AnaΣtaΣia | 1584 comments It was a good book(I was very curious and read it in January), however, I'll put up my review later because it will contain spoilers and I don't want to ruin it for everybody in here.

Gorfo Haha I am also brimming with excitement! I could not wait to rd it and neglected quite a lot of work in order to read it!

AnaΣtaΣia | 1584 comments Well, books and films have that effect on me all the time!
I read that you are working on ''Hairspray''! Good luck with that one, it needs a lot of work, but I'm sure you'll all do very well!

Gorfo Haha yes thank you! Hairspray is fantastic but the harmonies are really hard to perfect! Not to mention that 60's choreography! I feel like this book was missing a musical, but that may just be because the last John Green book I read was Will Grayson, Will Grayson and a central thing in that book is Tiny's musical ;P

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments Oh my god *grin* I love this book so far. I'm about 40% done with the copy I got from the library. So far I am absolutely in love with Gus XD

Gus is possibly the most dashing fictional character ever invented and he's not perfect so that makes him all the more loveable and realistic!

I completely agree! I will probably finish this today on break and on my way home from work <3

Haha! I see that you finished! Did you love it?

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments I loved it. I cried. I wanted to break some trophies in the end. :D

Gorfo I've never broken a trophy, but I'm sure if it was for something you didn't care about but had been forced to do for many years...it would be the best feeling in the world! :)

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments More than likely! But, I really, really did like this book.

Gorfo I dunno, I feel like this book has the potential to maybe one day become a classic. At least I'm certainly hopeful that it will become one :P

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments I am inclined to agree with you. It definitely has classic potential.

I just started this yesterday. I really really love it so far!

Pragya (reviewingshelf) I finished it and did love it.

Here's my review - http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

Amber I read this just after it came out and I absolutely loved it! It was funny and heartbreaking all at the same time. Definitely one of my favorites!

I finished it! Here is my review: Amazing Amazing Amazing! Right when I finished the book my first thought was Wow what happens next and there should be a sequel, but then I thought about it some more and said to myself that it doesn't need a sequel because a sequel will ruin the goodness of the book. Normally if I read a young adult book there is always something that pisses me off, but this book did not. I have nothing bad to say about it. It was good from start to finish. I am now off to read his other books. Paper Towns and Looking for Alaska have been on my to-read list for way too long.

You must read 'Looking for Alaska". I adored that book.

Gorfo Gabrielle wrote: "I finished it! Here is my review: Amazing Amazing Amazing! Right when I finished the book my first thought was Wow what happens next and there should be a sequel, but then I thought about it some m..."

Most people think that Looking for Alaska is his best book and don't get me wrong it's EXCELLENT but I don't reccomend reading Looking for Alaska and TFIOS back to back! Rd my favorite instead: Paper Towns!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh okay thanks I wasn't planning on reading it right this second. I still have other books that I am reading, but I will try to get them as soon as possible.

Caedy Eries (karida) | 106 comments I need to read more of his books. This is the first of his that I have read. I will have to see if I can get a copy of Looking for Alaska and Paper Towns eventually. I need to plow through the library books I have currently, and get those done before I get any more, or read books that I already own XD

AnaΣtaΣia | 1584 comments Gabrielle wrote: "I finished it! Here is my review: Amazing Amazing Amazing! Right when I finished the book my first thought was Wow what happens next and there should be a sequel, but then I thought about it some m..."

I think that ending it this way and not having a sequel was his point! Exactly as Van Houten did in "An Imperial Affliction—” Somethings just end like that and wondering what will happen next, ends in a stalemate..

Gorfo Anastasia wrote: "Gabrielle wrote: "I finished it! Here is my review: Amazing Amazing Amazing! Right when I finished the book my first thought was Wow what happens next and there should be a sequel, but then I thoug..."

Even though there was a period at the end of the novel it did feel very incomplete. So incomplete that I felt (like in "An Imperial Affliction") that he'd ended it in the middle of a sentence!

Yep I was thinking that too, but I got over it. There are so many things that I love about this book

Gorfo Gabrielle wrote: "Yep I was thinking that too, but I got over it. There are so many things that I love about this book"

Same here! Actually that's one of the things I loved about this book though, because the story within the story ended up kinda becoming the story...does that even make any sense? It does in my head :P

LOL it does make sense, because I was thinking the same thing. I still have to write my review of this book, and a couple of others that I have pending. Bleh, so much to do, so little time to do it.

