sweeney Todd (2007)

message 2: by Sashana (new)

Sashana It happens to me 99% of the time. There are too many examples really.

Phillip | 10980 comments it's usually the opposite for me - trailers make movies look ridiculous and i want to avoid them, but then i see them and they are much better than i imagined.

most of the time i close my eyes when the trailers come on - unless it's a movie i'm really excited about. half the time the trailer gives away way too much info .. and i prefer to know as little as possible about a film before i see it. i want it to take me by surprise.

Julie (brontesister) | 923 comments I'm of two minds about this (I'm referring to trailers on dvds). I discover films I wouldn't have known about and then check to see if my library has them (this is usually for foreign films). I've seen some great films this way.

On the other hand, it's true that sometimes the trailer gives away most of the film. I really don't like that. It should give you a taste of what the film is about and that's it.

Pickle | 132 comments i must be one of the few people who thought Gladiator with Russell Crowe was crap. The trailer was pretty good though.

The one that wins it for me was Super-8. The trailer had me hooked but that turned into a pile of crap once i watched that sham of a movie.

message 10: by Sooz (new)

Sooz i'm with Julie on this one .... trailers have introduced me to movies i might not have seen otherwise, so i like them for that ... but there is a growing trend to give away too much. the trailor should be a tease not a summary of the entire story.

Phillip | 10980 comments THE SHINING .... best trailer ever.

Yeah, that's kind of a classic. And the one for the original ALIEN, too.

I remember seeing a trailer for BUGSY about a year before the movie came out, and it made the film look like a screwball gangster comedy rather than the solemn gangster movie that was finally released.

Phillip | 10980 comments mmmmn. original alien trailer - exactly.
less is more, people!

There's a great new Geico ad that riffs on the opening scene, though. Hilarious.

Robert Beveridge (xterminal) The one that immediately comes to mind every time I think about the trailer being better than the movie is Malick's woeful adaptation of The Thin Red Line.
