My hub and I saw Freedom Writers at our daughter's suggestion. She saw it in her H.S. english class. He didn't really want to see the movie, but he wound up liking it so much, he read the book:
The Freedom Writers Diary: How a Teacher and 150 Teens Used Writing to Change Themselves and the World Around Them
He said it's terrific, because the diaries of the kids in her classroom are included, and were really moving. So I'd like to read that one and this also by their teacher:
Teach with Your Heart: Lessons I Learned from the Freedom Writers
If anyone is looking for inspiration - SEE THIS MOVIE over the holiday weekend! And take a look at the books.
I would like to one day work with a teen or group of teens, and inspire them in a similar way. This teacher is awesome.
I can also highly recommend the movie the Ron Clark Story. It stars Matthew Perry of Friends, and really showcased his acting talent, which was clearly underutilized in Friends. He was tremendous in this movie.

Three Cups of Tea
Is a book I really think every politician, teacher and every woman, heck everyone should read. I notice a lot of you have it on your TBR pile. It was SO incredibly inspiring. I love the story. I gave it 4 stars because I didn't care for the style of writing. I think it could have been done better in that sense but it is so inspiring as to what one person can do in the world. I just read they are coming out with a YA version of this book and a Childs version. His story is amazing!
I am Potential
This is in my TBR pile. Patrick Henry Hughes was born with the same eye (or lack of eye) condition that my daughter was born with. Consequently they are both blind, Patrick also has other physical issues that Emma doesn't have. His parents are part of our online support network and I have been lucky to follow their story for the last few years. Some of you might remember he was on Extreme Home Makeover. They are an incredible family and I am eager to read their book.
