Trike This year I'm aiming to read 52 books with the twist that my goal includes two titles from each letter of the alphabet. So two books that start with the letter A, two that start with B, etc. The minor determiners The, A and An don't count.

When looking at my to-read pile, I noticed a funny coincidence with these three books: Rule 34, Reality 36: A Richards & Klein Novel and Directive 51. While at the library, I happened across the novel Child 44. So that went on the list, yeah it did.

I don't know what's going on with these titles, but now I want to do an additional sub-challenge of reading books (preferably SF/F) whose titles follow that same format of "Title" + "Two Digit Number." Does anyone know of any others?

Barring that, I'll also go with Title+Number as a runner-up. (I've already read Fahrenheit 451.)

Paul Perry (pezski) | 292 comments Well spotted, it's obviously a message about the giant reptile conspiracy! Or maybe they're an oblique reference to Catch-22.

The only one on your list I've read is Child 44, which is superb.

(edit: typing Catch 22 defaulted to the 'Monarch Notes'.... sheesh.)

Candiss (tantara) This has the right "feel" to the title, but the number is spelled out and isn't two digits. Some editions, however, use a numeral: Slaughterhouse-Five

This one is not SF, but if you're looking for either poetry or something originally in French (plus it has an awesome title) - Arcanum 17

Riona (rionafaith) | 83 comments I haven't read it, but have heard good things about Babel-17.

I can not believe I forgot that one. It's one of my favorite books! *sigh*

Trike Thanks for the recs, everyone. Keep 'em coming!

I don't think I've ever read Catch-22. I've seen the movie a number of times, but never read the book as far as I can recall.

I own Manifestoes of Surrealism and have read What is Surrealism? (went through a huge surrealism/Dada phase in film school), so I'll add Arcanum 17 to the stack. Thanks for the heads-up. :)

I tried Delaney's Nova once and I'm pretty sure that's what a peyote-mixed-with-mescaline high feels like. I'll definitely put Babel-17 on the list, though.

Julia | 957 comments The 34th Rule is a fun Star Trek book

Babel-17 is one of Delaney's most readable books, IMO.

Little Brother doesn't have a number in the title, but a big "x" on the cover... And it's really good.