Gorfo I know how that feels! I still haven't written a review for this because there's just too much to say and I just can't fathom how to say it!

Yeah it does make sense. I already wrote on a review, but I might rewrite it because there is so much more to say that what I wrote.

Sarah (sarahandherbookshelves) This was my favorite John green book, and I did enjoy it. I just didn't find my self becoming very emotional over it like I thought I would be. That said I gave it a 4!

I know that feeling, seriously. I mean, I have started to write the review for this book at least twice in the last three days and had to scrap it because I'm like..."No, this just doesn't work..." *DELETE*

Exactly! Well put Samantha! :) I always love watching how the story within the story coincides with the actual story!

I agree. That's one of the reasons why I love this book

Phylwil I am entranced by the narrator of this book, because she is so thoughtful, kind and intelligent. In the genre of young adult books about falling in love, the young woman so often seems vacuous. I would like to think if I am ever called on to deliver a eulogy, that I will be as thoughtful as she was in incorporating the Encouragements of Augustus' parents.

As I read the book, some of the comments made about cancer made me think: "The author must surely have read The Emperor of All Maladies, by Mukherjee." Sure enough, that book is listed in the acknowledgements.

Nicole (nmm267) | 54 comments I hope no one hates me for what I'm about to say, but I didn't love the book. I finished it about 20 minutes ago and need time to ruminate on it, but I thought it was just okay. I liked the characters and cared about what happened to them (I even liked Van Houten), but there was something that just turned me off. I can't put my finger on it.

Maybe it was that I found it very predictable; just a few chapters in and I had pegged that Hazel would live til the end and Gus would die. :o( I wanted to like it more.

Nicole (nmm267) | 54 comments Off topic, I know, but does anyone know what the March book is going to be? I like to look into it ahead of time - get myself excited!

I definitely see where you're coming from! I too had an inkling of the outcome of the book, however, I decided to just enjoy the journey rather than worrying about the ending :). The truth is that when I had to rate this book I wasn't sure if I wanted to give it a 5, 4, or 3...my feeling on this one are so mixed!

(I just posted the March rd: The Hunger Games! Because I'm a terrible fan and I want everyone to love it! though if they don't that's fine :P)

Nicole (nmm267) | 54 comments I agree, Gorfo - my feelings were mixed, too. I often change my book ratings as time goes on, but for now I'm sticking with a 3. We'll see, though!

I'm excited about The Hunger Games! I've read the trilogy, but won't mind reading the first one again!

Gorfo Completely understood! My ratings on books are never concrete! They are constantly changing ;P! I am so psyched to re-rd the 1st one!

I just finished re-reading TFIOS. It is still amazing! One thing I realized that I didn't realized the first time is that the very last words are Hazel's. I thought that it was still part of Gus's letter. It makes so much sense now.

Gorfo Interesting insight, I never really thought sbout whose words they were at all

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh really? I guess it's just me =)

Gorfo Gabrielle wrote: "Oh really? I guess it's just me =)"

No no! I probably was just crying so hard by the end that I didn't really pay attention to what I was rding as much!

Sandee is Reading (sandeeisreading) I HATE JOHN GREEN!
I am only halfway through this book and its already making me cry.
Take note I am not that much a crybaby but this book really pulled my heartstrings.
Is just so wonderfully written.
I could feel Hazel's pain as if it were my own.

Its just so wondeful. *sniff*

I just wanted to hate him for making me cry so much.

Ok good! I was a little worried that I'd made you hate one of my favorite authors! Whew...crisis averted!

Veronica (verobot) | 5 comments **SPOILERS**

I just finished it. It was very sad and touching, it reminded me of a movie I watched recently called Griffin and Phoenix. It was so similar so I don't know if that distracted me from the originality, but it was good. The part that REALLY got to me more than anything was when Van Houten was telling her about his daughter, and how he told her he would see her SOON and all that, yeah that he had to be the one to explain to her she would die. As a mom this whole book is a huge bowl of heartbreak soup.
